Whats weird about the whole retcon for deadshot is that, it implied that the "original" deadshot retired after his zoe born. Its like telling us before batman year one, deadshot already made some contract kills, had several clients that hired him before. But somehow, when blackmask (joker) hired him to kill batman in origins, he was listed as caucasian. To make the inconsistency even worse is that in origins, it was stated in his profile that deadshot was former military, how come amanda waller didnt know the person she recruited to the suicide squad is a fake one . Same goes to hugo strange, what, the smartest guy who discovered the identity of batman couldnt figure out there was 2 floyd lawton ? In my opinion, this and Gotham Knights should have been reversed studio-wise. WB should have made SS and been allowed to do whatever however (since it wouldn't be canon to the Arkhamverse) while Rocksteady made Gotham Knights and tackled the Court storyline with Jason, Dick, Tim, and Barbara post-Arkham Knight.

The line where Harley says "Causing long term mental and emotional damage to everyone you knew" makes no damn sense. The Batfamily respected him. The GCPD and Gordon respected him. Even supervillains such as Mr Freeze, Ras Al Ghul and Poison Ivy (who's now randomly Harely's love interest) grew to respect him. Catwoman and Talia loved him. Jason forgave him, and Harely had a bigger hand to play in *his* mental and emotional damage than Batman ever did. Everyone else who knew Batman was a psychopath. And Harely's mental and emotional damage was caused by Joker.

As someone who loves anti-hero Harley, there’s no doubt that Arkham Harley was not meant to be a good guy in any way, shape or form. She continued being a villain not because of her grief, but because that’s who her character was. Remember in Origins, even before she was “hypnotized” by Joker, she worked with the Falcone family (known criminals) and had ties to the League of Assassins. She was written to be a pure villain who sold her humanity for power since the beginning. Retconning it just to make her more like the more popular version of the character cheapens the entire universe and what it meant in terms of DC lore. Or maybe I’m just babbling who knows

I love Harley in all her forms, but DC is hellbent on making her a hero in every instance possibe. Making her an anti-hero in the main universe made sense because it was gradual. The Rocksteady that made the Arkham games only exists by name, but everything and everyone else that made this so good studio is gone. The people who made this abomination have no respect for DC or the Arkham games in general and the writing by Sweet Baby Inc. shows that. One of the few redeemable things about Suicide Squad is the Voice Acting, rarely the lines themselves (again, the writing is obnoxious) but in how they are delivered is passable. The Animations is also OK but still a fall from grace compared to the Arkham games over 9 years ago. Granted, this game has a bigger open world but there are many things that should've looked better, considering how it took to make it

King Shark died in Assault on Arkham and he was designed differently i guess the devs forgot about that. Also green Lanterns existence in the game creates plot holes, green lantern rings do not allow deadly force willy nilly and if John stewarts will has been broken by mind control he shouldn't be able to use his ring.
If it makes you guys feel better, this game can't be in the arkham verse. Because king shark is canonically dead between the events of origins and asylum.
In regards to Poison Ivy - I heard somewhere a theory that the reason they turned her into a child was because they were desperately trying to desexualize her. In Arkham Knight, Ivy was smoking hot and sensual at that. Buuuut, mah wahmen objectification, so what's a surefire way people do not objectify a woman? Make her a child. That way, if someone does try to sexualize her, it says more about them than anything... ...Which makes it even more baffling that they're pushing for the Harley and Ivy relationship in this game, with Harley saying some stuff that is more than eyebrow raising. Had they kept it like it was in Arkham trilogy and make her NOT have romantic involvement with Ivy, they'd avoid all this awkward stuff. It's like in their pursuit of their quotas, they completely disregarded the implication. Either that, or other alternative, which is... Far worse.

I liked Arkham's Harley Quinn because it was "revolutionary" at the time, it dared to keep Harley as the character she had always been while the new comics pushed all that nonsense. I think it would be a perfect storyline, the black dead shot is hired to kill Arkham deadshot and succeeds, he then realizes what he’s done making Zoe an orphan so he adopts her which would keep the connection to him and Zoe and allow him to be deadshot or hell, if you don’t want og deadshot killed by him just say it was bloodsport who’s allies with deadshot but deadshot dies from brainiacs invasion so bloodsport becomes the new deadshot instead of using multiverse BS. This game never needed to be in te multiverse, the easily could have just not let us beat brainiac yet instead of kill him and made it more clear justice league are clones and the new characters we fight are random justice league characters like Aquaman with the final boss being brainiac

