Finally a gent who shows his whole thought process & work and doesn't just edit his "struggles" out. Gives me a much greater insight and helps way more.
A tip with the boot light , double check it turns off when closed, I remember a car I had some time back, bulb was removed I replaced it , it worked...... until run down the battery it needed a switch too.
Just a quick tip, when it comes to the number plate lights the do make them way to bright like wayyyyy to bright, when you see them on other cars on the road it just looks silly soooooo the tip is what I did is you paint over the LEDs in black paint and only leave 4 showing and then it looks OEM, you can leave 6 or 8 or whatever but I found leavening the middle 4 LEDs exposed and painting over the others looks the best. I dont mean paint the actual LEDs I mean over the plastic screen just fyi.
Great video. Excellent result with the coolant sensor. But get some proper coolant in there, that water will freeze and expand soon with the way temperatures are in the UK.
you reset the tyre pressure monitoring using the stalk controls. no sensors on the wheels - it uses the ABS system and detects faster/slower moving wheels. look for a video on how to do it.
Now imagine how much they would peel you off at an authorized bmw service center for that sensor and who knows what else they would have imagined if it had been done as it should be
You can get LEDs for the indicators as well, it's a common mod for motorcyclists as they are much brighter. You may need a new relay or some additional load however to make it flash correctly.
Just subbed as I've just recently bought a 1 series, and stubled upon your channel. Great work through and demonstration. Led upgrade is now queued up!
A little tip with the "A" light on the dash, try steering lock to lock and see if it goes off. I had an E90 3 series that had that light did the lock to lock trick and it went off, very sensitive these BMW's so could just be slightly out of calibration.
That's a result on all the jobs. I've done the same LED conversion on my E36 which has been featured on my channel. You forget to do the glovebox light which is a festoon bulb. There's nothing wrong with the number plate lights. The newer cars have them so I don't see what the problem is. You could've got the BMW part number from RealOEM for the boot light (63316962039) then you would be able to order the correct part. It is used on quite a few BMW models (1 Series E81 to F20, 3 series form E90 to F30, 5 Series from E39 to F10, 7 Series from E38 to F1 and the X1) so you should be able to source it and a genuine part might be reasonably priced. Not everything is expensive from the dealer.
Aftermarket parts are often half the price and far better quality than genuine bmw parts. Better quality plastic for starters. Bmw parts plastic goes brittle very quickly.
A friend of mine fitted some LEDs for his numberplates. Like yours, they were so bright, you couldn't read the plate fully after a short distance. Police pulled him over and warned him about them. We fitted some 501's from Euro Car Parts (£8). Dimmer and don't swamp the numberplate like the old ones did
Wow! Three wins. Well done. I would have been scared of breaking the mirror when pressing it into the receptacle. Now that I have an Edge ST with all LED lights, I urge you to complete the LED conversion and change all exterior lights, headlights, taillights, turn indicators, etc. you’ll be glad you did.
Not sure if anyone has told you that when the temp drops cold can put tyre pressure light on theres usually an easy way to reset it dono about BMW system
With the coolant, check the bleed screw just by the cap. BMW's are a real pain to bleed all the air out. Just because the float is high, it is not always full (personal experience). Also with sensor issues, i suggest you check wiring integrity first before swapping parts, as a high resistance in the loom may cause a light. When swapping parts go for OE or OEM, as i have had no,end of trouble with "other" parts. Febi always seem to be good BTW Just my experience, but really liking your videos 👍
Air lock, yes, it is a mare. I am not sure on the 1 series, but on my 3 series there is an electric pump in the coolant system, you can activate by either KOEO and i think high temp setting in the car and blower to low. It will circulate the coolant and bleed it in about 15 mins. If it is not automatic, activate it manually by running a power to it. At least then you are not running the engine with a lock.
Check the chains been done as it’s the n47 engines have crap chains and tensioners also check for play in the driveshafts as they are prone to failing and the diff is chocolate on the 1 series
Love your videos bro very informative and spot on just an idea though how bout links where u buy tools and parts for those that don't know what there looking for
The a is the automatic start stop. Cause it’s yellow you got a fault you could try resetting the pcm with a scan tool easiest way is on battery validation. Also make sure it’s got the right battery
Hey just wanted to give you a heads up, since your new video has comments disabled i couldn't comment there. You should register a battery change again because you have the wrong type of battery on the coding, The computer showed AGM when your new battery is a Lead Acid battery, and that makes a difference. Register again with the type corrected and if the number of CCA is different make sure to change that also. Just a heads up cause it might reduce the life of the battery in the long run.
Les Rogers Problem is this time of year it starts getting dark at 14:30 plus it’s bloody cold and rainy. Some jobs can wait till it’s a bit nicer out there.
Ref other vid and battery. Correct to undo negative first. Incase your spanner touches body work when undoing positive. If it touches when negatives disconnected you wont short battery through spanner risking welding spanner to body work and blowing battery up. My friend did this ok his bimmer
Nice work :) I have incandescents on the Z4, it's a 2003 so before LED's. The interior has an amber mood light which is very cool, it will clash with white LED lights so I kept all interiors on incandescents for now. Waiting for multicolour LED kit to be made for the Z4 so it can have mood lighting. Have license plate LED's fitted and they stay on for a while after turning locking the car, does that affect your 1? Apparently can code it out using INPA.
Good and informative video! One thing thou, I own the same E87 model and it would be really helpful if you left links to the merchandise that you purchased. Anyway, great video!
Bit confused why you didn’t just use the standard LED number plate lights for the e87, thought they came standard on 2007 lci shape anyway, but may have been later, then no issues with too bright lights and simply plug and play ( remove a small lug) no silly adapter wires
I thought it would be another vid of you dropping antifreeze on the ground again but this car has just water in the cooling system Another note on the hose clips there is no need to remove them completely, they pull out and sit in a groove and removing them is a sure way to loose them
You could have used your Autel diagnotic device to prove the water sensor was not switching. It would have been good to let people see how to do this instead of taking the guesswork approach.
It’s easier to check the coolant level if the tank is transparent...so let’s make it black so you have to remove the cap and look at a float. Good one BMW.
That float comes out of the socket really easy too, and doesn't go back in very easily unless you have the hands of a 3 year old. The most annoying thing? Not having an oil dipstick.
There is another You tuber on here that has a BMW 1 series and he has Something called Carly and was showing how to unlock a fair few Features on the car might worth a look into
13:45 you are absolutelly right.. Knowing you I´m pretty sure you would leave it dirty how it is and move on without us.. If you would do that I would unsubscribe.. just saying :D Nice vid, good job James and the BMW is starting to look nicer and nicer ..
@Savage garage Hi james glad you cleaned the door mirror glass 😁 my OCD was going crazy 🤣 I like simple fixes like that and thay actually work 👍another good one I also like the white lights of the led bulbs thay do make the interior exterior of the car a lot better very nice look iam looking forward to another video 👍
So you change the nice natural warm lights in the car to nasty LED headache lights, only joking, I'm sure it will look great, think I will leave my E88 M sport as standard though
Got a little question bought a mini cooper 2003 with water pump leaking changed it with a brand new one. Checked every pipe no leaks also checked engine block no leaks filled it up with water left car in garage over night then the water had leaked out but no holes visable. Did u have any issues like this when u did head on yours cheers
Finally a gent who shows his whole thought process & work and doesn't just edit his "struggles" out. Gives me a much greater insight and helps way more.
Oh you'll have plenty of that with a BMW. They're not complicated, but nothing ever goes to plan on them 😅
A tip with the boot light , double check it turns off when closed, I remember a car I had some time back, bulb was removed I replaced it , it worked...... until run down the battery it needed a switch too.
A coat and shorts in mid winter, a hell of a combo
True but its not even winter yet.
These videos are absolutely spot on for people like me who aren't clued up on cars I've learned so much. Cheers bud!
The only thing I didn't see you change is the glove box light very good James nice work
On your gravestone it will say
“He Jumped on eBay, this coffin only cost about ten quid”
Oh had a good laugh :D soo true
These are my favourite kind of videos you do James, I love your enthusiasm when it comes to changing your led bulbs. Because I'm like that too also.
best off test the antifreeze. with the weather getting cold now you dont want it freezing
On the list :)

