I think this is a no. One down side is you now have one strip that is dyed and not grown out. The other is the one that is clearly an issue that small front grey. Also this color you put on seems a bit dark (too late now) another down side of this method if you are unfortunate. Just go cold turkey! Your hair looked really good just before you redyed it with the color on the half of the head. I think it was already a pretty soft grow out. Just stick with the wait method! you looked really good with gray hair!! I am doing mine out right now, did add highlights as I was going to an event and caved. At that time my hair was virgin with lots of gray (white) in the top section. I shouldn't have done it my hair was SO dry after that. It's been a year for me growing out have about 5 - 6 inches of growth. I guess slow growing. I normally have my long hair cut once a year. I just got back yesterday and finally found a hair dresser that listens!! she did a good job just trimming and layering the ends so I can still put my hair in a pony or a braid. It did feel good to get the dry ends off and will go every 6 months now that I feel comfortable with her. Plus it was nice to have a chat. HUGS stick with it and don't touch the dye.

I agree. The wait method is good. Your long hair looks amazing. Same texture as mine wavy lots of hair.

I think the strip method works well. It's good to try different things to see what works. You can buy the mascara type wands to blend the front greys and it's temporary colour that just washes out. You're doing well to try.

I think it looks great I'm doing this with my very thick wsvy dark hair, ive seen lots of other women do this that want to disguise the harsh line of growing out the grey. Keep doing it if it makes you happy 😊

    Hairdresser here.
What I do for my ladies who grow out their grey is a foil. We put the color into the solid grey roots in streaks to break up the line and give platinum highlits to the ends to make it appear closer to the grey mixture growing out. Did this for my Mom and she was able to grow her natural grey out while people complimented her color.
Bottom line you need to break up the line of grow out.
Some people keep foiling color instead of solid grey coverage, long hair only needs it every 3-6 months, shorter hair, more like 3 months but it’s less maintenance, cheaper, and no color comes in contact with the scalp. Ok. I’ll stop rambling now.

Hi, that sounds like a good way to transition to grey. Thank you for your advice 💖

    Good luck, Kati!
I did the “dye strip and flip” method for about 6 months before gradually stopping all dye in October 2023. The dye strip was the best option for me because I couldn’t deal with the “cold turkey” demarcation line. But it does extend your total grow-out time, especially if you don’t want to cut your hair and/or you don’t “flip” your part to the opposite side to hide the strip as it grows out. Your hair seems to grow quickly though. I cut my hair to above my shoulders in April 2024 but decided not to do the flip. I think I have another 8-10 months to grow out my dye strip, which would bring my total grow-out to a little more than 2 years.

Let it just grow, 🧡thats what I did! I LOVE my grey hair. It is so beautiful! Its a programmed condition we have put upon us that we need to hide our authentic self, our natural beauty.

I think that if you really want to achieve your intended goal of going dye free without cutting your hair then you've just got to leave your hair alone to grow out naturally and accept that it's going to be a very long road. My advice to you would be to get on with your life and think about other things because no amount to looking in the mirror and measuring the rate of growth each month is going to make it grow any faster (believe me I've been there and done that!). You could just wear a hat to cover the line of demarcation rather than the dye strip method, that way your hair is still growing out evenly. Just my opinion though, I hope it helps rather than hinders. 🥰

Not sure what you accomplished here. You seem to be fighting your urge to go natural.

I don't think the dye strip method works well for wavy, medium textured thick hair like yours. The front still shows as you pointed out, and will only show more each month. I think it probably is a good method for those with very straight, fine, sleek hair though! I think your natural silver is very flattering color on you! I remember how nice it looked last time! I've tried at least 3 times to grow mine out and right now am still using henna, lol (the back and top were still quite light brown! I'm just not quite ready yet and that's ok. Here cheering you on, it seems you are ready we are here to support you! :)
