I believe the demo tapes were given to VHS retailers for preview to see how many they would like to order for the store. Explains the selling points all over the box
I beleive you are correct. My sister worked at a rental store when I was young and we had a few of those that she got to take home, I beleive it was just the regular movie.
I believe when you play the tape, words come across the top of the screen saying demo only not for rental. I have the 3 musketeers from when my aunt worked at a rental store.
So happy to hear another person mention Martin Short's Clifford! Such an underrated and hilarious film; tons of nostalgia since I first watched it as a kid. The very obvious grown Martin Short playing a 10-year-old is so absurdly hilarious.
Those tapes were for Independent Video Rental Stores to test the product before making a purchase and how many copies they were deciding to purchase. That time window was saying the distributors estimated payback window for rentals would be 55 days before seeing a profit on original investment. Remember the tapes sold to rental stores cost anywhere from $100 to multiple hundreds of dollars per copy for the rights to rent and make money off of. I used to get tons of those movies for free at the anniversary special of my local video store "Director's Chair Rental". I still have my VHS demo copy of "Face/Off". Love the show keep up the Lord's work in seraching for those Holy Grails. Ni Ni Ni! XD
This video is plucking my nostalgic heartstrings! I totally had a few of those Star Wars Micromachines sets growing up! And the speeder set you looked at, I had the storm trooper version of the toy and it had a function that made it “explode “ like it had been hit by blasters or something.
I had those Woody and Buzz toys from Burger King as a kid and I used to collect the Teenie Beanie Babies from McDonalds. I also remember my grandma having the pumpkin beanie baby. Garfield, the Pink Panther and Schoolhouse Rock were big parts of my early childhood. So much nostalgia!
When I worked at Movie Gallery back in the day we use to get the demo tapes 2 to 3 months before the actual VHS release date so we could watch it and know what it’s about and recommend them to customers. A demo tape is the full movie but it scrolls a warning message at the bottom or top of the screen through out the entire thing every 5 to 10 minutes saying it was a demo copy. Cool find.
Silver trees were used with a color changing lamp thing so that it reflected the light. We had one when I was a kid. It had a mother to spin the color wheel. It was loud.
Kinda cool you found Rebel Raiders! I just picked it up at a pawn shop last month. It's nothing too exciting, but it's not that bad from my short time playing it! Also there's a typo on the side of the case. The I is capitalized in "NIghthawk", just like that. 😂
The Rocketman vhs that you picked up was a screener tape for rental stores and it is the full length movie and it is currently sitting on eBay for $15 and your copy is in better condition than the one on eBay
I love seeing all the stuff on here I used too have. I had the Wonder World star wars set new. You would add water and a packet of stuff and it would solidify into a Gel and you could place the ships and lasers like they were actually floating. Memories!
The demo tape is like a screener. It will have copyright info scrolling on the bottom of the movie every 10 mins or so. Its like the "For Your Consideration" Oscar screeners
When you said you went to the movies for your b day , brought me back my bday is in dec , I always had party’s at the theatre the two movies I remember were Wayne’s world , and home alone 2 awh the 90’s
Christmas tree absolutely HAS to go up AFTER Thanksgiving--never before! Nice! Finally someone else knows of Bedknobs & Broomsticks! Lady Laci loves that one! Okay, those Micro Machine Ewoks are pretty great--I may need to be on the lookout for those for Lady Laci.
The demo tape is a screener that was distributed to video stores in advance of the release. Would have a disclaimer scroll periodically or throughout the film. Provided retailers and advance screening of the film's in order to determine how many units to purchase. Have a few of these in my collection from my days as assistant mgr of West Coast Video in Miami.
i had those star wars jawa figures! i feel they were an obscure character in star wars. i like obscure and star wars i may look into getting those jawa figures again! i enjoy your flea market trips always brings me back so much nostaglia!
Demo vhs tapes some times had extra stuff in it, like a DVD does now. Sometimes it was just half of the movie so stores can preview it before they buy them.
I love to watch Pink Panther cartoon when I was a kid. The Pink Panther toy might not be as valuable as TMNT or Star Wars, but it worth to keep it as for own collection.
The demo tape is a preview copy sent to video stores ahead of release back in the day. My brother used to bring them home. Actually a couple still at my parents. And let stores know if they bought copies for rental they had a 55 day window ahead of ppv pay per view
you will not regret pixels the movie it's amazing the day it came out i got the dvd with the digital combo so me and my kid both have it. Took 30 years for them to finally make a good movie about classic games.
1:36 Way back in the day, the letter "e" at the end of certain words told you how to pronounce the word. Basically when to say the word using a "soft" syllable or a "long" syllable 3:13 Dorbz aren't knock offs of Funko, they're just different style that is still released and made by Funko 11:51 A "Demo Tape" means that video stores played it on their TVs and its basically just full of trailers BUT it does in fact have the full movie. It ALSO has box office stats which were included on the tape to convince the rental store that they will make a good investment on putting it on their floor
Those socks were too cool though the Odie plush was pretty sweet as well, always loved Odie when he was done taking Garfield's nonsense and sent him flying with a well placed kick
Christmas is our favorite holiday. So our tree went up around the first of November.but we just started putting lights outside a few days ago. But considering your wife lets you have that Awesome game room I would let her put the tree up in July if she wanted to!!!😂🎄
The star wars wonder world is something you add water to a packet in the box that makes it a clear gel that you then position the toys in to simulate flight or in space.
I hate when I go into an antique mall and there's that one person selling games for more than they're worth... grrr. Love those socks Rick!!! I totally need a pair of those. Definitely my favorite pickup of the video!!!
Don't know if anybody else suggested it, but I think the rocketman demo tape was an in use tape for a video rental store, I would say most likely blockbuster. I don't know if you remember, but they would always play movies and ads on loop in the store. All of the jargon that you read about the cycles really do remind me of what you would hear on marketing materials for a store. So, that's a crazy cool find.
I think the reason that they add e's and extra letters to some names is because it's the Olde English way of spelling and it just makes it look fancier.
The Rocketman was a screener tape sent to video stores so they could decide if they want to buy it or how many copies they wanted to buy, I come from a family who used to own multiple video stores.
VHS tapes were an easy $100 before releasing to walmart. So to keep rental store interested in buying any VHS they would send demo tapes to some distributors and then they would pass on to the stores. Later on its why you would see say 10 copies on VHS($1k) and then 60 DVDs ($10-$20 each) even in DVD early days. Rental stores pushed DVD hard.
Answer to extra letters in Towne Shoppes: Newspapers used to charge advertising by the letter, so original "English" spellings were shortened for a company's bottom dollar. That is one reason why American English spelling is different.
I stayed at a campground and drive-in movie theater in 2015 when Pixels was released. They played a double feature of Pixels and Terminator: Genisys. Those were undoubtedly two of the worst movies I've ever seen, and were completely unavoidable. I can't imagine watching either again.
Clifford was such a wierd but kinda good movie I forgot all about that movie till u said something about it even though usually when I hear Clifford i usually think Clifford the big red dog
I’d love to actually go to this place, I collect vinyl and comics and I’m always watching this like “go through that vinyl! Go through those comics! Get this! or get that!” Haha
@5:51 the toy story woody and buzz light year still sealed in the Burger King package ? I woulda got em. I remember those and for some reason I wanted it and was sold out at every Burger King I went to or called at....Worth quite a bit , too bad u passed it up

