That was my come up too, started as a DJ at raves, got bored of dropping bass and beatmatching, got into turntablism and hiphop/urban, then wanted to learn to produce my own vinyl so I could battle with my own custom battle records, then I got cubase, a MOTIF-8, and never looked back, 20yrs later I'm living my dream in this music thing as a hybrid producer/artist running my own label :). I still remember making my own mixtapes with a double cassette deck, then I got a Tascam 4 track cassette recorder and despite the quality loss we would blast that in our cars sounding all lofi but bass heavy lol, good times. Now VST's/processes are made to replicate that dirty sound, full circle lol. Shout out to anyone that started on tech 12's lugging crates and boxes around for shows before serato/digi era.

@@quietwarrior1983 Lol actually no, my first set was quite bunk, but it was enough to learn the basics, and start saving up. My biggest spend was on records though. Back then we had to get the store DJ's to play stuff for us one at a time as new releases came out. I was actually serviced by BMG for a while too, so I'd get releases months in advance and have to fill out a survey on what I liked/didn't like, and could spin them publicly after certain dates. Once I got tech 12's and proper needles, it was bliss. Then I remember going through mixers/faders a lot as I kept running through them and wd40 to keep them battle ready :P.

i aint buying no vinyl cause that means less bass for the music that I like. Only digital can hold all that information. Tapes can hold more then vinyl, which is why West Coast music sounded better sonically, they did most of their stuff for tapes, and cd's while east coast was focused on vinyl for DJ's
CD's is the same thing, but CD's can hold a lot more information for tons of bass, but nothing can hold as much as digital
Instead of going against the times, artists need to find their own lane, and push the music themselves inside the digital matrix. I know one way, but that's mine!