They are from different Earths where genetics work differently. I'm guessing the gene that influences skin color on one Earth didn't influence skin color on the other Earth? Something to point out is the official Batman Arkham TH-cam channel never made any videos about Suicide Squad but is clearly still active with videos for the Arkham Trilogy on Switch.
This version of Harley change would of made sense if in the years following Arkham Knight she actually tried to change and redeem herself (especially in the eyes of Batman) like the Harley in the injustice universe. But no she still more or less continue to be a criminal after Knight and up to before this game (considering how Batman talks to her). And now they want to retcon that she was a different Harley then what all the Arkham related media depicted her as. SMH

I’m writing this before watching the vid. It can’t be canon, not because of how horrible it is because everyone knows that, it’s because it contradicts each Arkham character too much for it to be ignored. I cannot see Arkham Batman acting the way they made him out to be when he ISNT mind controlled, plus even Harley doesn’t act like her Arkham verse self. I’m not even inherently against Harley having a redemption arc even in a universe like this. But they went about it in the worst way possible. If they want us to see this version of Harley as redeemable, they have to show that she feels remorse for her actions. They should’ve had her begin still smitten with the Joker, But perhaps as the events of the game play out, she comes to realize that he was a terrible person (there’s a number of ways you could do this but fear toxin hallucinations would probably be the easiest solution). She feels ashamed that she worshiped this man for so long and the realization of the atrocity she committed in his name finally kick in. Show her breakdown and think that she doesn’t deserve to go on. Then you could have the squad, who at that point have come to kind of like each other, gives her some tough love, and explains that feeling bad about herself isn’t going to get them out of the situation, but if she really does feel guilty for what she did, she can help them, save the world. Yeah it’s a bit generic, but if you have to redeem Harley in this universe, that’s probably the best way to go. You have to show that she feels bad about what she did rather than just saying “it was a phase.”

The injustice comics are the same way with Harley. They made her go the anti hero route and work actively with Batman FOR YEARS despite the fact that in addition to years of crime she actively participated in the joker NUKING 8 MILLION PEOPLE. But yeah sure it makes sense that she's an anti hero Batman would work with and not lock up, and all of the other heroes working with Batman were just okay with it too. "But he cant turn her in superman will kill her" yeah that's dumb because Batman could have imprisoned her himself just like he did with multiple regime prisoners. It'd have honestly been impressive if the Arkham Knight made his presence known in Gotham by executing criminals and you open the game following clues as Batman only to find Harley strung up with a message that says whose laughing now. The amount of shock that'd have put in the players would be talked about for ages. Harley is seldom all that tragic. It’s funny how the audio from Arkham Asylum doesn’t fit with Origins. In Origins it blatantly shows you that she is just a rube who instantly falls for Joker with no real push to manipulate her. Joker and Harleen have one conversation with Joker doing the “one bad day schtick” and says something along the lines of “Ya ever just connect with someone” Joker referring to him and Batman, but Harleen instantly thinks he is referring to her and boom she is infatuated. Really, she is not that much more different than her own show counterpart who is really demented. As a child she loved Frankie Muniz and he was her first crush at a young age and she is unhealthily obsessive over him to which he unrequited, going as far as to have his parents file a restraining order over young Harleen's stalking. I think she wanted to fake a pregnancy to catch him too, it’s a season 1 episode so it’s hard to remember. Most tend to say she is tragic because Joker’s abuse but she slept her way through school and then planned to exploit folks at Arkham to make herself famous. Comics: Committed mass murder by giving Gameboys to kids and detonating them across the city murdering thousands of children. Harley is a garbage person. Yet it seems like audiences gaslight themselves into believing she is a tragedy.

She was alongside the joker when they nuked all of metropolis while killing Lois in the process . My issue is that Killer Croc was monsterous and scary to deal with like he was more croc than human yet King Shark dwarfs him and is more human than shark
Even without the forced continuity, the story would still have had issues with bad tone shifts, excessive use of plot armor, flimsy explanations why why things that shouldn't seem to work would work, and almost every opportunity for character growth squandered. But at least we could take continuity and "sudden changes in character" off the table, which is non-negligible.
Downplaying everything Arkham Harley did in the past for her redemption arc while simultaneously making it seem like the guy who fought all his rogues to save the city in one night on at least 3 separate occasions was the one with toxic traits all along is Wild. Could you imagine they spent all this time trying to redeem Arkham Harley of all her crimes, and then she winds back in prison? Not for all the murders, but for statutory.
Blackshot would have worked just by saying he's another guy, one who took the gear and name after the other one found his happy ending and retired or got killed by another villain in the 5 years.
this seems to be the problem of they want to force connection with Arkham series, all while trying to make Harley more of her modern comic, the "hate Joker and in love with Ivy" type with completely conflict with Arkham Harley

