Great reaction. I'd like to hear your reaction to Disturbed's performance of this song on Conan. Despite being ill that day, David Draiman delivered a performance for the ages, complete with an orchestra. Conan celebrated the song last year when it became the first video from his show to reach 100 million views. Keep up the great work!
I'm not much of a metal fan but his voice is just so captivating I had to listen to a few more of his songs and I found a beautiful one, HOLD ON TO MEMORIES
There are more....keep searching...listen and hear the words. Heavy metal or not every song brings an important issue to light, suicide, abuse, addiction, mental health, veterans issues. They are true artists. I'm 64 and am now a David Draima/Disturbed fan.
This was written in 1964 as an anti-war protest song, by Simon and Garfunkle. David Draiman traveled the US and Israel the first couple of decades of his life training to be a cantor, like his father and world-famous grandfather. Paul Simon (who wrote the song) liked it so much he has the live version link on his website. A member of Disturbed suggested they do a stripped-down version. When David heard his own recording in the studio, he said he fell and cried for over an hour because it brought out all the cantor training that he had forgotten about.
The True meaning...Back in the 60's...was a time of War, Discrimination, Racism, blatant fundamental Civil Rights worthlessness far worse than today. One could NOT speak out without major consequences (like being threatened of your life for speaking out.) Comedians could get away with it in sarcasm, and through music, the "messages" could not be stopped...In that time communication was very bleak with only fuzzy radio, and fuzzy tv...that's it...So when musicians (Bands) became very popular/famous and millions would hear...They became powerful and a serious threat as influential to the masses to change, by demanding equality, freedom, revealing hypocritical religions (neon God they made) etc...The population always knew music's truth...but remained silent out of fear, of retaliation, disfranchisement, so no one dared (other than fans stereotyped as hippies and Blacks that did protest and riot against the establishment for change)...Musicians (bands) were always broken up due to their mass influence, through suspected mysterious ways, from death of a featured performer, to plane crashes, overdoses etc..by breaking them up in ways equal to that of "looking like an accident"...The biggest protest amongst humanity, (in that time mind you) was the technology of people talking without speaking, and hearing without listening (the seeds planted as you slept...but one's eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light that split the night...(and your life)... removing the true sounds of silence, considered free will...People were sent to nut farms and destroyed for voicing aloud of so...Although it does fit differently today with texting...The writing on subway walls was like tenement halls in that time, it was very much like bumper stickers, or hallmark sayings...with lots of WISDOM and common sense that came from the poor and oppressed and was their only way to speak out truths in protest...In spite to stop the messages of truth in war through music...it will always survive to carry its messages that remain and echo in the wells of silence...
Nice Reaction! If this version doesn't move you, Then you might be dead.... For me music truly is the only real peace of mind... It can take you there or It can take you away! Thanks Again! Stay Safe! Cheers from Canada
Excited for this one.... Seriously this is amongst my Top5 songs ever recorded, Can't listen to it without getting chills. While you seem to be hitting this album, be sure not to miss "The Vengeful One" and the title track "Immortalized", both great tracks in their own right. Or, a couple more super powerful covers for you: "Mad World" by Gary Jules (orig. Tears for Fears) "Gone Away" by Five Finger Death Punch (orig. The Offspring) "Imagine" by A Perfect Circle (orig. John Lennon)
You asked "how can you not feel that".. If someone cannot feel it, they do not truly know how to listen and actually hear music. This song gives me goosebumps the entire time!
There are reactors, and then there are reactors who really appreciate the beauty in music, not just how it sounds, but how it’s sung, and I’m glad I found your channel, you look at music the way I do!
Lol. When this song was written by S&G back in 63. It was shortly after JFK was killed. Such a somber time and all we had was the TV. But so many songs from the time with a message go ignored. Like the eve of destruction. Or the needle and the damage done. Such powerful messages. Yes we hear but we just don't listen.
I'm glad you did the official video and not the live performance on Conan. The live performance is very good but for me the video Adds a whole other layer To the song and makes it as if it were another member of the group. Paul Simon heard this cover of the sound of silence and it brought tears to his eyes. He said that David Draiman was meant to sing this song. Have you reacted to there cover of stings if I ever lose my faith
I have a one year old granddaughter who scrolls her tablet watching cartoons. Her parents just give it to her to keep her quiet. I weeep for her. I weep for the world she will inherit. In case you want to know, we live in different states.
This song was written on Vietnam war times , by Paul Simon , where thousands of people died and American soldier , on a lie . This when Americans couldn’t take it n more dead soldier coming home on a coffin .. that’s when the artists at that time made the Woodstock , and he most iconic songs were made . The Hippie movement, “ make love not war “
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤. Desde Andalucía (España).
THE END OF THE WORLD IS THE BASIS OF THE SONG. Thank You Paul Simon . ARK is the new beginning. We don't talk we text, songs that voices never sing. Technology destroys the world, check out the background.
I don't remember the first time I heard this, which kind of sucks but I fucking love disturbed. I'm 33 I went to their concert when I was 18, I love so many of their songs. I listened to them so much when I was training for my bodybuilding show years ago and despite knowing how fucking amazing they are, I did not expect this. I mean you can know that a band sings really really well, but there's certain songs that you'd stop and say well maybe not for this song. I don't think I would have imagined in 100 years that this would have come out so beautiful. I love Simon and Garfunkel as well. My parents listened to them a lot so I've always liked them. And I just think that this song adds the emotion and I don't know I think it's better than the original. And I'm not saying that cuz I'm a huge disturb fan because I love Simon and Garfunkel and I think song is amazing as well but this is one of those cases where I just think that his voice and his emotion are perfect for this song.
The Simon and Garfunkel version comes off as wimpy coffee-house version by comparison. Brilliant lyrics, but with a folk-wimp delivery. Disturb's version begins as a somber, funereal lament for a civilization lost, but becomes a savage and timeless battle cry against the darkness of a fallen civilization. And at the end, a ray of hope. No one, and I mean no one delivers this as Draiden does. HE LIVES AND BELIEVES EVERY WORD OF WHAT HE SINGS. He sings with utter, unmistakable, muscular conviction and throws his full weight into the story and the message.
Okay. Tried but gave up on you. It's a "reaction video". It means you *watch the video and then REACT*. Not watch 20 seconds and then pause. Then another minute or so, and pause. You miss the growing energy he's trying to convey that way. In other words, you "disturbed" "The Sound Of Silence". Good luck with future endeavors.
God has a Very Strong Warning to All of us in this song & Davids voice sings it from his soul for sure.... The Words Of The Prophets Are Written .....Its OUR Responsibility to read them...
I love watching reaction videos of these soul grabbing artists…However, this cover by ‘Disturbed’ always gets stopped for reaction just as it’s building to a new level…99% of male reactors have done this so far, and I have to be honest and descriptive here…(Ladies will understand this analogy…🤍) When you’re sharing the sweet, intimate act of physical love, and you are in a rhythmic flow toward a beautiful climax…then suddenly… your 6 yo. is knocking on the bedroom door…🙄🫤 Still, I thank you for the video… 🦋Lily🦋
If you want to truly see this performed by Disturbed check out the live version on Conan; it will blow you away! David was very sick and was lying down right up until time to perform. If you notice he is seated on a stool because they feared he would pass out. He gave a flawless performance. Another song of theirs that stays from the norm is "Hold on to Memories " which is acoustic and simply beautiful.
My interpretation of this song revised: This song is written with two separate people or consciousnesses singing it. Those that are waking up and those that have been awake for a very long time. Hello, darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence Hello, darkness, my old friend is about people that have been kept in the dark and they're telling the darkness that they are experiencing something new in their vision. Music memory is stored in a different part of the brain from the rest of our memory, and seems pretty unaffected by Alzheimers, which eats up a person's memories. So, you can interact with someone who doesn't remember her own name, but you start singing a hymn she learned in church as a child and she can sing with you, word perfect. Or a song that was popular on the radio. Peter Hollens and Tim Faust (from Home Free) do a version of this song. It's not as epic as Disturb's version, but it's enjoyable, and I like it better than the Pentatonix version.
Not taking away from the singer. But the instruments add so much more to the song than the original. If you listen careful there are little interesting arrangement of notes that happen when David takes a breath so that there is no real silence.
Hey casual,as much as I 💖💖 this, the live performance on conan is just 🔥🎶🎸🔥🎶🎸🔥🎶🎸 David draiman can sing anything, he can sing anything 👍👍👍👍 Just saying it'd be awesome to see you react to more disturbed, Linkin Park & foo fighters 💖👍💖👍💖👍💖👍💖👍 3 of my favorites 🎶💖👍🎶💖👍🎶💖👍 Lotsa 💖💖💖 from 🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿
...and the stunning, beautiful artistic detail to this video! As one reactor said, "they really went all-out with the details, like his closed eyes suddenly opening at(2:55) "the vision"...
This is a masterpiece and definitely the best version of this song, even better than the original by Simon and Garfunkel.
Simon agreed
David just finally shown his talent, by connecting you with the emotions in the lyrics....if this don't hit you, you might be lacking a soul.
This version of this song is absolutely magical and his voice is so powerful 🤯
There is so much gravitas in his voice! I don't think I've ever heard a better cover.
Great reaction.

