As DC said during the Channel 4 broadcast, in 2015 the dominant Merc was absolutely nowhere in Singapore, then went to Suzuka and won 🤷🏻♀️.
ikr media and fans are blowing this so far out of the water.. RB's car just didn't suit Singapore, setup went the wrong way and strategy calls were very questionable.
Also Malaysia 2015. The first race in the turbo hybrid era where Mercedes was beaten on pure pace.

@shintaro.. I'm not a max fan by any means, but I'm definitely not a hater either. I'd have loved to see his win record extend a bit further. I also wanted red bull to win every rave of the season because that would have been just a crazy accomplishment.
I think it would have also guaranteed that the FIA or FOM management do something to hinder Red Bull in some way to try and bring the pack closer.

Even the best teams in any sport have bad days. This was a bad day for RedBull. Mercedes had shockers when they dominated, so too did Ferrari back in the early 00s. Just how it works.
At least this is F1, you have a bad day in 2 or 3 races in a season, you can still become a champion. In a knockout tournament, a bad day can be right out game over.

The two cars closest to the RB19 performance (though still nowhere near as dominant as Max's car has been) were the 1988 McLaren MP4/4 and the 2016 Mercedes W07. Neither McLaren nor Mercedes saw their performance collapse the way RB's did in Singapore. Going from easily lapping 2 seconds faster than anyone else to finishing, effectively 7th and 10th (two cars that started ahead of the RBs failed to finish) is unprecedented for such a dominant car - probably the car with the greatest performance advantage over its rivals in the modern history of F1. So, no, F1 teams with super-dominant cars don't have bad days like this. The motorsport press has utterly failed to explain how the RB19 is so fast, so they can't really explain why to was so slow today, this interesting video notwithstanding.
Got to say, Red Bull have things so dialed in even their simulator can accurately show where they would struggle

Yeah kudos for this. Really great analysis of things that myself, as a big F1 fan but not a tech head, would frankly have not known about. It is crazy sometimes how fickle the sport can be with these almost invisible elements all at play, it’s nice having it explained and I’m in awe of those who can see it as it happens and explain it back. Ultimately I’m just watching cars go round a track for an hour and a half and if someone is going slow or fast, I don’t honestly think too much into the why of it all. I do think Sky F1 did do a better job this race of explaining the strategy of the race, how bunching the pack up led to stifling everyone through the field to capitalise with pit stops etc, it felt like an easier strategic race to follow due to their insight whereas in the past sometimes things happens that aren’t very well explained and so go over my head a touch. And yeah after all that sadly I’m an F1 fan of like 20 years so I should know better haha.
Actually not 20 years, more like 25 years. Followed it on and off since about 1990 (born in 84).

Yes the Redbull was rubbish this weekend. That all said Max made 19 overtakes, if they were a bit more lucky with safety and virtual safety car he could have been fighting for the win.
Hats off for Carlos, he´s showing that emotional stability, and overall brain power, is sometimes more important than pure race craft.
Russel shows again that on deciding moments he is subject for mistakes.
they weren't rubbish all weekend. their race pace was fantastic. their qual pace was bad which is normal. just this week it was extra bad. without the SC, or a later safety car, max easily could have won.
Russell is similar to Leclerc in that regard. They are really fast, much faster than their Teammates most of the time, but Both want too much too fast and tend to make mistakes while under pressure. Altough it has to be said that Sainz seems to have improved this year over last year and has shown that he is going the "Prost-Route" of driving with his head more than risking things. I don't know if people still remember, but last year in Jeddah, Lewis had a shocking Q1 elimination whereas George made it all the way to Q3. I think it is similar to what happened this time in the sense that the team found a good improvement in FP3 and decided to go greedy and push it all the way to the extreme. But because it's FP3, they didn't have chance to test it out, and ended up backfiring massively in qualifying.
Im sorry but the delta is unprecedented, normally max finishes 30 seconds ahead, this race he was 30 seconds BEHIND
@@1greenMitsi You really think so? 20 seconds behind if we take into account the SC time gain everyone else got. And last year in Jeddah, Lewis was 40 seconds behind George. So on a street track with 60 laps, Max with a bad setting is 50 seconds slower than you anticipated. It is widely acknowledged that a bad setting can be 1 seconds slower per lap, that matches perfectly with the 50 seconds gap. Do you still want to stand by your naive thought?

