- This is a great upgrade for all i3 Mega owners, the Mega X carriage allows you to use an assortment of different hotends, thankfully moving away from the original v5 hotend. It also allows mods such as BLTouch and also direct drive mod.

Can’t tell you what a relief it is to find a content creator that’s still running a Mega X AND performing upgrades.
My Mega X has had very little use, but I’m getting a lot of mid-print failures for no apparent reason. I can’t justify replacing it, so I’m going I’m hopeful that I’m getting a lot more life out of it with the help of your upgrade tutorials.
What exactly is happening mid print? Bed adhesion, under extrusion....?
I3 mega still going strong for me. It's printing the best it ever has now I've upgraded to X carriage and ldo orbiter 2.0
I 100% concur. I'm running the bondtech extruder and am about to do this upgrade.
Hey, thanks for the vid. I'd printed out the x carriage some time back and plucked up the courage to fit it today. After a bit of faffing with kliper configs, printer is working like a dream!
Orbiter 2 next, when it arrives from China.😊
Nice work! It's a great mod
What is the distance between the SHAFT 8mm ?
A skr mini e3 v3 video on the i3 mega would be awesome. I replaced the stock hotend with a triangle lab all metal volcano. Use the blue tube to avoid the deformation issue
I've been thinking of doing this for a few weeks now as I'd love to move over to Klipper to control this 3D printer. I need to finish up some projects first though as I'm using the printer to make some parts. Just this week I have finished converting this mega x carriage to direct drive, using the Orbiter 2.0 as the extruder. Wow, this is the upgrade I have been needing on this machine! It breathed new life into the machine and now prints at 0.4mm layer height with a 0.6mm nozzle at 100mm/s speeds. Stringing has been reduced massively too, I should have switched over from bowden many years ago. I'll be putting out a new video showing this upgrade soon.
@@ThisDesignedThat please share the firmware, etc 😅
@@Phil-D83 no firmware changes needed, i just calibrated e steps and flow rate
Can i ask how you got those horizontal rails? My anycubic Mega-X has a single "X" aluminum bar.
was also confused for a lttle while. but its the normal anycubic i3 mega without the x. the x in the title refers to the "X-Carriage MK4".
yeah, not confusing at all lol.@@jk1422
Yes sorry this is the original i3 mega, not X
did you change the x-endstop to the carriage, or did u leave it like it was?
left as it was, i rarely print the full bed size
Did you print the xcariage with ABS?
yes esun ABS+
@@ThisDesignedThat did you print it using the anycubic mega? Im trying to print it with PETG on my anycubic mega x, but the prints arent as smooth as urs
I printed the Mega X on my Voron 0.1
Do the ABS prints look smooth like that out of the box or did you had to do sanding?
I printed at 0.1 layer height. No sanding or post processing, just straight off the printer.
The voron has much better print quality compared to i3 mega
