You should absolutely make the Bright Axis Tee by Stephanie Lotven. The top boat neck is make with striping yarn. The pattern is in her book with tons of patterns make specifically for self striping yarn!

She has a book Knit Happy and all the patterns use self striping yarn. I've also seen self-striping used in Musselburgh hats.
