Argo: A Moose Hunting Spike Camp

- We met a guy who had left his moose hunting spike camp for the season and he recommended that we visit the camp. The terrain in easy was easy in a tracked Argo, but I frequently found myself wondering how many time I would have gotten stuck if I would have been on a four wheeler.

Yes, it was some serious pudding. On a couple of occasions, I have pulled side-by-side out of areas like this and it has brought me joy. 😁
I was for 30 years a resident of Alaska and operating a Hunting & fishing services then my mother's health with dementia kicked in, so I had to give everything up then move to the Pacific NW to care for my mother until she passes away.
For years clients told me of the hell they went through with care of parents until their passing and now I am experiencing it myself.
My advice now to anyone who may see one day taking care of a parent is to make a ton of money where you can pay for the care of a parent and not like me to give up all your life and I am not even able to take a job with my mother needs 24 - 7 care.
I miss home in Alaska and watching videos like this I can almost remember the smells of the tundra and types of bushes that nowhere else make those smells and the smell of the soggy soil all memories as an Alaskan hunter you always remember.
The silence in these places with no human sounds adds to the pleasure and enjoyment of the hunt.
My future is uncertain with America now a wreck and on a tread away from total KKK democrat communism, so I am uncertain do I want to return to Alaska or go back to live in Romania where I have lived in the past.
My 30-foot jet boat I used in Alaska I have with me now in the lower 48 so I sure would like to enjoy again hunting Alaska by boat as I always did.
I spent 1 year of time down here to rebuild my jet boat by getting rid of the unreliable Mercury 225 hp EFI then build the jet boat for an inboard jet pump powdered by a 1969 500 hp 402 Chevrolet Big block, now I have power to do 1 trip all the moose camp and people get them and gear to camp should I come back to Alaska and restart up business.

Beautiful country, but it looks "well traveled." Is there that much of an influx of new people there now? The Argo looks well suited for everything you put it through. Good luck on finding the right moose this year!
Thank you. We did travel a lot on trails. The trails were a bit tore up from vehicles traveling on them when it was much drier.
I needed this trhis morning! We head in on the 12th. This will be my first hunt with the Argo. Good luck!

@@RaisedinAlaska Argo performed great. 16 miles in then hunted from camp so a total of 32 miles. Happy with the AK Bush tracks. Only issue was part way out the sight glass popped out of the right turn master cylinder. I guess its a common problem? Had fluid with me so I whittled a plug for the sight glass hole from a willow & made it the last 8 miles out. No mooses harmed in our adventure. Hope you were successful!

You definitely need an Argo if you plan on hunting much in Alaska

Kind Sir may I ask for you opinion Please, I can't afford the 8x8. I have my eyes on a Frontier 700 Scout 6x6 and would get maybe the rubber tracks It's just for a single rider with gear I would drive it in some smaller lakes that have no name and muskegg. I am in the Rocky Mountain Area In Alberta, Canada. it would be close to 55k for an 8x8 and only 28k for the 6x6 both with tracks at that price point.
That’s a great question. I do not have personal experience with that machine, but I do know the room in the back of the 6 x 6 will not carry very much. So if you’re hoping to haul a moose out in it, that will be difficult. If you’re using it for fishing or just recreational then that’s not an issue for you. One of the issues with rubber tracks is they require a lot of horsepower to move around because they’re heavy and they hook up really well. With the machines that have less horsepower people frequently use the plastic tracks because they’re lighter weight and don’t hook up as well.
What gear are you wearing and do you like it ? Been wearing Sitka for a while now and am thinking about something else. Love your videos
Thank you for the kind words. I am wearing Cabela’s Dry Plus that I purchased nearly 20 years ago. I were Sitka as well, hate price, and when it gets cold I put this over it.
@@RaisedinAlaska What I find strange to ask is what clothing you are wearing and that to me singles a person who has very little to no experience in hunting because experienced hunts know weather patterns of the seasons and have already set them self-up with the clothing that works.
I would go into this kind of Alaska bush with wool clothing and rain gear, or the newer Military Navy digital blue Gore Tex coat I absolutely love this coat that a Columbia sportswear inner winter liner zips in, and I have multiple spare clothing.
As an Alaskan fishing & Hunting guide for 30 years I hear these questions by lower 48 stooges at trade shows that speak to me at my booths.
These people haven't a clue about the dangers of Alaska the weather and the animals that will kill you !
When doing a trade show in Eastern States I am often accused or photo shop altering the photos of dead brown bears the ones 9 foot and over because the common East coast hunter has said to me repeatedly, they believe large Alaska brown bears are the size of Great Dane dogs!
The other crazy questions I get is how I like living in Alaska Igloos and do I get tired of year-round darkness and below zero with snow year-round or how are the Cowboy & Indian wars going out west.
Now with so much BS about hunting brown and Grizzly bears with handguns like the 10 mm I was constantly asked can I come to hunt bears with my Glock 9mm or 10 mm handgun then when said NO you get a rash of nonsense, they heard this or that the 10 mm is now the only firearm used to hunt Alaskan bears
@@Lure-Benson I went back and watched the video to see what I was wearing. I purchased that gear 20 years or more ago from Cabela’s and it’s still serves me really well. That said, I’m certain you can’t buy it anywhere and it doesn’t look like anything on the market now. I will say, I’ve recently grown fond of the Sitka gear, but the price is rather frightening.
@@Lure-Benson A couple of my very first videos I put on TH-cam were of a bait station that has been taken over by brown bears. It’s amazing how big those animals are and it was a super fun experience. Fun enough I thought I would put my game camera videos on TH-cam: that’s how it all started for me.
@@RaisedinAlaska I have for so many years worn the Woolridge wool bib overalls and wool shirts so if getting wet to the skin wool keeps you warm.
I have lots of kinds of outdoor coats and rain gear.
If the days will be dry, I wear the US Military coats with the winter liners in them.
On wet days I prefer the US Navy digital blue Gortex coat.
For the new rifle for Brown bear and Yukon Moose I built the AR 10 in a 375 - 300 WSM on a Pac Nor Stainless super match barrel.
Today out shooting this AR 10 in 375 WSM I did today a 2 inch 3 shot group at 275 yards with 270 grain bullets.
What a thumper that 375 WSM is.
