      @CPandABfangirl that's what I thought, being clean should help, you HAVE to make the extra step if you want to get rid of it. Get a loofa or however you spell it, get some natural/organic type soap, and scrub your back. Keep some stubble on your face (I did this) and acne tends to go away after awhile. I'm almost 21 and still get acne, had it for at least 7 years. Just a part of our bodies, it sucks.

    My face was clear but i had bacne. My dermatologist in the Philippines asked me to take Nizoral capsules & to use the Nizoral shampoo as a body wash. She said my acne was most likely fungal. It helped my bacne. Another thing that helped a lot was having laser hair removal of my back & regular TCA peels. I now have very clear, smooth back.

      @@tatertots2395 I think the regular lasering helped with the scarring, I'm not sure because I'm no expert but I think that the lasers helped slowly get rid of the skin and made the skin repair itself slowly reducing the scarring. I think its similar to micro needling in a sense it creates little burns instead of punctures to cause the skin to heal over itself. Just my theory, again I'm not expert and my phrasing isn't the best.

    I had "bacne" a few years ago which was caused by my "Dove" hair conditioner. I was putting tretinoin, benzoyl peroxide ointment on it and nothing worked. Then I had a eureka moment and realized what was causing it. Once I stopped using this particular conditioner my acne went away within a couple of weeks. It has never happened with any other conditioner, even if it's more emollient, which I find very strange. Thanks for another awesome video!!

    I will suggest the walgreens 10% benzoyl peroxide bar. It's easy to use in the shower and spreads easier than the panoxyl which is really creamy and hard to use. And as tough and embarassing as it may be I have learned that wearing tops and shirts that expose my back, shoulders and upper chest help a lot to make my acne go away because my skin is able to breathe instead of having all my natural oils and sweat trapped by clothes that cover.

    I just clicked on this so I don't know if she'll mention it but a HUGE thing that will help with bacne is rinsing your conditioner out *before* you wash your body or washing your body again after conditioning (if you washed while letting it sink in). Residue from the conditioner will stay on your back otherwise and, unless you have the best genetic composition on this earth, WILL clog some pores/result in acne. My boyfriend has painful, persistent bacne that could probably benefit from seeing a dermatologist, but when I told him to wash after conditioner, there was a significant, notable reduction in the pain, frequency, and amount of acne on his back. If yours won't go away no matter what and you haven't tried this, it may offer some relief.

    Eh.. Back when I was a truck driver, I really neglected my self care. I had chronic back acne, deep painful ones as well as little pimples. I say chronic because I've had this problem ever since I turned 18 and got much worse when I became a truck driver. But I finally found something that works for me. It's cheap, natural, but a little controversial, although I don't think it should be. I've been experimenting with it for a couple weeks now and I'm surprised with the results 😃
    Borax powder! I use the 20 Mule brand from Walmart. Everyday in the shower, after my normal routine, I get a little borax powder on my fingers and gently exfoliate all over my back. My upper back was the worst so most of my focus was there. It's really working tho! The borax powder crystals are pretty thick so you don't need to press hard. You'll feel the gentle scrub. It leaves your skin feeling smooth and relaxed. Also, after my shower and after drying, I get a little more borax powder and apply it like baby powder over my back. It can be a little drying so I apply a bit of vaseline. You can probably use any lotion but from my experience, i've learned that some lotions actually make me break out, so I stick to vaseline instead.

    Dear Dr Dray. Could you please show us how to read the ingredients of skin care products (body lotions, sunscreens, and even shampoo and hair conditioner) to identify those that are or are not comedogenic? I've found that using certain hair conditioners cause me more pimples on my back; however, I do not know how to identify products that are non-comedogenic unless it is explictly indicated in the label of the product (which is VERY rare).

      Awww sis I feel you I’m 18 and I’ve been struggling with the same thing for a year now. I know it’s an embarrassing thing to talk about, but since you are young if you are able to talk to your parents and see if they will book you a GP appointment. They will definitely be able to help, they will try many things until you see some progress. With a matter of time, you will hopefully see a difference with the treatments they provide for you. Sometimes this is due to puberty because remember you are still young and your growing, hormones and all. It may go away by itself and I know it’s tempting but do not touch it please it can lead to scars. I hope all the best for you and don’t worry we are not alone, THIS IS NORMAL ❤️❤️

      Stop exfoliating. Physical exfoliation irritates your skin making acne worse. Try chemical exfoliation instead as it will help get rid of acne and lighten acne scars. Also, try to shower with hot water at first and then before you leave the shower, rinse your whole body with cold water for a minute. And check out the brand called the ordinary. Also try putting tretinoin on your skin. It reduced my acne and lightens scars but you have to be patient while using it. I suffer from the same problems as you so I understand how it feels. We’ll get through it though so keep fighting and don’t give up

    Hi Dr. Dray. As an epidemiologist and skincare junkie, I have to say I much appreciate your evidence based approach to skin care. I have a question about waiting times when putting on forms of Vitamin A. My tretinoin requires me to put it on a freshly cleansed face and wait until it is completely dry before putting it on (the instructions say 20 min). I've also seen other people (not medical scientists) say they wait at least a half hour after adding actives (like Vitamin A, AHAs, BHAs, etc.) before layering on moisturizers or other hydrators. To you knowledge is there any evidence on the efficacy of waiting times, before and after actives? I notice you also put Adapalene on after a hydrator, is it not necessary to put it on dry, clean skin like Tretinoin? Your advice is greatly appreciated. Have a nice Friday :)

    • @DrDrayzday
      @DrDrayzday  7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Thanks! I would layer nothing on top of tretinoin. All the other stuff you mention, aside from moisturizer, is just filler that has the potential to impact the efficacy of the tretinoin. I put moisturizer on to a wet face after getting out of the shower at night and/or washing off makeup/sunscreen. I allow the moisturizer to dry so the skin is not wet, then apply my topical retinoid.

      ROXANNE BEAUCLAIR - hi. I use tretinoin daily at night. I use Neutrogena hydroboost gel creme on damp skin, wait for it to dry a little and then use tretinoin.

      ROXANNE BEAUCLAIR I've been putting on moisturizer first, on wet skin, then once it dries applying tretinoin. I have found this method to be more effective than applying it on dry skin. It also eliminated most of my flaking. I've also had better results since I've quit using serums and AHA's and BHA's. I changed things up since watching Dr Dray and it's been really effective.

    Hi Dr. Dray! I keep reading that benzoyl peroxide (as well as SA) should not be combined with retinoids (like adapalene) because they will deactivate one another? "BPO and retinoids should not be used together because they will deactivate each other and make the retinoid ineffective." - Dr. Elizabeth Houshmand
    Can you confirm that thoroughly rinsing off the BPO cleanser prior to applying the adapalene 0.1% will prevent the 2 from counteracting each other? TIA! Just want to make sure I don't waste my products when I get them and get the full effect of both ingredients :)

    Hi I've been using 10% benzoyl peroxide on my back every day, but each time I do (as well as throughout the night/day) I get super itchy all over my back, even though I moisturize. Does this mean I need to use a lower percent? Or is this a good thing? I inevitably scratch a little because it's unbearable, and I worry that's undoing the benefits of the benzoyl peroxide.