DC trying to “redeem” Harley in any way is disturbing. Arkham and Injustice are the most egregious. Arkham has already been stated but I find it funny in Injustice that all the heroes have a hard time forgiving Flash and Green Lantern, but everyone seems cool with Harley. Can’t we have a villain who’s also a bisexual? Cause she’s done too much murder and torture for “redemption”.
If this was a Elseworlds Game I’d be Fine with this Game but making it connected to the Arkhamverse makes Zero Sense, If Rocksteady wanted a Will Smith Deadshot they could’ve done Bloodsport and have Deadshot as DLC and as for Harley it’s even Out of Character when I’m getting tired of the Overly Focused Push for Harley Quinn and not to mention that the Arkham’s Version of the Character is the Most Monstrous and Darkest of any Harley Variant, don’t get me started on how that game removes he Feminine Charm with Terrible Skins, this Game is a Curse and Gotham Knights is a Much Better Game that’s this Abomination.

Harley & Ivy were friends in animated series, but it's not an Arkham canon. Also Harley in animated series was redeemable and sympathetic because there weren't anything heinous committed since cartoon was kids friendly.
What annoys me most is they're making fun of Arkham Asylum Harley where she was played by Arleen Sorkin, not Tara Strong. So using Tara Strong to bring down Arleen Sorkin is just really mean spirited toward the woman who brought the character to life.
To this day im still wiling to put money on the idea that Gotham Knights was suppoused to be the Arkhamverse game and sequel to arkham knight.A LOT about it just fits with how the characters and story plays out. In particalr the Harley there actually feels like a natural progression of Arkham harley's character becoming a fully sadistic and cruel villain in her own right. The joker is mentioned but never shown in the game for like....NO reason. Batman is meant to be bead and yet he's not on a rampage? Harley fro some reason in that game and joker split up. that's never really explained. Clayface acts like a crazier version of his Arkham City self. the list goes on. They probibly planned to make it the arkhamverse game and suicide squad was poribbly oriignally supoused to be based on the MOVIES version of the characters. But due to how they saw Avengers crash and burn. They tried to salvage gotham knights as best they could by ripping out all the live service stuff. But they KNEW it was bad. So they remvoed all teh arkham verse refrences possible and changed things in the delay. And gave it over to suicide squad. WHich if you really think about it. is trying WAY too hard to tell you it's Arkhamverse. LIke all the refrences and explinations given for deadshot alone feel really forced and kinda stupid and shoehorned in. This was probibly meant to be it's own universe. But they slapped the Arkhamverse seting onto it to try to make it sell better.

The dumbest part about Suicide Squad kill the Justice League is we all know why Harley looks the way she does. It's not even a graphics thing. She didn't look like that in Arkham Knight. Her face model is clearly inspired by Margot Robbie. This was more of a movie tie in than an Arkham spin off. Because Will Smith clearly inspired the Deadshot of this game.
I get the impression that they tried to use the connection to the Arkham games as a way to boost the marketing since many people have fond memories of those games but it backfired terribly when people realized how disconnected the game actually was from those games so they probably would have been better off to have it be its own thing. Making it live service though was probably the biggest mistake and that's likely because of Warner Bros. They should have let Rocksteady develop something innovative.

I think it's overlooked how not even Bruce (the known peak human in fiction, with a comically strong sense of will, mindfulness and smarts) could beat the fear toxin. He just stopped struggling after the first dose (in wich his fears of becoming Joker took over and he became a host of the virus), when Crane injected him AGAIN (injecting joker this time) and the Joker's worst fear of being forgotten came to be. They left after they completed the game content wise. Sefton Hill and Ian Ball wrote the story just like Arkham Knight. Sefton Hill was also the one who made the game a looter shooter as he was the creative director.

Whats weird about the whole retcon for deadshot is that, it implied that the "original" deadshot retired after his zoe born. Its like telling us before batman year one, deadshot already made some contract kills, had several clients that hired him before.
But somehow, when blackmask (joker) hired him to kill batman in origins, he was listed as caucasian. To make the inconsistency even worse is that in origins, it was stated in his profile that deadshot was former military, how come amanda waller didnt know the person she recruited to the suicide squad is a fake one .

