It took 13 years for GTA IV to achieve a stable 60fps on console (thank you uncapped framerate and Xbox One/Series X|S backwards compatibility). GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption 1 deserves a next gen remake/port and Red Dead Redemption 2 needs a remaster for next gen IMO (or at least make it 60fps, so the console players won't have to buy it again, but that will probably never happen).
This game has stayed the same, Xbox 360 version with no optimization for newer hardware whatsoever, even on an Xbox Series X it won't run as it should or look as it should l, this game really deserves a modern port, a remaster.

GTA IV was my favourite GTA of all time. The weight and feel of character movement, shooting and driving mechanics was so far ahead of its time and GTA V always felt like a step backwards. Even the ragdolls and NPC reactions were more realistic and fluidly animated, nevermind the much superior car damage model. So nice to see this game running well on the Xbox now.
Absolutely right my friend. I am playing it again right now, after playing so many games including gta 5, I still feel GTA 4 has best driving mechanics I have ever played, collisions also feel so satisfying
this so much, everything in V feels so "cheap" and "light", the weapons are the worse offenders, all weapons feels like Airsoft guns, while in IV the assault rifles actually do quite a "punch" feeling.
Even though I have a childhood nostalgia softspot for Vice City, I also think that GTA4 is by far the best game in the series. For me too it comes down to more realistic gunplay and driving physics! Also the city feels more dense and alive compared to previous iterations and even GTA5. GTA5 was quite dissapointing for me actually, it just feels like meme-filled, over the top, "saints-row" arcade sandbox with shopping cart car handling.

After many years I founded out that there is a fix for the FPS of this game just simply downgrade The Patch to V1.0.4.0 and even a Core 2 Duo Paired With a GT710 And 4GB Of DDR2 Ram Can Run The Game at same settings that of a Xbox 360 Or PS3 with almost same framerate I will soon upload I fix on my channel.
@@strayfu Literally every rockstar game does this. GTA 3 has messed up boat physics and ped dialog at 60fps. San andreas is almost unplayable at 60fps because swimming, boats, and some weapons are broken. GTA 5 is better but small things like automatic gates and railroad crossing barriers don't work over 30fps.
@J Fz I played the entire game at 60 hz/FPS on PC with Steam and never had an issue of any mission always crashing. The game does crash consistently though for no apparent reason. Maybe try reinstalling the game. I played at highest settings at 1080P

The lights on those stores were broken in patch 1.0.6.0 or 1.0.7.0 on PC. That patch also got rid of AA, got rid of the "Shadow Density" (fine control over the night shadows) and replaced it with "Night Shadows" presets. It also "broke" shadows by making them look super wavy. The reflections were also always inferior on PC, the console reflections are nice and shiny while the PC ones are barely noticeable 90% of the time.
I love GTA4, more so than any other GTA, i played the MP since 2010 all throught 2016. Niko is a great Character and also probably the Deadliest GTA Protagonist by far.

On a PC, you can enable such reflections! You just need to edit the vehicle.ide file. Or take it from the xbox 360) Just on the PC, each machine has its own unique reflection characteristics, whereas on consoles, the machines have the same reflections due to the limitation of iron(Yes, sorry for my English)))
On pc in graphic settings turn definition off. Thats how its set on console and gives the motion blur when driving fast and makes the trees and fences appear more smoothed/blurred
Don't get wrong I love GTA IV and even came back to it recently, however after many years of running this title on a core 2 duo and 2GB of ram ddr2 and a gt 9800, times have changed and my actual rig is giving me worse performance and many frames drops averaging 5 - 10 fps when it happens. I dont understand why is it but I've been playing like this for the past weeks. Sadly this game is not very well ported and unless you have the raw performance it is not unusual to see this sort of inconveniences. My PC is not amazing and perhaps that could be the problem but it's a 2008 title so very confused and disappointed. I have an i5 10400, 16gbs ram ddr4 2666 an SSD, and a "1060" 3gbs mining edition (you know the one without ports at the rear). Could be the GPU could be my CPU dunno, but awful dips for sure.
I'm starting the think the stutters are caused by the game drawing distance objects/map. Then I thought that the only serious difference between the consoles and a PC setup is that console memory is all shared with the GPU and CPU. What are your thoughts? Also I wonder if using AMD's Smart Access Memory would help with this issue, as it would allow the CPU unfettered access to the GDDR memory. 🤷🏻♂️
In general patch 1.0.4.0 offers the best compatability for Performance and Mods, better frames than the current patch, maybe you could do a comparison video, this GTA is close to my heart 2008 glory days
Theres something you forgot to turn off to make it look much more like the console version: definition. With definition off it adds effects like motion blur, depth of field, and a very blurry AA, settings that the console versions always have on.

