  • Watch our overview video on 2 Thessalonians, which breaks down the literary design of the book and its flow of thought. In 2 Thessalonians, Paul clarified his earlier teachings about Jesus' future return and rebukes the Christians who were disrupting the community.

Paul's second letter to the Thessalonians reassures me that whatever happens, whether or not the wicked one appears sooner or later, we all need to continue to do our work through faith in God and Jesus The Messiah.
Prophecy will unfold and the end of the world will come but worrying about it and instilling fear in the minds of the people will only bring havoc.
We're at dark times because of the pandemic but it doesn't mean that we must panic.
In the end, we have to live our lives by following Jesus and trusting in God no matter what happens; let the Holy Spirit guide our lives regardless of the coming changes in the world system.

      ISAIAH 53 - 2 THESSALONIANS
“He was oppressed and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so He opened not His mouth.” (Isaiah 53:7)
      WORDS BY: JESUS
"When I was in the garden praying as the soldiers came to arrest Me, did it look as though the enemy had the upper hand? When Judas betrayed Me for a kiss, and Peter denied Me while all My disciples fled, did it look as though the enemy had the upper hand? When I was questioned by the priests and was falsely accused, did it look as though the enemy had the upper hand? When I was beaten, whipped and scourged with many stripes, did it look as though the enemy had the upper hand? When the nails were driven into My hands and I gave My last breath on the cross, did it look as though the enemy had the upper hand? Indeed so. Everything the lawless one threatens you with are lying signs and wonders, along with unrighteous deceptions. They are given to paint you hopeless scenarios that seems real to the eye, and are even based on real life circumstances, when in fact the full truth lies hidden. That full truth is the reason I was able to open My mouth not a word and endure for the hope of the reward.
Sometimes the enemy is made to look like he has the upper hand in a situation only for My glory to be revealed afterwards. You must not judge based on what you see at the present time but your hope must always be set upon the end result. Like Thessalonians 2 states: My coming will not happen unless the great falling away happens first and the son of perdition is revealed, exalting himself above God. After he plays his little tantrum then I am able to perform. For when the temple was destroyed, the veil torn, the stone rolled away, and I resurrected, who then had the upper hand?"

Do you think that the idleness may also have been connected to the resurgence of Cynicism under the influence of Stoicism in the Roman Empire at that time? Paul encounters the Stoics in Athens; and, though they're not mentioned in the text, Cynics were in notable number in Athens and throughout the empire at that time. It's likely that any explanation is speculative, but it seems more plausible. I guess I'd have to do some leg work researching the likelihood of Cynic communities in Thess. at that time. At any rate, thanks for the viddy. Always enjoy your work.

In chapter 2 verse 3 says the following: "Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;"
    2 Thessalonians 2:3
It clearly says that Jesus return and our gathering together with Him happens after the Antichrist is revealed. So why is mainstream Christianity promoting the idea that the Rapture comes before the Antichrist appears?

@@LUX_8 Of course it does, but the prophecies in Daniel, the Olivet Discourse, Revelation, etc... were specifically for that generation of Israel and their adultery. It was the end of the Old Covenant and the beginning of the New.

@Isaac Tubirore The end of the age, not the end of the world. Dispensationalism and Futurism are dangerous Theological views.

Because the "Day of the Lord" is the end. It has nothing to do with the rapture. Why would the thessalonians think they had missed the day of the Lord? That's the end, you don't "miss" the judgment and destruction of the world. They thought they had missed the harpazo, the Rapture.

I love your work! You have a real knack at getting to the big picture and making it plain to your readers! I am a bit disappointed that you glossed over so much written material in chapter 2.
