    Thanks- surely the issue is bandwidth/speed of your Ethernet feed. I am not currently able to connect to fibre so I am limited to 50mb per second download on a good day. Internally I have 10gb ps between my nas, streamer and main system and 1gb everywhere else so it is all about feed speed for me.

    @2:14 "None of those three operating systems can deal with DSD. Their systems do not know what the heck to do with DSD."
    Our host has said that nonsense before.
    It is like having an Excel spreadsheet, without having Excel (or Libre Office's "Calc") installed on your computer. Of course your computer will not have the instructions to deal with the format of the Excel file.
    How about an Ethernet port or a USB port.
    Try getting either of those to work, without having the drivers installed for those ports. It works out of the box, because it is so wildly used by every computer, that the operating systems include the instructions for your computer operate its Ethernet ports and its USB ports.
    The same is true for DSD content.
    Given an application or driver to instruct the computer on how to handle DSD content, and the computer will handle DSD content.
    DSD is used by very few people. So Microsoft developers and IOS developers and Linux developers do not include code to deal with DSD files (DSD content). But a simple download of a DSD compatible application and you are good to go.
    To a computer, everything is zeros and ones. DSD is no different.
    Our host should stop pretending that DSD is some mystical incantation that confounds computers.
    @2:45 "We trick the computer."
    It might seem like a trick to our host, who is not computer savvy. But there is no trick. It is simply programming, like every other set of instructions that your computer runs to do everything else we use our computers to do.

      Well, while I agree there is no magic involved, the fact is you want your data to stream asynchronously to the DAC and not get downloaded as a complete DSD file first to get near instant playback when you start the stream. The operating system doesn't natively support DSD streams as audio and as the audio architecture is mixing and attenuating as PCM, you really don't want to route DSD through the PCM plumbing of any modern operating system anyway. But it's somewhat trivial for a DSD streaming app to pull data of a DSD file in packets from a music server and route those packets asynchronously via USB to a DAC (native DSD UAC2 or DoP). Of course digital music is made of 0s and 1s and as long as the DAC gets those without errors and the DAC buffer never runs empty, you are 100% as perfect as you can be on the digital side of your audio system fidelity wise.

    To actually answer Paolo's question, no, there is currently no service that streams in DSD, and to the best of my knowledge there are no current plans to launch one.

    It's like freight train box cars... The cargo is dsd.... You can dump the cargo and it's dsd.

    What is the issue with playing a native DSF file? Hijacking PCM transport with DSF file stream in batched up is dumb.
    Sorry Paul this nonsense. A Eversolo DMP-68 will play DSD DSF files stereo and multichannel to an external DAC with HDMI and DSD.

    Or you could just listen to high-resolution PCM because every DAC knows what to do with it without any need to convert and the music will actually be better and less work is done by computers and DACs.

    Probably first, surely not important.