If instead of playing the game in DirectX, you download its Vulkan api files, you could play it at max settings, no stutters, no lags. 100+FPS. I have the files for it if you need them.

RTX 2060 is almost 2 times faster than a GTX 1050, so you should get it. Also Core i5 10th gen is a major improvement over the 7th gen i5 because 7th gen i5 is a 4 core 4 thread CPU but the 10th gen i5 is a 6 core 12 thread CPU.
I am running Core i5-4590 @3.30 Ghz, 16gb of system ram and a small factor GTX 1050 2gb ddr5 and GTA IV runs flawless without any dips on high or ultra settings. Considering the core i5 is old and at least 11 years old for a CPU.

I remember getting my i7 7700k and thinking it'd be a good experience, but it was just okay for what it was. Getting my R9 5900X a few months back now gives me the experience on GTA 4 I expected with my old i5 4460. This game was good but the port was horrendous, GTA 5 legit runs better and looks better, both on older hardware and newer hardware
On PC, an excellent optimization can be had by using DXVK dlls - specifically x86 (32 bit) version of d3d9.dll included in the package. Though DXVK is mainly for Linux, it works wonders on GTA 4 Windows. The only catch is you need a Maxwell or above GPU, i.e. a GPU that supports Vulkan API.

the ps3 is the best version and i have an xbox too, the textures are better and the shadows are of higher quality, pc is the worst version, so many patches and the game was ruined trying to imitate the consoles, it's impossible for them to succeed replicate settings as in consoles, they are different systems
You can’t even finish GTA 4 on the Xbox one X because the frame rate is too high and getting on the chopper is a pain in the ass to do, it’s literally impossible! I wish there was a way I can skip it!
my laptop with i3 5005u processor, 8 gb ram ddr3 1600mhz dual channel and intel hd 500...running on an ssd, gta 4 scores around 20 fps with some slows and a little bit of lag. I think gta 5 is more playable then gta4 for me which shows just how little optimisation it has. Still, i love the music from gta 4 far more then in 5 and also the characters so i still would prefere to be able to play gta 4 :)
Do you use any mods for GTA IV? If you do then a video review of your favorite mods would be interesting. 3:03 On my PC the shopfronts are illuminated like the XBox S version, I think Project2DFX or FusionFix fixed that. Project2DFX adds some pretty lighting effects, FusionFix fixes a variety of issues. Both mods are highly recommended and have been updated for the latest patch, but Project2DFX comes with a performance hit.
Great console so ive heard it emulates lots of games. Gta 4 on pc gives me only 45-ish fps tested on x5570 12gb ddr3 1070 8Gb Everything cranked up ofcourse at 1080p. Also did an edit in the config where as it only uses 2048gb ram it can be set to 4096gb max. I enjoyed this game and also youre videos, keep on going
I was wondering if you could maybe try out Saints Row 2 on the Series S, it notoriously performs awful on PC like you showed not too long ago and I’m wondering if it performs better on the new consoles. I had a blast playing it recently and completed the story again not too long after picking the game up again :)

I hit 60 fps on PC when it was released. No clue what issues you keep going on about having with the game. They even had ENB and reshade for it to make it look real. This is the most strange series you have on your channel because I never knew of an issue with GTA IV until you posted about it.
i used to play gta iv on a laptop at 11 to 19 fps. at the time (10years ago) I even started uploading gta iv videos on youtube but nobody could imagine that watching those videos from that period

