Stihl ms 461 R vs. ms 362 c-m That WINS!!!

  • So on a whim, I decided to make one last saw comparison before we headed in.
    In more detail, I started on the air flow improvement kick for this saw back in December. Took a while to get all the things sorted - the weather played a big a part there. It no longer has the stock filter element. In some of the testing it picks up a second on this log. We will be taking a look at it later after the owner has had the chance to run his saw himself.
    This 362 in stock form is rated at 4.69 hp. It has the Psy-Ko version zippkit, which has the second stage of combustion chamber work and the flow enhancement tricks.
    The 461 is bone stock down to the stops on the limiter caps. They are rated at 6.0 hp in that form.
    The 362 is seen handling (25 sec. & 25.5 sec.) this 461 (26 sec. & 26 sec.) pretty easily and it had the worst go in the knots by far.
    Hopefully the owner will be happy with the results.
    I'm currently available for custom saw modifications. If you are interested, please shoot me an email.

    Thanks for watching and have a blessed day wherever you might be on God's Green Earth!

    Its funny how there's comments on the saws pulsing in the wood? Or pumping the throttle?
    When they bite hard and pull up the rpms they do that, I've been jerked off my feet by a homelite super 1050a one time not having my feet braced when it did a " grab and go". Had my rakers/ depths alittle aggressive.

      In addition, some tweaks not mentioned and what's already been mentioned as well as refining a bit. There is are 2 versions of the 362. Standard with an adjustable carb and limited coil. The other is m-tronic with the controller the monitors the speed of the crank and uses a solenoid to meter the fuel accordingly. Thanks for watching.

      @hotsaws101  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bo hi.
      For me it would depend upon the bar length, and to a degree, wood density.
      A 362 is a short bar (28") saw.
      The 461 is from 32 to 36". Although my Torque Monster 462 will pull a 42 nicely.
      Thanks for watching.

    • @hotsaws101
      @hotsaws101  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      senorboardhead hi. Nobody is pumping the throttle. It's a comparison on how much trouble a stock 461, rated at 6.0 hp, has with a chain that is set up for a saw that actually runs good versus a great running 362 that is rated at 4.69 hp. We are observing how well the 362 pulls the same chain (much better than the 461) without the oscillation affect because it has noticeably more power. Thanks for watching.

    • @hotsaws101
      @hotsaws101  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Emerald - if your talking about the 461, it's completely stock, so that's expected. If your talking about the 60cc class machine, well, it is a 60cc saw beating up the next bigger saw in the model lineup with a 32" bar while giving up ~ 16.5 cc of displacement. Its giving up 1.31 HP in stock form per the manufacturers literature as well. At this point, I had never seen a 362 sporting a 32" bar and winning again a 461 - and I searched for it.
      Let us not mention that the 362 had the worst of the knot. And let us also not mention that this was filmed in the dead of winter when the wood was frozen.
      Thanks for watching.

      Oh for sure like cutting dull when the woods frozen and yes after running hopped up saws stock just doesn't cut it. I have 2 361's I've been playing around with that would beat a stock 461. No disrespect to any of them saws I just noticed how much them knots slow the saw down. I've been a buckerman on the west coast along with falling and had to deal with spruce trees along riversides with knots and limbs up to 18 inches. It's hard on chain LoL videos are awesome 👌 💪👊

      Yah , a 362c ported by an upper-echelon builder is a formidable weapon and will run with a right with a stock 461 or a 462c ... I’m in wny and our wood is different than timber from the pnw so an 18” bar/chain serves it well in our hardwoods ... I personally never thought the 362c a “dud” but then again it’s all a matter of perspective lol

      Dominick Luchi well yeah I agree about the Oiler situation.... (thanks epa)... when I first got my saw I called up my dealer right away and was like this thing isn’t throwing oil like it should and I got the thing maxed out....he said that’s normal as long as the chain is “moist”... and it does use the oil so I guess I “got used” to it... but if I wanna run my 28” imma have to upgrade that Oiler for sure.... and I don’t know any saw porters personally ... so I can’t comment on the 362 being a dud... but I feel a 362 pulling a 32” in the manner it did in the wood it did shows remarkable gains to say the least especially how it is down lil over 1.5 hp in stock form

    461 sounded like a tight chain and horsing/forcing in the knots.....not the fairest comparison...really pushing your psycho crap....use to port saws years ago....Husky really had a hard time breathing out of the factory....went cutting for aliving found the mild buildup the fast...when you psycho a saw they won't last long in the woods...that 362 doesn't sound all much better...it won't last that's for sure...

    • @hotsaws101
      @hotsaws101  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Robert hi.
      It's the lack of power in the stock form of the 461. The 362 had the worst of the knot, by far, and it still won.
      We routinely watch my "crap" Psy-Ko saws beat up on their bigger brothers with 15/16 more cc of displacement.
      I personally cut ~ 6.5/7 million with one & 4/5 million with another of my "crap psy-ko" saws. Maybe my chains were better than yours, idk. Cause, as we all know, that is the fastest way to wreck a ported saw...
      With any luck the owner of the 362 will chime in on whether or not his saw, seen here is, all that.

      Robert Shoemaker what’s going on mr cobbler...that is my 362 in this video... and lemmie tell you she’s still running hard ... granted I’m not a faller like Jack... but I cut for my personal firewood use and storm damage and favors for neighbors stuff like that...I use belray h1r for my mix oil and she usually runs a 20” bar... but like previously stated I have a 28” that I could and have ran on it... the Oiler hates it but I just did it for fun when I first got it back...this saw is wayyy faster then my 461 that I have to send jack... personally speaking i wish you could just feel what this saw feels like...it’s amazing ..and the camera just doesn’t do the sound justice...my neighbor called me when I first got it and said it sounded “pretty sick” ...but like I said I’m not a “professional”... but if this is crap work then I love crap work.

      Jack, has been logging for something like 40+ years and building & tuning saws for 30+ years, if not more. The insight he shares freely is massive and he doesn't get anything out of it other than some business and the knowledge that he is sharing his God given talent. He goes into detail about intricacies that take YEARS to glean.
      Realistically, you can't carry his bar lube and fuel, into or out of the forest for him. And what's with the nasty, insulting attitude?
      You seem like a real piece of work. I'll pray for some peace in your heart, man. You need it.
