As someone who loves makeup and has a lot of fun with it, I think the TH-cam makeup rise along with all the skin treatment commercials that were so popular in the 90s and early 2000s, really distorted acne as a medical condition. I don't think people see skin care as medical and that leads people to listen to beauty experts for medical and science information. Also, it can feel daunting to get information from your doctors. There isn't much room for that in the current medical system and it can be so challenging and costly to see a dermatologist.

Great and informative vid, many thanks! I started using acids a few years ago in my.late 30's. I began gently introducing P50W lotion and saw a huge difference and improvement. Stopped that. Now I use a Salicylic lotion in the AM, and a glycolic serum (using Drunk Eleohant's Framboos right now) a few times a week in the PM. My skin has become used to acids and tolerates them extremely well. I don't use them in summertime when I'm working abroad in Mediterranean heat! So now I will get BHA face washes for those times, as per your advice here in this video! Brilliant! Thanks so much!

I am so happy that I have found your channel! I was the person that was applying TONS of products to my skin trying to combat all my issues. I was also that person that used a mechanical exfoliant every single day for a long time. I have reduced the amount of product I put on my face and I don't use a mechanical exfoliant any more and my skin has never looked better. I have extremely oily skin on my forehead and nose and dry skin around my mouth and chin and I have suffered from a considerable amount of acne since I was 12. So now I massage argan oil on my face and remove with a warm, wet cloth to remove my makeup at night. Every morning and every night (after removing my makeup at night) I wipe my face with a pad using Dickinson's witch hazel. Then I use a salicylic acid wash (Skinceuticals LHA Cleansing Ge)l in the morning and a benzoyl peroxide acne wash (Neutrogena Clear Pore Cleanser/Mask) at night followed by a moisturizer (Skinceuticals Daily Moisture) every day and night and differin at night, then finally a bit of organ oil left on my face. I have been following this skincare regime for several months now and my skin has never looked better! A lot of that is thanks to you!!

Also, based on your Dollar Tree video, you're right, the orange salicylic acid cleanser is a great dupe! 👍

I have had great results with a CVS product from their Skin + Pharmacy line. It is the Glycolic Cream Cleanser in the Anti-Aging line. I believe it received the Dr Dray approval during one of your "rip 'em a new one" tours of CVS.:) It is gentle with hyaluronic acid and has licorice root. The foam/cream formula allows it to stay put for a few minutes without running into your eye and mouth areas. Your videos truly clarify a lot of questions that people have about skin care. Thanks as always.

I just started a higher prescription for tretenoin and am having some light peeling. I was searching for retin a/peeling videos. The first one I viewed was a gal recommending a glycolic acid toner followed by an aha to deal with the peeling. I turned it off and came “running to mama” by searching your videos. 😆. I’m glad you confirmed my suspicions. So I was using the Neutrogena blackhead scrub with 2%SA and I left it on my skin longer than usual because I rationalized that the longer it’s on, the more effective. To hydrate, I put on the neutrogena hydro boost gel cream for extra dry skin (first time using- no stinging), then I put on my St Ives renewing collagen and elastin moisturizer I’ve been using for years and BUUURRRRNNNNN. I was shocked. It completely stung my face and I freaked out. I washed my face a couple of hours later. I thought it was the hydro boost but when I put on the st Ives it still stung a bit. Should I discontinue the St Ives? Definitely not going to let the SA wash sit on my wash again!

Thank you so much! There are so many mixed messages about exfoliation out there. I used to be an over exfoliator - Buff puffs, scrubs, brushes, chemicals, etc. For decades. I convinced myself I wasn't clean if I didn't exfoliate my face, my makeup didn't go on as smoothly, etc. I finally kicked the habit just recently when I realized I just don't need it.

I'm just glad, I finally went 'prescription strength'. Physical exfoliants, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide...nothing ever really worked for me. I would scrub my face with everything I could get my hands on, put on benzoyl peroxide afterwards and wash it off with acne wash - nothing. No irritation, but no positive effect either.
Tretinoin is the first thing where I can actually feel that it's doing something. And even with that I don't seem to be getting any of the dreaded side effects.

Since discovering your channel (and a few zero waste Instagrammers), I've switched to using water and a washcloth, or an oil and a washcloth, to cleanse my face after work. Even with the multiple layers of SPF, warm water, a soft cloth, and patience seem to be removing the SPF just fine! If I've opted for a thicker sunscreen, I will oil cleanse, but I've come a long way from my days of rotating 3-4 cleansers.

I use adapelene, and find I still need a bit more exfoliation, and a bit more acne prevention. I find many of the face wash AHAs, and washcloths, to be more irritating/drying than my favorite leave on products. I alternate in the morning between two: the Paula's Choice 2% Salicylic Acid Liquid, which I believe is witch hazel based and quite gentle to me, and the Paula's Choice RESIST Daily Smoothing Treatment with 5% AHA for dry skin, which is actually quite creamy and hydrating to my skin. The BHA liquid if I have extra pimples, the AHA liquid if I need some exfoliation, and neither if I'm feeling too dry. Yes they are more expensive, but you can often get them on sale, and I use so little that 1 bottle will last me about a year. Also Paula's Choice are always fragrance free and essential oil free, and they've seemed to crack the nut of non-irritating products for me, and I always feel my skin looks so good when I use them. So for me it's worth it!

The most effective has been glycolic acid scrub with the spin brush, followed by glycolic acid toner and then retin a on affected areas. And h&b skin, hair and nails formula. As always love your videos. I've been following your instructions and sunscreen products and moisturizers that you've kindly advised me to use and I've never had my skin looking as good and healthy so I'm great fully thankful for that. I am interested and excited to check out some of the products you've listed on this video. Thanks again Dr. dray

Dr. Dray, What kind of exfoliation do you use while using Tretinoin? Please do your skincare routine with tretinoin and treating peeling skin.