You should try it with an Intel i5 4460 16gb ddr3 and a msi gtx 970 i have the same setup and i can run gta 4 with very high graphics with more than 80 fps
GTA 4 was the first game that forced me to upgrade my PC specifically for that game. I remember my old GPU hardly could fire up the game 30 fps was just a dream back in the day for me XD
I think honestly the hardware isn't an issue it's just a mess of a port. GTA V uses the same engine as GTA IV to my understanding and that's so much better as a port. ( that's a video idea for you - GTA IV minimum specs are very close to GTA V minimum specs maybe a vid showing how unoptimized ports make a huge difference)
In terms of comparing machines GTA4 isn't the best of titles to use, the PC port of that game has always been an atrocity and isn't the xbox emulating it? Or was it ported? Nice comparison video overall though
Many people are unaware of this but pc also had broken car reflections, the xbox series s the cars have much more reflectiveness to them where as on pc even at max reflection resolution will the cars look pretty matte.
the ps3 version destroys the crappy pc version and the xbox that the graphics are on medium, on ps3 the game works at 1080p rescaled and the textures are on high, the pc port is bad an attempt to copy the version of ps3, anyone who says otherwise, I never played all versions

Hahaha, the faster load times have ruined the opportunity to appreciate the great artworks and soundtrack indeed. Btw I have, 3570K @4.4ghz 8GB DDR3 and RX 570 4GB and the game runs great at 1080p high, nigh shadows off and 50 LOD sliders. 60 FPS (capped) 95% of the time with few occasional drops to 40-45 while driving in dense areas and never once that the game freezes. So, a great experience so far. I think a strong quad core processor will do for this game. Along with 8GB of memory in dual channel mode and any GPU of about RX 570 caliber. The CPU usages are quite high at times but not near maxing out on mine, a touch over 4GB of total RAM usage and below 2GB VRAM usage.
Nice video but I'm keep wondering if a 60 FPS capping in by a mod would solve the stuttering issue in PC or will result in frame pacing problems or worse.
It won't, I'm capped to 60 by default because of my monitor but it stutters for me still. Then again, I'm running off of integrated graphics and framerate is all over the place. Some of the time it's 60fps AMD it feels great then but mostly it's within the 30s-50s. The 1% lows are when it stutters so a better GPU could fix some of that as well as dxvk which fixes a lot of the stutters.
G'day Random, I think this is a really cool video idea, testing a great older game with multiple hardware setups to see what you need to get a similar to console 30/60FPS, then people can see how much the equivalent will cost in their country, there are so many great games that will run quite well on lower performance hardware 😁 I've never owned an Xbox so just wondering if although GTA In Game Setting is set to 720p, is there a setting in the Xbox Output Settings to Upscale Output to Match Tv? kinda like DLSS 🤔
GTA IV loves a lot of cache mem. My Q9550, GTX1050 Runs it pretty smooth. The framerate change I got previously by changing from a E7500 to E8400 was unbelievable and the only real difference is he cache, even with he E7500 overclocked it couldn't catch the E8400.
At 3:30 I have noticed you have to stand real close to the store (1-2 meters) to see the store lights on PC. Draw and detail distance seem bugged when it comes to that I guess.

Fusionfix and ini tweaks are a must on PC. DXVK is also recommended. With all that tho I have no problem getting a locked 60.

On a PC, you can enable such reflections! You just need to edit the vehicle.ide file. Or take it from the xbox 360) Just on the PC, each machine has its own unique reflection characteristics, whereas on consoles, the machines have the same reflections due to the limitation of iron(Yes, sorry for my English)))
You should look into the performance and graphical mods of GTA IV, even if it's with your more modern hardware, it adds quite a bit to the experience.

On pc in graphic settings turn definition off. Thats how its set on console and gives the motion blur when driving fast and makes the trees and fences appear more smoothed/blurred
Agreed! As much as I love GTA 4, on my Xbox One S, it looks very blurry. It’s overly blurry, PC looks much nicer.
Don't get wrong I love GTA IV and even came back to it recently, however after many years of running this title on a core 2 duo and 2GB of ram ddr2 and a gt 9800, times have changed and my actual rig is giving me worse performance and many frames drops averaging 5 - 10 fps when it happens. I dont understand why is it but I've been playing like this for the past weeks.
Sadly this game is not very well ported and unless you have the raw performance it is not unusual to see this sort of inconveniences.
My PC is not amazing and perhaps that could be the problem but it's a 2008 title so very confused and disappointed. I have an i5 10400, 16gbs ram ddr4 2666 an SSD, and a "1060" 3gbs mining edition (you know the one without ports at the rear). Could be the GPU could be my CPU dunno, but awful dips for sure.
Did you try to reinstall the game? Maybe is corrupted, if not, could be the GPU, try updating the drivers.