@@adriancojocaru5846 I completely agree, and like I said the technical analysis is spot on. But bottom line it's a learning experience for Red Bull, it just seemed to me to be a bit of much to say "oh we knew it wasn't going to go well awhile ago, and well it went as badly as we thought." Next years car is already almost finished and a late race like Singapore and changes made for it won't derail next years car. That SC came at exactly the wrong time for Red Bull. Max probably wouldn't have won anyway, but podium finish would have been much more likely. Too bad the second SC was only a virtual one. A full one would have made things even wilder
Great race today
This was very insightful, thank you very much for explaining in a way I can understand XD
Great summary to explain the complex variables of F1
Versttapen seemingly found some work around mid race as his pace was genuinely quick and even comparatively to the mercedes on fresh tires at the end of the race. And i kinda wish that red bull went for a way more aggressive strategy of double stopping for softs or mediums to end the race not because red bull has to with the lead but because it shows a competitive desire even when struggling and would be interesting to see how well the drivers could use the tire advantage to make up for the lack of driveability. And obviously knowing that the vsc came aswell the timing would be great for the 2nd stop theoretically and so it leads to many questions in my opinon on if red bull with tire advantage could have any chance of a podium compared to the deflated result they did get
Did you watch the race? They pitted and went 15th and 18th. They only ended so high up as others went out.
What you saw was their usual superior tire deg kicking in, and the tires operating in a better temperature window as their stints unfolded......OR, They did not actually improve, but rather the Others' tires were dropping off faster as per usual.
@@mabozar15 What? Verstappen literally passed everyone on track from 15th to 5th in the last 20 laps with the fresher tires. only Russell's was not as he was in the wall.
He was 2 tenths off 4th at the end. Without Russell doing Russell things, he passes Leclerq with ease too. Everything went wrong for RB this weekend and Max finished 5th. I'm not writing them off just yet.
@steve4880 the original point I was responding to was that he could have been on the podium. No he couldn't! Maybe if he had listened to JPL and not ruined his hards, he might have had tires that would have lasted until the VSC and then he might have been nearer a podium. Of course he was going to be faster on a medium tire versus used hards, just as the Mercs were. Those tires were going to go off before he would have hypothetically approaching Hamilton. Again, just as the Merc tires were. Had others not gone out Max would have been starting from lower than 15th.
It would also be worthy of mentioning that Max started in 11, had a far from optimal set up, pited outside of safety car and still managed to finish 5th.
yeah..this is just a small hiccup..before the weekend started, i already know RB can't win here if they can't nailed the FPs before qualifying..and so unlucky win that SC and VSC..
Holly sh, new to this channel. Amazing content. Cheers
I think this really shows how on the limit the Red Bull is with it's aerodynamics and suspension platform.
I think it was due to tire warmth, with the amount of anti dive they run in the suspension setups they struggle to heat the tired and Singapore doesn't have many fast corners to heat tires well
This! It's also one of the reason their quali pace isnt as good as their race pace
Tire warm up has been an issue all season
It was because The set up people went too soft on springs. It was actually a very "Rookie move" that cost the entire Team the whole race weekend.
They messed up in qualifying and were just unlucky tbf but looking at where Max finished they’ll be fine.
Very good explanation. Thnks
Well done! Great effort!
The Red Bull car just did not work for the race, but no chance of going to win every race in the season that would’ve been very silly if that happened 🎉
I know very little of aerodynamics but it makes me wonder if it being a street track and surrounded by barriers makes the backwash and airflow different than a normal track.
I'd imagine the dirty air acts different since it's surrounded by barriers and catch fences.
@beeman4266 In this case, it was the People responsible for suspension set up changes that cost the whole Red Bull team the entire race weekend.
Highly unlikely that absolutely nothing happens in a 23+ Race season. This was bound to happen sooner or later. I thought it would be a mechanical failure mid-race, but The track just completely throwing your Cars entire balance on its head sounds plausible, if you consider how Hyper-engineered these Cars are and just a single missing piece somewhere can cost you heaps of time over a lap.
On the exciting side, this means that Max and Checo still have used engines that can blow up at anytime. Giving us the chance for another scrap for 1st like this. Max beat the 9wins in a row record, he isnt going to lose the championship and the teams cleansweep is impossible now. Im a RB fan but as there is quite literally nothing to really go for anymore this season, might aswell hope the races we have left are entertaining.
Besides, seeing Mercs still bottle it while getting all the advantages you could ask for, is satisfying as hell for me.

