Thanks again Tim! I'm relying on your laptop repair tutorials again because they are the most concise. The Alienware 15 R4 model requires the most maintenance. Alienware just HAD to be unique conpared to everyone else.
I am so glad I found your video before I removed the wires for the tron lights as one of the other videos shows. I just bought a second hand 15 laptop with a slightly bulging battery and followed your instructions replaced the battery with no problem. Many thanks for posting this video. subbed.
Cheers Tim .... Funny Though When You started to lift the battery out You Put the 'banner up for Items are in the Description with Sizzling Sound - Thought She was Gonna Blow lol
Tech Tip -What you need to is very carefully disconnect the battery and put a 1000 ohm resistor across it to fully discharge the little bomb before your remove it The battery is a lot safer when it's fully discharged
Same thing happened to me recently. But the swelling broke one of the screw holes. I was able to weld it back with a soldering iron as its plastic. Rn I am running on power cord only because my replacenent battery hasn't arrived yet.
Awesome video Thanks. I recently bought an Alienware laptop and uninstalled the battery so I could use AC power only but the laptop wouldn't start up without the battery installed.... So I went into Device manager and disabled the battery.... It seems to be working fine now
On the off chance you see this did you put a new battery in after? Or you just took out the old battery and closed everything back up? AC power only sounds pretty legit for me
@@jns08d Hi i took the battery out cause i was worried that the battery would swell up and damage my laptop... i ended up having to put the battery back in cause if you turned the laptop off even when it was plugged in the laptop wouldn't power back on unless the battery was installed. i talk to dell about it and they told me that the battery must be installed for the laptop to work properly
So I assume the battery is un necessary because my battery lasts a solid 30 seconds before dieing and I’m worried it’s gonna blow but I don’t have the money to replace the battery
hey tim! im new to ur channel how to fix the pop up "windows licence is gonna expire soon" how to fix it is it normal or needed an action? does it effect my computer?
It is the result of too much current inside a cell of the battery, which causes a build-up of heat and gas. This can be caused by overcharging, manufacturer defect, deep discharge, or damage to the battery.
Mine has done this but it hasn't torn the chassis, I only noticed when I took it apart to clean out dust from the fans, I have no idea how long its has been like that but pretty worrying
Ya especially if the battery is under a large amount of charge which this one has the potential to have. Why on earth did they continue to use this laptop?
Alienware really make faulty laptops, all of that lump sum amount of money that they charge for their devices isn't justified. My 15R4's battery swelled up as well. Alienware is extremely shitty.
This destroyed my laptop before i realized what it was. This is expensive garbage and these should have been recalled. I removed the battery, got it out of the house. I can boot and go on the internet, just plugged into power cord. Dodged a bullet. Tools needed: cell phone type repair screw driver set and round nose pliers.
I too have Alienware 15 r3 laptop, i must say this laptop is absolute shit. Just within 2 year my battery bulged even though I have never used this lappy even once for gaming, just for programming purposes. After changing battery, 2 years later I am facing same problem again.

HaHa yeah that does sound like something shorting out.
haha yeah I just posted the exact same thing haha. made me jump a little
Thank you for the awesome video. The battery you linked to is 15.2 volts. Is the high capacity 99wh battery lower voltage?
Tech Tip -What you need to is very carefully disconnect the battery and put a 1000 ohm resistor across it to fully discharge the little bomb before your remove it The battery is a lot safer when it's fully discharged
Thanks John for your input.
no kidding
Followed these instructions and replaced my battery with EASE, thanks!
Great!

Tim how do you dispose of those bloated batteries? Thanks!
I take them to a recycle center.
Is there any harm at keeping the battery at home until you dispose of it?
I would keep it outside.
Best video on this topic. Many thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for sharing Tim.
You bet. Thanks for commenting.
thanks for the video. it saved my laptop before it became like that :D
Glad I could help!
What the heck I have a 17 r4 when I opened it, it didn't have an ssd 3 card ...does anyone know if I need one and what's it for..cheers
What typically causes the batteries to swell and bulge like that?
Usually when a battery freezes, or over charging. They power supply may be bad and not regulating the voltage

Because its too old already.

Get that replaced ASAP. Thanks for commenting.
Hey can you keep the computer without the battery like not sourcing a battery and just leaving it plugged in with a batter or is that not possible?

That poor beauty

Hey can i use this laptop without battery i mean using laptop only through plugged in while battery is not inside .
Yes
Yes, that is what I am doing now. What is the point of getting a battery again if this could be hazard in future again.
@@TimsComputerRepair hey man, I did this but my computer doesn't start without the battery. Do you know what could be the cause of it?
@@joelaguilarfuentes8758 try disabling the battery in the device manager than uninstall the battery and see if that works