In my opinion, this and Gotham Knights should have been reversed studio-wise. WB should have made SS and been allowed to do whatever however (since it wouldn't be canon to the Arkhamverse) while Rocksteady made Gotham Knights and tackled the Court storyline with Jason, Dick, Tim, and Barbara post-Arkham Knight.

The line where Harley says "Causing long term mental and emotional damage to everyone you knew" makes no damn sense. The Batfamily respected him. The GCPD and Gordon respected him. Even supervillains such as Mr Freeze, Ras Al Ghul and Poison Ivy (who's now randomly Harely's love interest) grew to respect him. Catwoman and Talia loved him. Jason forgave him, and Harely had a bigger hand to play in *his* mental and emotional damage than Batman ever did. Everyone else who knew Batman was a psychopath. And Harely's mental and emotional damage was caused by Joker.

As someone who loves anti-hero Harley, there’s no doubt that Arkham Harley was not meant to be a good guy in any way, shape or form. She continued being a villain not because of her grief, but because that’s who her character was. Remember in Origins, even before she was “hypnotized” by Joker, she worked with the Falcone family (known criminals) and had ties to the League of Assassins. She was written to be a pure villain who sold her humanity for power since the beginning. Retconning it just to make her more like the more popular version of the character cheapens the entire universe and what it meant in terms of DC lore. Or maybe I’m just babbling who knows

The straw that broke the camels back for me was when boomerang asked if Deadshot was supposed to be white. I look at that scene with a bombastic side eye. They made him black in this game (for no actual reason mind you) and try to place a backstory behind this change thinking it'll excuse it
Second red flag: they managed to kill the flash by just.. shooting at him? I get they had the thing that temporarily slows him down but throughout most of the fight hes just summoning tornadoes and running around.. after it was established he can kill all of them in mere seconds
Third red flag: flash saved them and they all gave him no respect whatsoever but when wonder woman just throws them into a building and didnt even save them throughout most of the game she gets beat by superman and suddenly they care? I love Harley in all her forms, but DC is hellbent on making her a hero in every instance possibe. Making her an anti-hero in the main universe made sense because it was gradual. This Harley had no doubts. She reveled in the pain she inflicted with the Joker. Not every version needs to be a tank girl. Gimme ditz Harley, complete evil Harley, mad genius Harley. She's such a versatile character that can shine in more ways than the one rocksteady chose.

One of the few redeemable things about Suicide Squad is the Voice Acting, rarely the lines themselves (again, the writing is obnoxious) but in how they are delivered is passable. The Animations is also OK but still a fall from grace compared to the Arkham games over 9 years ago. Granted, this game has a bigger open world but there are many things that should've looked better, considering how it took to make it

In regards to Poison Ivy - I heard somewhere a theory that the reason they turned her into a child was because they were desperately trying to desexualize her. In Arkham Knight, Ivy was smoking hot and sensual at that. Buuuut, mah wahmen objectification, so what's a surefire way people do not objectify a woman? Make her a child. That way, if someone does try to sexualize her, it says more about them than anything...

I’m not even inherently against Harley having a redemption arc even in a universe like this. But they went about it in the worst way possible.
If they want us to see this version of Harley as redeemable, they have to show that she feels remorse for her actions.
They should’ve had her begin still smitten with the Joker, But perhaps as the events of the game play out, she comes to realize that he was a terrible person (there’s a number of ways you could do this but fear toxin hallucinations would probably be the easiest solution).
She feels ashamed that she worshiped this man for so long and the realization of the atrocity she committed in his name finally kick in.
Show her breakdown and think that she doesn’t deserve to go on. Then you could have the squad, who at that point have come to kind of like each other, gives her some tough love, and explains that feeling bad about herself isn’t going to get them out of the situation, but if she really does feel guilty for what she did, she can help them, save the world.
Yeah it’s a bit generic, but if you have to redeem Harley in this universe, that’s probably the best way to go. You have to show that she feels bad about what she did rather than just saying “it was a phase.”

It’s funny how the audio from Arkham Asylum doesn’t fit with Origins.
In Origins it blatantly shows you that she is just a rube who instantly falls for Joker with no real push to manipulate her. Joker and Harleen have one conversation with Joker doing the “one bad day schtick” and says something along the lines of “Ya ever just connect with someone” Joker referring to him and Batman, but Harleen instantly thinks he is referring to her and boom she is infatuated. Really, she is not that much more different than her own show counterpart who is really demented. As a child she loved Frankie Muniz and he was her first crush at a young age and she is unhealthily obsessive over him to which he unrequited, going as far as to have his parents file a restraining order over young Harleen's stalking. I think she wanted to fake a pregnancy to catch him too, it’s a season 1 episode so it’s hard to remember.
Most tend to say she is tragic because Joker’s abuse but she slept her way through school and then planned to exploit folks at Arkham to make herself famous. Harley has been everything from a mass child killer to an attempted rapist. And the kid killing is a strange repeat motif throughout her publication history.
Arkhamverse: Helped in the murder of children
Batman TAS: Helped in the abduction, torture and mutilation of Robin
DCEU: Helped in the murder of Robin.