Are you serious?
It’s witnessing a record that would almost never be broken
If you think about it, Max lost 24 seconds because of the first safety car, and pitted 1 lap before the virtual safety car, which could have gained him about 12 more seconds.
The fact he finished only 20 seconds behind the leader, despite having to overtake half the grid since his pitstop, tells me he could’ve won that race without the bad luck
But that would require an insane amount of luck too, he would have to get two SC into perfect windows to gain position while others pitted and then another one for him to get a free stop. If the race ended without a SC he would be many seconds behind Sainz.
@@gabrielmuniz64 the first part does not require any luck. No safety car saves him at least 20 seconds. He would have easily been on the back of the Mercedes. Plus, without the VSC, Russell and Hamilton would most likely still be on old hards.

RBR has had 1 bad race. What is scary is that they stated this a while back that Singapore would be an issue. Let's hope that they quickly wrap up the season and start to focus on next year. Racing like this weekend was amazing! And this is coming from a massive RBR fan. The records are now broken, time for some challenges!
true! even as a redbull fan i prefer races like this week where we get to see them fight for positions. as cool as it would've been for them to just cruise to the finish line, i want to see the bulls fight adversity!
Haven't they already started focusing on next year's car?

That was single lap pace

Remeber that redbull Was one of the obly 3 teams that could not get a car into q3
Well if you'd watched it you'd see he couldn't control the car and kept having to be told to slow down and its that arrogance which inevitably led to his earlier pit stop meaning he missed the opportunity to pit at the VSC. And of course Perez also drives for RB.
Max was not allowed to attack from the pit wall because they wanted to drive a very long stint on the hard tire and if you sit too close to the car in front of you, the tires wear out.
coming from a guy rooting for RBR, its really fun to watch this week's race. as cool as it would've been for RedBull to finish the season perfectly, i would much prefer to see the bulls fight and earn positions because they believe that they deserve it. its always a good time as a fan to see your team fight adversity. heads down and onwards to suzuka! cant wait to see the japanese crowds again on my screens.
Thanks 👍
Race of the season, finally!!!
Did you miss the first 20 laps where nothing happened?
@@mabozar15what race this season there was action every lap?
Not in a long shot. Only if you like DRS trains. Only 40 overtakes (of which the half by Max)! Zandvoort had 175 overtakes, the BY FAR most exciting race this year.
According to this recap: Max had the 8th fastest car on the grid; got completely screwed on the timing of the first SC; got hit with a VSC less than 5 laps after pitting under green flag conditions; and had Sainz and Ferrari perfectly executing a race strategy that was explicitly designed to nerf Max and Red Bull even more than Max had already been nerfed by their own setup. And despite ALL of those things happening in the course of one Grand Prix, his gap from 1st place was about 5 seconds less than the average time loss of a green flag Singapore GP pit stop - the green flag pit stop he was forced to make because his hard tyres died about 5-6 laps after the first safety car. If the SC comes out around lap 30 he might well have won the thing. Not that anybody doubts that Max is a once-in-a-generation driver but just in case anyone does, this race just gave you a surprising amount of supporting evidence for that argument.
Well lets see Las Vegas. Street Circuit night race. But Cold.
for future tires we should hope for high preformance but high fall off rate, these cars are only interesting in those spots
Minus out the Red Bull and we had a great 3 way race everyone has been asking for for two years. Soooo yeah….
2 years? 🤡🤡