I played it on my PC with a 1440p resolution. It was great! And definitely a blast playing through the campaign again!
I'm starting the think the stutters are caused by the game drawing distance objects/map. Then I thought that the only serious difference between the consoles and a PC setup is that console memory is all shared with the GPU and CPU. What are your thoughts?
Also I wonder if using AMD's Smart Access Memory would help with this issue, as it would allow the CPU unfettered access to the GDDR memory. 🤷🏻♂️
It's great to see my favorite GTA running so smoothly. I look forward to replaying it on the next PC I'm going to build, hopefully sometime this year.
In general patch 1.0.4.0 offers the best compatability for Performance and Mods, better frames than the current patch, maybe you could do a comparison video, this GTA is close to my heart 2008 glory days

If you’re on pc try CRYenb the difference is pretty staggering and it’s an easy install too
The game was released at a time when piss filters were popular, for some reason. You can install a mod to remove the filter,or an enb
Theres something you forgot to turn off to make it look much more like the console version: definition. With definition off it adds effects like motion blur, depth of field, and a very blurry AA, settings that the console versions always have on.
I'm running Intel i5 4570s gtx760 4gb 16gb ddr3 and stored on an hhd 7200rpm. It runs like a dream. Even before the big update last year.

You should look into DXVK and see if it reduces the stutters.

Got to pay the 559.99 price tag too as they honored the original price even though they now raised it to 629.99. This card should last me a few years hopefully as I play at 1440p.
PC IV has always had "anti aliasing" it's called Definition Off and it's exactly like PS3/360
On consoles, this algorithm is more advanced than on the PC version... On a PC, this option simply blurs the image, whereas on consoles it blurs only distant objects, and everything is clear near)

If instead of playing the game in DirectX, you download its Vulkan api files, you could play it at max settings, no stutters, no lags. 100+FPS.

RTX 2060 is almost 2 times faster than a GTX 1050, so you should get it.
Also Core i5 10th gen is a major improvement over the 7th gen i5 because 7th gen i5 is a 4 core 4 thread CPU but the 10th gen i5 is a 6 core 12 thread CPU.

I am running Core i5-4590 @3.30 Ghz, 16gb of system ram and a small factor GTX 1050 2gb ddr5 and GTA IV runs flawless without any dips on high or ultra settings. Considering the core i5 is old and at least 11 years old for a CPU.

I remember getting my i7 7700k and thinking it'd be a good experience, but it was just okay for what it was. Getting my R9 5900X a few months back now gives me the experience on GTA 4 I expected with my old i5 4460. This game was good but the port was horrendous, GTA 5 legit runs better and looks better, both on older hardware and newer hardware
On PC, an excellent optimization can be had by using DXVK dlls - specifically x86 (32 bit) version of d3d9.dll included in the package. Though DXVK is mainly for Linux, it works wonders on GTA 4 Windows. The only catch is you need a Maxwell or above GPU, i.e. a GPU that supports Vulkan API.
Back in the day i play GTA IV around 100 fps average at 1080p max settings with my old i5 2500K and a GTX 670

the ps3 is the best version and i have an xbox too, the textures are better and the shadows are of higher quality, pc is the worst version, so many patches and the game was ruined trying to imitate the consoles, it's impossible for them to succeed replicate settings as in consoles, they are different systems

Emissive texture not rendering is a bug introduced by game updates. Apply Fusion Fix to solve. Silent Patch is also recommend.

You can’t even finish GTA 4 on the Xbox one X because the frame rate is too high and getting on the chopper is a pain in the ass to do, it’s literally impossible! I wish there was a way I can skip it!
my laptop with i3 5005u processor, 8 gb ram ddr3 1600mhz dual channel and intel hd 500...running on an ssd, gta 4 scores around 20 fps with some slows and a little bit of lag. I think gta 5 is more playable then gta4 for me which shows just how little optimisation it has.
Still, i love the music from gta 4 far more then in 5 and also the characters so i still would prefere to be able to play gta 4 :)

3:03 On my PC the shopfronts are illuminated like the XBox S version, I think Project2DFX or FusionFix fixed that. Project2DFX adds some pretty lighting effects, FusionFix fixes a variety of issues.
Both mods are highly recommended and have been updated for the latest patch, but Project2DFX comes with a performance hit.