Great video. Excellent result with the coolant sensor. But get some proper coolant in there, that water will freeze and expand soon with the way temperatures are in the UK.
Hey James, did you check the boot light actually switches off when you close the boot? There may be a reason it was absent!!
Came to post the same thing. Pop the phone in video mode in the boot and close it.
you reset the tyre pressure monitoring using the stalk controls. no sensors on the wheels - it uses the ABS system and detects faster/slower moving wheels. look for a video on how to do it.
Now imagine how much they would peel you off at an authorized bmw service center for that sensor and who knows what else they would have imagined if it had been done as it should be
Stumbled on this video, thanks a lot, found the same led set on ebay & ordered. Any suggestions for upgrading headlight bulbs. Thanks.
You can get LEDs for the indicators as well, it's a common mod for motorcyclists as they are much brighter. You may need a new relay or some additional load however to make it flash correctly.
Maybe check the boot light actually goes out, that may have been the reason it was removed. It could soon flatten a battery especially in cold weather
Sick video love watching these as I'm doing motor vehicle repair level 1 at college
Just subbed as I've just recently bought a 1 series, and stubled upon your channel. Great work through and demonstration. Led upgrade is now queued up!
How did you move the fiesta?!
A little tip with the "A" light on the dash, try steering lock to lock and see if it goes off. I had an E90 3 series that had that light did the lock to lock trick and it went off, very sensitive these BMW's so could just be slightly out of calibration.
Enjoyed that. I bought a pair of led reversing light bulbs recently and a can actually see when reversing now. Recommended them.
Hi mate cracking video did you put led lights in the doors too.? .were did you get kit from please i had led 6500k bulbs I mine for headlights .
More 1-series videos please! I love them
Love those interior lights, good work getting the trims off without breaking anything