This game would have been so much better if it wasn't in the arkham universe.
All they had to do is Gotham Knights but with the Arkham Knight DLC Cast.
Even without the forced continuity, the story would still have had issues with bad tone shifts, excessive use of plot armor, flimsy explanations why why things that shouldn't seem to work would work, and almost every opportunity for character growth squandered.
But at least we could take continuity and "sudden changes in character" off the table, which is non-negligible.
Downplaying everything Arkham Harley did in the past for her redemption arc while simultaneously making it seem like the guy who fought all his rogues to save the city in one night on at least 3 separate occasions was the one with toxic traits all along is Wild.

Harley & Ivy were friends in animated series, but it's not an Arkham canon. Also Harley in animated series was redeemable and sympathetic because there weren't anything heinous committed since cartoon was kids friendly.
What annoys me most is they're making fun of Arkham Asylum Harley where she was played by Arleen Sorkin, not Tara Strong. So using Tara Strong to bring down Arleen Sorkin is just really mean spirited toward the woman who brought the character to life.
Doesn't help that Arleen Sorkin passed away not too long after Kevin Conroy passed and not too long before this game came out.

To this day im still wiling to put money on the idea that Gotham Knights was suppoused to be the Arkhamverse game and sequel to arkham knight.A LOT about it just fits with how the characters and story plays out. The joker is mentioned but never shown in the game for like....NO reason. Batman is meant to be bead and yet he's not on a rampage? They probibly planned to make it the arkhamverse game and suicide squad was poribbly oriignally supoused to be based on the MOVIES version of the characters. But due to how they saw Avengers crash and burn. They tried to salvage gotham knights as best they could by ripping out all the live service stuff. But they KNEW it was bad. So they remvoed all teh arkham verse refrences possible and changed things in the delay.
And gave it over to suicide squad. WHich if you really think about it. is trying WAY too hard to tell you it's Arkhamverse. LIke all the refrences and explinations given for deadshot alone feel really forced and kinda stupid and shoehorned in. This was probibly meant to be it's own universe. I saw Kill the Justice League game, how King Shark talk about his dad, Kamo, a lot. Would make more sense if this King Shark is actually Kid Shark the son of King Shark from the Assault of Arkham movie. Kid Shark only appearance was Arkham Knight Comic. It makes sense, since Suicide Squad game sets 5 years later after Arkham Knight. Kid Shark grows into new King Shark, he wants to kill Waller to avenge his dad but he got captured and got bomb in his neck just his dad. Why, Rocksteady didn’t go this route.
The should’ve make the new King Shark form a relationship between Harley Quinn and Captain Boomrang cause they were on same team with old King Shark.

The dumbest part about Suicide Squad kill the Justice League is we all know why Harley looks the way she does. It's not even a graphics thing. She didn't look like that in Arkham Knight. Her face model is clearly inspired by Margot Robbie. This was more of a movie tie in than an Arkham spin off. Because Will Smith clearly inspired the Deadshot of this game.

I get the impression that they tried to use the connection to the Arkham games as a way to boost the marketing since many people
have fond memories of those games but it backfired terribly when people realized how disconnected the game actually was from
those games so they probably would have been better off to have it be its own thing. Making it live service though was probably
the biggest mistake and that's likely because of Warner Bros. They should have let Rocksteady develop something innovative.
In my head canon this is definitely an alternate universe and gotham knights takes place in the arkham universe
Except Gotham Knights also doesn’t line up with the Arkham games. Ra’s Al Ghul and Talia being alive are two big examples.

I think it's overlooked how not even Bruce (the known peak human in fiction, with a comically strong sense of will, mindfulness and smarts) could beat the fear toxin. He just stopped struggling after the first dose (in wich his fears of becoming Joker took over and he became a host of the virus), when Crane injected him AGAIN (injecting joker this time) and the Joker's worst fear of being forgotten came to be. Like no bruce didn't just thug out fucking fear toxin, he succumbed to it. If the mentally strongest character in his universe can't overcome its effects, i doubt the suicide squad can lmao
