I use AC on/off button a lot! You want the outside air to enter the car but you don’t want air to be cool or warm. You can’t open a window at higher speeds because it would be very loud.
Also in Europe, we are not used to blasting AC everywhere so we are more sensitive towards AC and many people quickly get sick because of AC. I usually turn on AC a bit to cool the cabin but turn it off afterwards so my gf doesn’t get sick from it. I then turn the AC off and on as the cabin temperature changes.

I have used this AC on/off button in small hatchbacks with less than 1000cc engine to find some extra power to take over a vehicle or assisting in hill climbing. Also, in some cases in manual gear vehicles it is easier to switch off the AC to get a little bit power rather than downshifting.

    Very nice review,
I live in the UK and always have it on. One reason for this is because if you don't use it at least once a month the valves can eventually stick and it won't work.
I have never heard of this car before, according to Wikipedia it has CATL LFP batteries and that makes it very interesting.

Excellent work from Geely on the Xingyuan! Lots of excellent features for the price, but interesting to see that they did not include certain essential features (rear wiper is big).
I am looking forward to Smart's new mini EV as their newly-introduced products under Geely have been fantastic thus far.

The main reason for having a physical button for the AC is to ensure functionality when the infotainment system fails. If the infotainment experiences issues, you might not be able to turn on the AC, which could make the car nearly unusable, especially in hot countries. Having a dedicated physical button provides a reliable backup to keep the vehicle comfortable in any situation.

I use the on/off AC button. I've been waiting for a real electric small car like this: small, multilink rear suspenstion , RWD with the motor placed in the rear, a good frunk, wheels placed as much as possible at the front and rear edges, allowing for a good interior space both on the front and rear seats. But I'm also waiting for a small car as efficient as the old classic hyundai ionic 28 kWh or, at least, as the Tesla M3 RWD, highway speeds included. Edited: I avoid rain sensors.

These cars are amazing. Can someone please call Mr Xi and ask him to make sure all these Chinese EVs are sold "at same price" in Europe as they sell them for in the Chinese market? If EU wants to do hillarious import taxes on them, then simply make it transparent how much of the price of the car is due to special extra VAT, while base price needs to be same as Chinese price please. Same for BYD Seagull for $9K and whatever Leapmotors does at $6K or so thank you. 👍

It's been a while since I have had a car with manual only AC controls, in the US north east, there are times when the weather is cool enough that you turn off the AC compressor and set the temperature controls low to use outside air. My newer vehicles has a climate control system, where I just set the temperature and the car controls the AC on/off setting. While I liked driving with the windows down, I began to notice dirt on the upper parts of the rear seats. For cool season, I would tilt the roof, open the passenger side rear window a bit and let the air circulate around the vehicle or just use the fresh air and turn off AC, if the car is activating it.
Nice car, I can see it possible ending up in the Smart line but, they would have to give them a new naming system. I was surprised to see how much the #1 and #3 were selling for and now the #5 is taking things a bit higher, certainly not what one expected from an affordable brand this started out as.

I rarely turn off a/c manually - if my battery is critical and then I'd expect the system to turn it off for me. I'd prefer a button that sets driver support systems to my preferred/personalised settings once the car has reset them each time to NCAP (etc) compliant settings (see Renault Scenic).

  • @sue3008
    @sue3008 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

I switch on only after starting my 12 year old car. Years ago, a lot of people thought it was bad for a car because of the load the AC compressor put on the car when trying to start. It is not a necessity for AC button now & If at anytime the aircon is not working well, can easily restart the car instead of off/on the AC button. What I lookout for when purchasing a new car is not a sunroof or wider car (nowadays cars are getting wider but parking lots are not), but a must to have rear vent which is not in all cars. Due to global warming, its very uncomfortable to be at the rear with no aircon vent. The downside - no heat pump & rear wiper.

Living in a tropical hot-and-humid region (Malaysia), I often use AC buttons (having knobs would be more functional). I also agree on the volume knob & functions. It's a shame that many Chinese cars over-rely on minimalist design (putting all functions in infotainment touchscreen "Tesla-style" or offering haptic feedback buttons). Honda & Toyota know this well but are too slow to catch up with the Chinese in the EV space.
By the way, I didn't see any EPB or auto brake hold button, hidden somewhere? More buttons on the steering wheel would be nicer too (auto cruise, lane keeping, drive mode functions). I mean, these Chinese manufacturers should understand their customers from emerging markets whose needs could be more complicated than their Western counterparts.

i have been using dedicated hardware physical, or software virtual AC on/off button to switch the AC pump off quite frequently, daily, at least once per trip where about to destination, so at least twice a day. I hate looking at the touchscreen, read, seek, aim at the on-screen virtual AC button every time I want to turn it off in the Smart #1. Virtual buttons sucks. just want to simply focus eyesight at driving and road + traffic conditions.

AC = Air Conditioning. U use AC system to condition your internal temperature to the desired. When all you need is to quickly heat up the int. temp, all you need is heat produced by your engine and you don't need cool air to balance up the air temp supplied by your ac system, thus u can turn of the AC and no cool air mixed into the supply air.
