so I guess this is a good option for someone who doesnt want to dual-boot windows but absolutely needs a dirt cheap 2nd PC to run some light Windows-only applications

Yeah, without a doubt and if size is a problem the Zimaboard is tiny so would work well

So if I got the Zima board 832 just to watch movies directly on it to a 4k 43 inch tv without using a server, would it work okay for that? I don’t want it to get too hot. Sorry not very good with computers but interested in that particular one for it’s size and price and because I only require it for watching movies directly from the computer itself not as a server, and running up to 4k 60hz. Thanks for any advise!

It should be okay, but to be honest for the price I would go for a raspberry pi 5 with a heatsink case for better cooling

How would this board do emulation?

People use it for Proxmox it seems. It wouldn’t do many but would be perfectly fine for it

I have a couple of thoughts and questions. I apologize if I missed it, but which version of Zimaboard do you have? They have 3 or 4 versions with different procs and RAM. I wonder what the bottleneck is here? It's nice to see the FPS, but this only tells us the result -- not the cause. I'm fairly certain the bottleneck is the graphics card. Although they're severely limited, there *are* GPUs with the 4x form factor, usually for microtowers and compact computers. I have a Zimaboard 832 and an older 4x PCIE graphics card with 1GB VRAM that I might try out to see if I can get this running decently for my kid to play SIMs 4, Minecraft or some other less-demanding games without taking up much desk space.

Hey! Very fair comment, this was more of a general play around but the Zimaboard I have is the same as you, the 832.
I found even just running windows 10 it was using up most of its CPU to run, so the CPU was a bit of a bottleneck I believe.
I would like to test this on Linux where it is lighter in that regard.
GPU is also a big one as in my case I was using the integrated graphics which would not of helped the case of running games
