Great video guys, as always! I feel like this comparison is more than relevant today with all the improvements that Canon and Nikon have introduced in their cameras since they first came out. Still, they're playing catch-up and Sony, although not as far ahead as it once was remains the king of mirrorless full-frame having a more matured system, greater selection of both cameras and lenses to cater for different needs and audiences, so let's hope it doesn't fall asleep in the lead and see how it reacts to Canon's up-coming EOS R5 and R6.

I'm someone who's always used Canon. I love their glass, and I love their make and feel. I still do. I used a Canon 5Diii until a year back. Bought a Sony a7iii last year to get into the mirrorless market mainly because EOS R was kinda expensive and lacking in the lens department. I still use my old Canon during travel because it has wayyyy better battery life compared to the modern Sony, but I have to say that Sony's AF is astounding. And the eye tracking is phenomenal! Even under low light! Also, the two main lenses I use with it (70-200 GM and the Sigma 35mm/1.4) are absolutely amazing. I can't go back to my old 70-200 IS lens anymore. Haha. I'm excited for Canon's upcoming R5 though. Also for the new compact 70-200. Will probably use that as my second camera in a year or so if the world doesn't end by then. Haha.

Guys, one of the early Canon firmware updates has corrected the noise pattern issue when extremely pushing in the shadows. This is know and well documented and does, as a result, improve dynamic range results, which are really close to the rest of the pack, in a way that many would say any difference is minimal (DPReview agrees in their latest article on which the vid is based upon).
DPReview however have not updated their studio scene test and their test shots do not reflect that.
I am mentioning this because in the video you said that Canon has not made any changes in dynamic range behaviour through firmware.

My brother in law wants me to be apart of his wedding by taking photos. The thing I’m afraid of is the age. Is buying the a7iii going to hold up for the next two to three years. Are they going to discontinue it and render it obsolete. A lot of the wedding stuff is going to be happening around the first part of next year. The A7iii and A7C are in my price range. I bought the z6 and the a7III and used them both for a whole year of weddings. I ended up keeping the z6 and selling the a7III. When comparing the a7III to the z6 firmware 3 the AF is near identical. The Nikon is far ahead in grip, build, weather sealing, EVF, IBIS, raw video, 10 bit external, touch screen, menus, and colors sooc. The only two areas the Sony is better is in battery life which is close to double, and the ability to power the camera while running via USB. The z6 is by far the most underrated camera, at the current $1799 price and firmware 3.0 it is amazing. Still bummed about the single card slot.

I have a very similar story to yours, as a wedding/portraiture photographer/videographer I was debating between with Sony and Canon. I bought a Sony a7ii went it was first release as a backup camera to my 5dmarkiv, and it was alright camera but the colors and AF was just plain awful, but after the release of the a7iii and a7riii I ultimately ditched Canon to fully commit to Sony. Yes, the colors are not the best, but the battery life, dual SD card slots, and the AF was more than enough to switch :)

Great review guys. I have a Z6 and I use it for Bird Video. When it is 'on' it really does punch with the 200-500mm F5.6. However, I find it frustrating as the focus struggles with birds on branches or on the ground. Basically, the camera does not know what to focus on which means manual focus and then the subject has often moved away. I have been told that Sony would be better. Michael Davleris, yes you are so right about the importance of an accurate EVF. I actually bought a Sony A9 and returned it because the EVF and the implementation of the EVF was really bad. Over sharpened and Sony didn’t use the full res of the EVF oled. My friend have a EOS R and I compared the EVF to my Nikon Z6. In my eyes there is a huge difference in both accuracy to the real world like colours, details, amount of light etc in favour to the Z6. And I noticed in the EOS R when you moved your eye a bit in the viewfinder there was quite noticeable amount of distortion.
Nikon Z6/7 have the only sates factory EVF of the bunch. Though I haven’t tried A7rIV or S1.

@@AugmentedGravity well considering most shots we take are overhead or below waist horizontal shoots (and this is especially true for videographers) consider how many moves you need to do with Canon Eos R. You have to swivel screen first then turn it arround, with Nikon its only tilt, 1 move only. Its also more robust solution, not sticking out of camera too much. Well there are shots when i miss full swivel on my Nikon z6 but i actually use tilt a lot and prefer it as it is.

Sounds like you can’t go wrong with any of them.. I went with the z6 and I’ve not been disappointed.. videos come out excellent photos are amazing.. native glass is spectacular.. would some f1.2 or f1.4 be nice? Yes but it would also be expensive and I probably would be adapting everything if they had that eos r strategy.. I don’t know a single eos r user with native glass because it’s crazy money.
Also I’m able to adapt Sony and Canon lenses with a cheap adapter and it works very well so the lens range is covered.. the power of that giant mount is showing.

If i want to choose between Nikon z6 and sony a7r III, what can be best choice? Considering factors-
    1. I'm going to do newborn, kids and maternity shoot (indoor & outdoor), so great auto focus would be my priority since kids move a lot.
    2. I'm a Nikon user having f-mount lenses and want to upgrade to full-frame mirrorless, so if i go with sony, i might have to buy all new lenses.
    3. I will consider shooting videos as part of story telling of kids, so again autofocus tracking is my priority.

Earlier in the year I helped someone buy the Sony A7iii, he tried to convince me to switch to mirrorless but I was being stubborn and thinking that I was going to stick to DLSRs for the foreseeable future. Well during a photoshoot with 2 young dancers, knowing that the Sony A7iii would have a much easier time tracking the things they did than my Nikon D750, I took it with me despite only having an 85mm 1.8 lens for it. I ended up using it for 90% of the photoshoot and that convinced me to get the Nikon Z6 (and sell the D750 and D500).

@SwitchRich because they already have covered the most common zoom lens ranges. They have a 12-24/4, 16-35 both 2.8 and 4, 24-70 both 2.8 and 4, 24-240, 28-75, 24-105/4, 70-200 both 2.8 and f4, 100-400 and 200-600 and most users already own the zoom lenses they need, especially if they bought the 24-105/4 deal kit. That's why the best sellers in BHphoto from Sony are primes and macro followed by the 200-600mm.
But then you see that overall best sellers for all mirrorless brands are the Sigma 24-70/2.8 for Sony E, the Tamron 70-180/2.8 for Sony E, and then a bunch of primes followed by the Sigma 12-24/2.8 for Sony E.
