  • In this video, artist Micah Goguen shows us how to make our own linocut stamps and print using GelPress. Linocut is a relief process that involves carving linoleum and is oh so satisfying.

    Another advantage to using the gel plate as an intermediate step is that your print ends up with the same orientation as your original lino carving rather than being a mirror image.

    You can also let the imprint from lino to gel dry on the gelplate and brayer the background on top in several runs with partial lifts creating a complex layered background and make a very unique print with every run.

      My first print was in second grade when we made a stamp by carving a raw potato! Lol

      It is pretty simple if you transfer the image to the linoleum before carving. I hope you will try it Esther!

    Hi. If you ink the gel plate first, and then apply a clean linocut stamp to the gel plate, will you end up with a “negative” - ie will the ink remain on the plate in the cut areas of the stamp?