Thanks my 118i offside mirror has edged out too. Looks good quality thought you may of had a link. Bulbs do get hot I've done that before lol
Aftermarket parts are often half the price and far better quality than genuine bmw parts. Better quality plastic for starters. Bmw parts plastic goes brittle very quickly.
Hi James, nice job, looks alot better now,the new bulbs just sets it off.

I do the same thing plus Car Symbol Projector Spotlight Courtesy Step Lights
Wow! Three wins. Well done. I would have been scared of breaking the mirror when pressing it into the receptacle.

They don't make an Edge ST
Boab M Tell that to Ford, because they are building them in Canada for North America. Here’s mine: www.myruffhouse.com/OnTheEdge.htm

I remember an E36 325i get air locked on me one time, the water level was showing max but air was trapped in the system causing the temp to rise.
Air lock, yes, it is a mare. The first thing you do is pull the codes if you can. If it's running with only water, that could be contributing to the sensor going.
13:46 mate its like you are reading my mind :))
Why didnt you buy led bulbs from autobeam again like you did for the mondeo, you werent satisfied?
Love your videos bro very informative and spot on just an idea though how bout links where u buy tools and parts for those that don't know what there looking for
The a is the automatic start stop. Cause it’s yellow you got a fault you could try resetting the pcm with a scan tool easiest way is on battery validation. Also make sure it’s got the right battery
Great content as always hope the welding practice is going okay your a legend mr savage

