    More like the Bodycount spiritual sequel we never got. I never really saw much F.E.A.R. in this, aside from the art direction. There is so much more to F.E.A.R. than just shooting in slow motion for six hours.

      I picked up Bodycount a long time ago and have yet to try it out. We'll see how that goes whenever I end up getting my 360 set back up, I guess.

    I think people's mileage may vary on how they like about the F.E.A.R. games and its successors. Overall, thanks for the review. It's really good.

    A lot of people in the TH-cam comments section of several Trepang2 reviews saying the game wasn't inspired by FEAR. Um yeah, slo-mo, slide, dropkick, talkative enemies, no ADS... Might want to reconsider that thought.

    I loved playing the demo of this game back before it came out a couple years ago. Which is why I am really surprised their are only 5 main missions on release I thought they would have been way more considering the amount of time they have spent developing the game.

    The giant "detection meters" constantly popping up and having hitmarkers alongside "of course" giant health bars with the bosses certainly doesn't remind me of FEAR...and, as I suspected, the story is pretty much an afterthought. I guess I'll be waiting for that discount then.

      The inclusion of stealth in general is just bizarre for a game like this.

    Good review, a lot more critical than others. I don't really care about anything other than gameplay so I'll pick it up but I'm gonna be dreading that final section you were talking about.

      @@SIGNOR-G It really wasn't as bad as he made it out to be and I played on the second hardest difficulty. The boss you fight multiple times during the level isn't all that difficult you just need to learn his tells and dodge sideways and the gunfights against soldiers are a lot easier than those in the previous mission. Although I could understand someone's frustration if they grabbed enemies a lot throughout the game, I just never did that so it didn't bother me.

    • @SIGNOR-G
      @SIGNOR-G 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LuongNguyen-lb6ez the last part is hellish on Rage Mode and thats understandable. I grab a lot in the game but once i adapted it was just a matter of perseverance. I fell in love with the combat system so i guess i was very motivated despite the challenge.
      For a game made by few guys i think it came out pretty well.

    Game looks half fun but would get repetitive after a while. Are there any quiet moments and exploration to break up the combat or is it just shoot grenade kickslide all the way?

    • @DWTerminator

      Very few, and they're not interesting. It's mostly action.

  • @ninochaosdrache3189
    @ninochaosdrache3189 ปีที่แล้ว

    Given that it is an indie game, I didn't expect much of a story, but I didn't think it would be that losely connected.
    It's probably no enough to break the game for me, but as you said, the ending wouldn't feel satisfying from what you told us.

      @@DWTerminator Well considering the name came from the Game Jam they did and they thought it was an interesting name to go with, it doesn't really matter in the end. And I've seen one of the devs on a live stream say it was squared, and one of the art guys say 2. It's a pick and choose deal on this one I think anyway, I hate saying it but "personal preference"

      ಠ_ಠ
      I think you've lost your sense of reality on what is or isn't considered a good Indiana Jones movie. Yes, Indiana Jones 5 is somewhat of a messy movie, but at least it has its core values of Indy & the gang punching Nazis in the face, some morals to deal with, and featuring supernatural elements in there, making it mostly a fine movie. Plus, Indiana Jones got injured for the first time since The Last Crusade in the fifth film, and it felt exciting again, despite the problems with the CGI since Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Oh yeah, there are no stupid Aliens included from George Lucas's idea or that infamous "Nuke the Fridge" scene, and of course, Shia Lebouf's stupid whiny scenes leftover from the Transformers films. Also, Indiana Jones got ruined twice before so-called Modern Disney took over Lucasfilm, which is Temple of Doom (second film) and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (fourth film).

      @@DWTerminator apparently the book it was based on finally got fan translated too. Sacred and Terrible Air. But I can confirm its not necessary to enjoy the game, as the game is more or less a prequel of sorts

    • @DWTerminator
      @DWTerminator  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One would hope it isn't necessary. If books are required reading to be able to understand a game, there's something seriously wrong with the way the game's written.
      Frankly if anything I'm more concerned with the whole "beyond sick of politics being shoved in my face constantly and Disco Elysium is a rather political game" problem making me always say "... eh I'll mess with it later."

    • @HeretixAevum
      @HeretixAevum ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DWTerminator There's political themes and they are intertwined with the main plot and the murder mystery itself, but it is very nuanced in the way it is presented and certainly isn't a piece of media that is trying to infoctrinate or bully you into a way of thinking.
      A good example of this is a particular character who you run into early on who is a very well spoken racist who doesn't mince words with you about how he and his culture is superior to you and yours. The amount of depth in which the character and his views are presented was really surprising to me, but I didn't get the impression that the game was presenting him as either right or wrong. He's just there as a piece of the world and it's up to you how to deal with him and his ideology.
      Also I had no idea the game was in any way related to a book. I had no issues understanding the game and comprehending the world building.

      Just because it's not a 1-1 copy of F.E.A.R. doesn't mean it's not "like F.E.A.R." The combat mechanics and the AI vocalization are clearly inspired by, and are rather solid (albeit imperfect) attempts at replicating, what F.E.A.R. was doing.
