    Ali's actress wanted to go back to school and Daniels' mother wanted too much money, so they wrote them both out of the sequel. Actually worked pretty well.

    • @razkable
      @razkable 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      the mom is not a big loss considering where they went she does not need to go and it would be a distraction and also if she was in the film it would be for like a 50 second scene literally..unless she went with them which would probably lead to her leaving the story of film anyways not showing her much cause shes out doing her own thing in japan so...yeah...ali is not necessary i guess but it is lame how they wrote her off

      I agree, one way that I always saw this series was that in both movies, the mentor student relationship was there, but also in the first movie, almost a father and son dynamic. In the second in some ways there was almost an older and younger brother dynamic. But that is just my opinion. Either way, that was one of the best parts of the series, which is why I was a little disappointed in the 3rd movie when they seemed to have not much more than a student teacher relationship.

    @JT-sx5gl 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    So, the drum technique is obviously a fictional martial arts technique, but it is basically a counter strike. It is supposed to dodge and counter a straight blow to the upper part of the body. This is why Chozen was unable to get a hit in at the end.

His intensity makes the character 5x better. I felt a tiny bit sorry for him near the end because you can see that his uncle’s former attitude shaped him and near the end he felt betrayed.

    There should be no question in your mind whether or not you want to watch "Cobra Kai," especially if you're planning to watch "Karate Kid III" as well.
    You absolutely DO want to watch "Cobra Kai."
    A few years ago, when "Cobra Kai" premiered on TH-cam, I bought a subscription to the then-version of TH-cam premium JUST to watch that show.

    You guys were asking what that move was at the end. Remember that scene where Miyagi shows Daniel the drum technique? Daniel asks Miyagi if there's a counter move to the technique, Miyagi tells him to consult the drum. Then for a brief second you see Daniel practice the drum move then he follows it with a punch, just then Miyagi tells him to consult the drum later. Well Daniel figured out the counter punch and that's why he won against Chozen. It's basically the second movies version of the crane kick.

    I noticed you were having a debate at the end about whose fault Chozen's behavior was, given that in the previous movie, Mr. Miyagi espoused that there's no such thing as a bad student, only a bad teacher.
    What you have to remember is that Mr. Miyagi also added, "teacher say, student do." Chozen did NOT do what Sato told him to do.
    Ergo, the comment is true ONLY if the student does everything that the teacher tells the student to do. Otherwise, the fault is on the student.

    Yeah the final shot didn't have a good angle. The Drum Technique there is essentially Daniel parrying and attacking with an open hand strike at the same time. Actually this movie is a bit more realistic in terms of what you should do in a fight. As Mr. Miyagi says "Best block, don't be there" aka, move out of the way. People think because of movies, blocking is the all and all of fighting. Your arms aren't made of iron. Blocking hurts, you can break bones. You're trying to act against an oncoming strong force. Parrying on the other hand you're working with the force coming towards you. With moving out of the way, well that's obvious, you don't get hit at all.

    my answer for your question about how the nephew went on and in a sense became a villain is in part because of how he was allowed to grow up, he was able to cheat his people and lord over them because of his uncle, his actions were excused because of the fear of his uncle and if known by the uncle he might have learned he wasn't above honor, but because his being a bully, liar, and cheat were never checked, he didn't learn he wasn't above everyone, when his uncle disowned him for being what he always was, his fear and selfishness was shown and since he still had that belief that he was better than everyone, he acted the way he did. That is my take on it at least. lol

    What many people dont notice, if they ever do, is that Obone (Sp?) Dance moves are actually karate moves used in a dance way. Also there have been women warriors though out Japanese history, even at least one Samurai. So Kumiko, trying to strangle Chosen with her scarf isnt really unheard of, as he had just had a knife to her throat. Chosen's stature was garbage anyway so why not punch her in the face (not condoning it personally). Glad you enjoyed the movie. Daniel's attempt at a crane kick was ineffective against Chozen since he's also a student in Miyagi Do and a more advanced student then Daniel is. Chozen probably learned the crane kick when he was a kid.

    I didn't care for this sequel for one reason only - Chozen; his character is an irredeemable lunatic who wants to fight a duel to the death with another teenager over offenses to "honor." Where are the authorities to put a stop to such a thing? Is Okinawa a medieval kingdom to indulge such things? Someone should have summoned the Okinawa police to come and throw a net over Chozen and his uncle, for expressing such sentiments. Sato sees the error of his ways before the end, but Chozen is a menace to society - even that backwater society. I've seen clips of the new show, which seek to soften the Chozen character, but in this movie, he is ridiculous. Johnny Lawrence was a bully, but he didn't want to actually kill Daniel or anybody else.

      Wow! Seven months later, and not one person agrees with me? Nobody else finds the premise of this film to be ridiculous? Honor duels to the death - in the 20th century? And between underage teenagers, no less? There should be a travel ban for all American citizens to go to such a backwards country. Even when I was 15 years old, when this movie came out, I felt pure revulsion for the Chozen character. His character is so evil, that I am reminded of school shooters; who share the same personality traits with Chozen.

    restoring Honor through a Death Battle Challange is the only thing that is acceptable and matters and nothing else.... that is why way-way back in the day Japanese were very cautiously whenever speaking to each other so to not say the wrong thing and insult someone's Honor even by mistake because it could cost one many ways like by paying a large amount money or promising a son or daughter to marry their child or fight to the death or ordered to take their own life.... yeah! Personal/Family Honor is everything till the end of time
