Just a random share before I watch the video. I bought an Alienware M17xR3 in 2012 and it was one of the worst laptops I've ever owned having an LCD problem within months and, naturally, it wasn't cheap to buy. I've tried to fix it recently so I'm interested in this LVDS fix.
@@stevedevice1866 the quality seemed to be hit and miss with lots of people swearing by their Alienware laptop. Did you ever get the GPU issue fixed? It was great that you can swap out the GPU though even to buy a replacement today runs $200-300 which is good PCIe GPU money.
My friend bought an Alienware around 2012 and is still using it to this day. It's gotten a new drive (HDD -> SSD) and battery, but otherwise has worked really well

I've been watching your videos for over 2 weeks now (Work as IT Admin) and I love your professional when dealing with awkard customers, we can all learn from you, thank you for your videos
I imagine some devices take longer to disassemble and reassemble, than it takes you Alex to do the repair. All that work taking it apart, in some cases finding it a 'no fix', is exactly why an 'Attempt Fee' is charged and justified.
Seeing the soldering in real time was interesting. It usually looks like you can solder connections like that in a few seconds. Now we see the painstaking precision required to do "better than factory" soldering without a lot of rework removing solder bridges between pins. Love the joke about what's on your finger - trees, giraffes🦒😅
What maintenance do you do for the solder tips. Do you clean after every job, every few jobs, or end of the day for tinning, etc. could be a quick how to video.
@@peterlarkin762 I do, I was just thinking there are a lot of new people that do not know how to keep the tips clean and tinned and it would be a good video to put out there. I am sure there are already other videos out there but a lot of people watch the channel.
6:03 - I've made the mistake of looking at my fingers under the microscope before too and I couldn't believe it - mine were full of dust, fibres, capacitors, diodes, resistors, wires and even a few old CPUs 😂
The pins soldering is fine, but, without mounting the connector, anyone in the future will rip it off the board when disconnecting the cable. Even hot glue on the edges would at least stabilize it a little.
Dell/Alienware still use beep codes during POST. Just search for Dell Alienware beep codes and you will find an explanation. According to what I found, 8 beeps mean LCD issue.
Mr Alex i wild like ask you something eles! What is the reason your videoes are so clear? And it is so bright and best color? And at nicc R B G pictures Does it depend on your loop or camera or what?!
your videos are great, but you should charge that customer extra because of the filthy laptop. he could have cleaned it before handing it over... or is the dirt coming from the repair? cheers from austria!
No. UV stuff is used in very fine amounts and only really good for securing pads and traces. Also for solder masking to replace existing solder mask defects. It is not strong but strong enough for pads.
The beeping noise is a (ridiculously loud) diagnostics self test and it happenes when it finishes with an error, any error will beep the same way, but the error results are visible on the screen (not useful when you have a screen issue xP)
My takeaway from this video (other than don't buy an Alienware) is if you need to push 4 people holding hands in a circle, then use a flamethrower... 😉 Love the videos, Alex...

Tha laptop is a little dirty :) My father told me to clean CRTs inside out(we discharged the flyback and the capacitors before reaching inside) with a vacuum cleaner before giving it to the service personnel next to us so they don't have to dig out all that dust, soot, and everything else inside.
*Sure wish I had had someone do that for me. Then their life would have been blackened, Miller-Stephenson foam cleaner-soaked KayDry-EXLs and not mine. Cheers!*
My Alienware 17 R2 restarts after exact 30 minutes. and the windows startup time is also longer then expected. i have installed NVME and still windows loading is very slow. after loading windows laptop restart after 30 minutes automatically. i have disabled the 30 minutes option in the windows but still same issue. I am from Pakistan and following you since 2021. Please help me. i am a tech guy I can repair some thing if needed.
It looks like you're having a "media detection" problem at the end of the video. In other words, it's not detecting the boot drive. So job part 1 is done. 👍😎

Could you use the UV stuff to hold it in place?
