My grampa stood and watched everytime he got the chance to see one of these planes. He actually wanted to see them, looked in delight but broke into tears shortly after. I never understood this as a kid, so I was told something like "grampa likes how the plane looks but he has been in one of these before and he got very sick". When I was older, I learned that my grampa was one of many, many German soldiers being wounded and dragged from the frontline to be flown home with a half-torn Ju-52. He, and many of his generation, loved that plane as a sign of supplies and rescue. Yet, it evoked sad memories and trauma everytime.
Radials start up real quick compared to other old boys like the DC-3. Don't have to wait for twelve props over, just fire them up and five seconds later you're good to go. German engineering, man.

Lockheed C-5 Galaxy habe ich nahe der Landebahn der Ramstein Air-Base miterlebt, aber nichts hat mich so nachhaltig bewegt und beeindruckt wie der Start einer Ju 52! Nichts klingt so wie eine Ju 52. D-AQUI habe ich oft am Himmel über Mainz gesehen - und natürlich gehört.
I flew in one of these back in the nineties in South Africa. The pilot likened flying it to driving on black ice with bald tyres!. Great fun to be in!.

They are. Look at the blades while they are still standing still. Sometimes they seem to chenge direction in mid spin. The same effect as with Stage coach wheels in western movies. And the rolling shutter effect makes them appear banana shaped

This is a dignified airplane, which was flown by many heroes. I take my hat off in respect to the engineers and pilots.

Wow! Only the nose engine smoked a bit. When you are used to watching slow, problematic and smokey start ups, such a clean one is awsome to see!!!

Maybe not graceful lines like the Concorde or Constellation, but beautiful in the sense she was rugged and reliable, which every pilot loves
I find it difficult to take in the tiny props. Just an aberration of my brain no doubt. They obviously work well.

Bei JU-Air in Dübendorf Schweiz. Nachteil sind die Wartezeiten von fast einem Jahr. Und jetzt ist noch eine Maschine weniger, hoffnungslos

They are. Look at the blades while they are still standing still. Sometimes they seem to chenge direction in mid spin. The same effect as with Stage coach wheels in western movies. And the rolling shutter effect makes them appear banana shaped
