    • @GobsAlmightyVlogs
      @GobsAlmightyVlogs 5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    NOMINATIVE = subject
    - *That guy* is called Damon
    - *The coffee* is hot
    ACCUSATIVE = direct object
    - He is drinking *the coffee*
    - My ex didn't call *me* back
    (... but it's also used for some prepositions when there is a sense of movement)
    - I am going *to school*
    - Please go *to the* next counter
    DATIVE = indirect object
    - I gave the pen *to her*
    - That means absolutely nothing *to them*
    (... but it's also used for some prepositions when there is no movement)
    - Damon is sitting *in the* cafe
    - My textbook is *on the* table
    GENITIVE = possessive
    - The start *of the* year
    - The purpose *of this* video
    - The father *of my* children
    Hope this helps!

      @@DamonAndJo Here's an example in German that uses all four:
      - *Der* Damon lernt *den* Satz aus *dem* Buch *des* Lehrers.
      - *The* Damon learns *the* sentence out of *the* book *of the* teacher.
      - Nominative → Accusative → Dative → Genitive.
      (All the nouns are masculine so you can see how it changes!)
      Fun fact: In certain parts of Germany, they add masculine/feminine articles to people's names, just like in Brazil! der/o Damon, die/a Jo, etc... Not sure about Austria though; apparently in some places it's considered pretty cringey and uneducated. Oh, and yes - you do have to change these articles to match the case as well 😜 Tables are a bit boring but they're the bread and butter of German, and you can abandon them once they're ingrained into your speaking habits.

      Keep trying! It seems daunting at first but it's not bad. You'll do fine. I think it helps to work on pronunciation early on while also listening to train your ear to distinguish sounds then words then whole phrases. Once you get the basic grammar and sentence structure down you're golden. I've been slowly self-learning as a hobby. The biggest help for me getting started was Assimil German, a smarterGerman A1-B2 grammar course and the Deutsch fur Euch youtube channel. There are other great youtube channels like Deutsch mit Marija, Learn German with Jenny, Easy German. DW.de has a course called Nicos Weg that is supposed to be really good.

    • @juliaanna4475
      @juliaanna4475 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I think every Austrian can speak standard German if they want to... For example in school you're only allowed to make presentations in standard German :)

    • @ulrichlehnhardt4293
      @ulrichlehnhardt4293 5 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      ho,ho,ho... wait a minute! They speak German! It is not a different language! Some have an accent which might be hard to understand for some northern Germans but to call it a different language is not correct. AND They can speak standard German, the news on TV is in standard German, the newspapers are printed in standard German, they write in standard German.. so please stop confusing the world.

    • @FlorianHWave
      @FlorianHWave 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Ulrich Lehnhardt It’s not an “accent”, it’s a very strong dialect with completely different terms and if you write it out the way they speak it, it looks like its own language. Some people, especially younger people and people in big cities only speak standard German, but the rest speak a dialect that isn’t mutually intelligible with Standard German and could easily be declared as a separate language, even though it isn’t. Same in Switzerland, where it’s even more like this.

    • @ulrichlehnhardt4293
      @ulrichlehnhardt4293 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FlorianHWave yes it is a dialect but not a different language! Please look up the definition of dialect and language before spreading fake news!

      @FlorianHWave 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ulrich Lehnhardt Are you having a bad day? 🤔
      Also, I have never said it’s a language. What I said was that it’s “de facto” (!) a separate language or could be considered one because it’s not mutually intelligible with standard German. I also don’t see how this is “news”. It’s nothing new. It’s always been that way. Have a nice day! 💕