Everything cranked up ofcourse at 1080p. Also did an edit in the config where as it only uses 2048gb ram it can be set to 4096gb max.

Hah, I got the same(ish) Samsung 4K TV, Series 7 55 inch one, for 4 months now (mine is a TU7102). Couldn't be more happier with it, such a bang for the buck!
I hit 60 fps on PC when it was released. No clue what issues you keep going on about having with the game. They even had ENB and reshade for it to make it look real. This is the most strange series you have on your channel because I never knew of an issue with GTA IV until you posted about it.
I was able to play GTA4 at 4K 30fps max on a fucking rx 470. Haha No problems.
i used to play gta iv on a laptop at 11 to 19 fps. at the time (10years ago) I even started uploading gta iv videos on youtube but nobody could imagine that watching those videos from that period

I've never had a problem getting GTA IV to run well, whereas my mate has never had it run well. We have more or less the same systems, we upgrade around the same time. I just don't get how this game can be so inconsistent! lol
You should try it with an Intel i5 4460 16gb ddr3 and a msi gtx 970 i have the same setup and i can run gta 4 with very high graphics with more than 80 fps

GTA 4 was the first game that forced me to upgrade my PC specifically for that game. I remember my old GPU hardly could fire up the game 30 fps was just a dream back in the day for me XD
PC is still the best place to play GTA4. The 360 version is a blurry mess.

I think honestly the hardware isn't an issue it's just a mess of a port. GTA V uses the same engine as GTA IV to my understanding and that's so much better as a port. ( that's a video idea for you - GTA IV minimum specs are very close to GTA V minimum specs maybe a vid showing how unoptimized ports make a huge difference)
In terms of comparing machines GTA4 isn't the best of titles to use, the PC port of that game has always been an atrocity and isn't the xbox emulating it? Or was it ported? Nice comparison video overall though
Many people are unaware of this but pc also had broken car reflections, the xbox series s the cars have much more reflectiveness to them where as on pc even at max reflection resolution will the cars look pretty matte.
the ps3 version destroys the crappy pc version and the xbox that the graphics are on medium, on ps3 the game works at 1080p rescaled and the textures are on high, the pc port is bad an attempt to copy the version of ps3, anyone who says otherwise, I never played all versions

Btw I have, 3570K @4.4ghz 8GB DDR3 and RX 570 4GB and the game runs great at 1080p high, nigh shadows off and 50 LOD sliders. 60 FPS (capped) 95% of the time with few occasional drops to 40-45 while driving in dense areas and never once that the game freezes. So, a great experience so far.
I think a strong quad core processor will do for this game. Along with 8GB of memory in dual channel mode and any GPU of about RX 570 caliber. The CPU usages are quite high at times but not near maxing out on mine, a touch over 4GB of total RAM usage and below 2GB VRAM usage.
Nice video but I'm keep wondering if a 60 FPS capping in by a mod would solve the stuttering issue in PC or will result in frame pacing problems or worse.
It won't, I'm capped to 60 by default because of my monitor but it stutters for me still. Then again, I'm running off of integrated graphics and framerate is all over the place. Some of the time it's 60fps AMD it feels great then but mostly it's within the 30s-50s. The 1% lows are when it stutters so a better GPU could fix some of that as well as dxvk which fixes a lot of the stutters.

I think this is a really cool video idea, testing a great older game with multiple hardware setups to see what you need to get a similar to console 30/60FPS, then people can see how much the equivalent will cost in their country, there are so many great games that will run quite well on lower performance hardware 😁
I've never owned an Xbox so just wondering if although GTA In Game Setting is set to 720p, is there a setting in the Xbox Output Settings to Upscale Output to Match Tv? kinda like DLSS 🤔
GTA IV loves a lot of cache mem. My Q9550, GTX1050 Runs it pretty smooth. The framerate change I got previously by changing from a E7500 to E8400 was unbelievable and the only real difference is he cache, even with he E7500 overclocked it couldn't catch the E8400.

At 3:30 I have noticed you have to stand real close to the store (1-2 meters) to see the store lights on PC. Draw and detail distance seem bugged when it comes to that I guess.