@@hammond9866there is no discussing with the orange army, they are all mentally deranged
@@hammond9866 No like actually The Race has something against Max. They used to do a driver rating after every weekend--maybe they still do but idk and idc--and even when Max would pick up Grand Schalems or whatever they're called, they would still rate his weekend 9/10 for some ungodly reason.
And before you decide to come at me with weird accusations about which driver I'm a fan of, my guy is Leclerc. I don't care about the Max/Lewis fanbase beef.
If Max would have started from 11th, on the same strategy as Ferrari, on mediums instead of hards, and would have pitted during the first safetycar, and later during the virtual safetycar, he would have won the race from 11th place. Max drove an excellent race, and had a blistering superfast second stint, almost reeling Leclerc in by 15 seconds in just 5 laps. He did nothing wrong, just had double bad luck with safetycar and VSC, one lap after his pitstop. The RB 19 is always much better in the race than qualifying. He will cruise easy and relaxed to his third championship, especially now the stress and tension to get 11 wins on a row is over. he is still by far the best driver on the grid, and his 3rd championship is 100% on merit and fully deserved.
Not exactly. The RB's starting on hards is the exact reason they COULD have contested for the win. The SC came at the almost perfect time for the Medium runners meaning they all got a half off pitstop at no cost. Max needed the tire difference at the end to overtake as he did (Medium vs medium, hard vs hard, this wouldve been impossible on a track like this)
Based and Maxpilled.
That’s considering RB was on pace with Ferrari, it wasn’t. He could’ve gotten a podium with better luck though
I want more videos by Ben! Great, knowledgeable and nice explanations. His voice does not tend to go into scandal-yellow press attention seeking spheres like some other Race members do.
Amen! Too right. One shameful thing is now that 2021 is over, seems like everyone believes in their own 'press' being the end all be all. Don't Believe the Hype!
At this point any bad race wont hurt Red Bull anyway. Good for them now they know RB19 is bad on bumpy and slow speed corner and can go home with best result possible and valuable data to work with
Does the fact no teams thought that the flexi rule change would hurt red bull and it did prove that the other teams and in people around the paddock have no idea what about the red bull makes it soo dominant... they will blame the set up issues but its too coincidental that they well back soo far when the new Td came in. The never used the additional supports for the floor when the rest needed them so they obviously want some amount of flex... I can't wait for a few years down the line when it all comes out what exactly they did to build the most dominant f1 car in history( unless the don't win another race all season). Its probably some crazy simple which is why nobody can get their heads around it... they are thinking to much about it when it's just a crazy efficient and slippery car which has some amount of flex somewhere(possibly underneath) that's bleeds off even more drag on the straights and give more downforce in the corners...
It literally wasn't the new TD tho. Red Bull ran the old floor and wing for quali and the race thinking that it would fix the problems from practice and the car didn't improve. They ran old parts, and they were still shocking.
@@sheldoniusRexso surprising tbf. It is possible they used an old spec part made with a stiffer composite ...fairly sure they don't need to declare like that like areo surfaces.b
@@rhyswilliams4893 you are literally commenting under a video which explains in excruciating detail exactly how Red Bull was so bad, and if you would actually watch it you will find that the tech directive had nothing at all to do with Red Bull's problems. Nothing. It was suspension setup, a gear box issue, and ride height that were the actual issues here.
How about focus on who are doing well in a race, mot just how RB was beaten.

This video is about red bulls race not about the entire race. I'm sure they will do another video about other teams
They do many videos.
Red Bull being beaten was a major talking point of this race... the podcast will take care of all other aspects of the race.
Apart from Monaco, Singapore is the slowest speed race of the year. Low speed grip mostly come from the tyres, which most front running teams are quite competitive. The strongest suit of Red Bull is its aerodynamic grip, which is useful in medium and high speed corners. There is no surprise this weekend will be challenging for Red Bull.
If Red Bull wins the remaining races it will still be the most dominant race car in history of most win %.
Not to mention Ferrari has really good mechanical grip
@@e2rqey and a bit too effective aero grip. Making tyre degradation worse if the condition went against them