@@Acuraweaponx I may be crazy but I think they were sometimes black and white instead of color

Pixel was an awesome movie ....very much related to retro games like Donkey Kong & Super mario bros...
Awesome pink panther find! Loving these retro hunting videos, makes me wish the Toy Shows around here weren't cancelled. Thanks for sharing. Cheers!
Found a working Nes Classic Edition still in box at Goodwill. They only wanted ten grabbed it fast as I could.

Funny to see Dorbz called knock off Pops when they're made by the same company hahaha
loved that Pink Panther, and had that Buzz Lightyear and Woody growing up.
I did like Garfield but I have to admit...I’m on team Heathcliff!
I wish there were more antique malls 😭

Pixels rule. Amazing movie.
Dude pixels is an awesome movie
I have that Lord of the Rings set and it’s amazing! You’ll definitely sell if for a profit, and fast! :D
Those socks are the best. Those are something chase after the right price would wear. I have to say that blockbuster shirt is killer.
Level up!!!

My favourite thing you found? The Farscape video. And the Babylon 5 figure that you considered to be Star Trek.
What store is that? There was alot of things I want for my collection,!!

Man, you got a good vibe, reminds me off ellie from lastofus, when she is scaning stuff from the past👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
6:53 I have 2 of those Star Wars puzzles but I’m missing 1 of the 3. I don’t know what to do with them as I don’t have them all.

Christmas is not about what you want but what makes someone you love happy! Put up the tree! What would it hurt you.
I loved The Hobbit movies and I loved Mr Freeze so yeah we agree =] there you go with my Star Trek again!
Those socks were too cool though the Odie plush was pretty sweet as well, always loved Odie when he was done taking Garfield's nonsense and sent him flying with a well placed kick
5:05 Pink Panther was sitting on top of Soft Kitty from Big Bang Theory. That may be retro in the next decade.

You left us in suspense with the Furby... What do they go for?
I think the reason that they add e's and extra letters to some names is because it's the Olde English way of spelling and it just makes it look fancier.
Batman and Robin was the first Batman movie I ever owned growing up xD so it was my intro to the Batman movies
That KFC truck is cool I want one for my collection
I am sooo sad u didnt get the micro machines!!!! I loved those as a kid!