Great work mate. Keep it up! What bulbs are you using for sidelights? Are the legal?
Personally I would deal with the TPMS fault before worrying about LED upgrades.
Les Rogers Problem is this time of year it starts getting dark at 14:30 plus it’s bloody cold and rainy. Some jobs can wait till it’s a bit nicer out there.
tmo72 - I agree, but with so few replies from James how do we know that even the simple checks or resetting of the TPMS have been attempted?
Bought a set of LEDs my 2010 Polo from the same seller, they've been mint for the last 5 months 👌
Can you share the link pls?
I actually prefer the warmer looking older style interior bulbs. The led ones give a cold feel imho.
No antifreeze in the car?? and your concern is the lightbulbs? maybe in the next video?
It's the little things that make the difference
Great Video, Just got one myself. Do you have a link for the bulb kit. Cheers.
Have you checked the common fault on the engine. The cam chain tensioner?
She will be fine, tis on 200k miles if it was weak it would have gone ages ago
Such a nice and effective mod the leds. And so cheap also.
Excellent work mate 👏
Ref other vid and battery. Correct to undo negative first. Incase your spanner touches body work when undoing positive. If it touches when negatives disconnected you wont short battery through spanner risking welding spanner to body work and blowing battery up. My friend did this ok his bimmer
surprised you can just plug and play them led bulbs without any resistors etc
Great video mate! Ordered some interior LEDs for my E81. Also just picked up some smoked led side indicators. They really smart things up.
The fiesta has some how been put back together and moved to the corner of garden or you filmed this before you started restoring the fiesta
I was thinking exactly the same thing.
Hey great video.Did you check if the lights turn off in the booth when it's closed? And please reset the t.p.m manually it's annoying.
Get an LED adhesive strip for the boot, makes a huge difference to the useless boot lights
Or hot glue some piranha led boards to the plastic and wire them up to the bulb holder like i did.
Thank you I've just ordered myself some LED bulbs for my 3 series..... Thank you!
Nice job on the led lights. With led number plate lights you’ll have no problem being seen by Johnny Law.
Great video!! Finally E87 content. Where did you buy the led boot light? Thanks!!
Why don't you use the auto lights feature, you get coming home and leaving option with it on auto
Where is the fiesta mate
Thank you for this! Literally
My next mod on my 1 series so nice to see how it all looks! Literally got all the same lights
Literally?
@@bald_flexproductions565 Did Diogo just admit to theft?
The A might be the auto start/stop system
Did you have any issues with the bulb failure warning ⚠️ after fitting the led’s
are the LEDs flickering?
Nice work :) I have incandescents on the Z4, it's a 2003 so before LED's. Does your car have puddle lights in the doors? The projector Led look fantastic if you do.
Good and informative video! One thing thou, I own the same E87 model and it would be really helpful if you left links to the merchandise that you purchased. Anyway, great video!
Just to note i got a advisory on my mot for showing white light to the rear due to number plate led’s
Bit confused why you didn’t just use the standard LED number plate lights for the e87, thought they came standard on 2007 lci shape anyway, but may have been later, then no issues with too bright lights and simply plug and play ( remove a small lug) no silly adapter wires
Those LED bulbs are awesome!!.
Ignore all the twats who post negative stuff on your uploads James, I for one really enjoy what you do here on TH-cam!!!!
I thought it would be another vid of you dropping antifreeze on the ground again but this car has just water in the cooling system
Another note on the hose clips there is no need to remove them completely, they pull out and sit in a groove and removing them is a sure way to loose them
Did you get any error warnings from fitting the led sidelights?
Do you have a link for led lights kit?
Meanwhile, i keep my plate light as dim as possible...just to be legal 🤣
You could have used your Autel diagnotic device to prove the water sensor was not switching. It would have been good to let people see how to do this instead of taking the guesswork approach.
Get the door lights that project the bmw logo and de chrome the front grill
do you have traders type insurance with so many cars if so who do you use
Why on earth would you put a float in the coolant tank, just put a normal see through tank in there. BMW just over engineer the stupidest things
A transparent expansion tank wouldn't go with the rest of the engine bay.

Yes Carly is a very good adapter
Is the youtuber car throttle
Jonathan Hughes he’s called “the bmw guy” I think
Ian Jordan that’s the one mate got a black 1 series I’m correct
Can you do a video about buying high mileage cars please, I believe you have some knowledge to share if you bought this with full confidence.
Have you got a link for the interior lights ?
How to fix the tire pressure sensor error ?
13:45 you are absolutelly right.. Knowing you I´m pretty sure you would leave it dirty how it is and move on without us.. If you would do that I would unsubscribe.. just saying :D Nice vid, good job James and the BMW is starting to look nicer and nicer ..
Looks tidy mate. Nice upgrade 👌
A nice simple upgrade loving it!!👍
So you change the nice natural warm lights in the car to nasty LED headache lights, only joking, I'm sure it will look great, think I will leave my E88 M sport as standard though
Can you link the lights
Nice work pal
good luck with those LEDs mate. I'm sick of replacing those crap leds, they never last
Are there not any lights in the bottom of the doors that come on when you open them?
Quality maintenance video
Can you give me the link were you bought the leds???
What number plate lights did you get I’ve had two sets for my E87 and both have failed and got water and dirt ingress I just want it to work!!
Got a little question bought a mini cooper 2003 with water pump leaking changed it with a brand new one. Checked every pipe no leaks also checked engine block no leaks filled it up with water left car in garage over night then the water had leaked out but no holes visable. Link to the led light kit ?
I've got a 1 series there decent cars. As for your tyre pressure notification sometimes it takes a couple times to reset
You forgot about GLOVEBOX light and REAR DOOR lights !