I agree, the performance of this on Conan is magic, it was one of those nights when all the pieces came together to make a transcendent experience.
Yes, people listening without hearing, and talking without speaking .it is quite profound . They're not listening still
It's a thing of beauty! Get ready for a religious experience. Moves me to my very soul!
I'm not much of a metal fan but his voice is just so captivating I had to listen to a few more of his songs and I found a beautiful one, HOLD ON TO MEMORIES

not just when it was released, but every time it's heard people are like 'HOLY SHIT' !
Enjoyed your reaction. Beautiful song . Makes me cry and get goose bumps when I hear this song
Every Time
David and his brother were trained as Cantors. He chose heavy metal and his brother sings opera, Amazing voice!
This version, is beyound words.. its all feelings

The best ever♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Other people do the song yes, David is the ONLY one given permission to cover it by Simon & Garfunkle
If you want to truly see this performed by Disturbed check out the live version on Conan; it will blow you away! David was very sick and was lying down right up until time to perform. If you notice he is seated on a stool because they feared he would pass out. He gave a flawless performance. My interpretation of this song revised:
This song is written with two separate people or consciousnesses singing
it. Those that are waking up and those that have been awake for a very
long time. The first, third and fifth verse is sung from the perspective
of the unawakened and the second and forth verse are sung from the
perspective of the awakened.
Hello, darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence
Hello, darkness, my old friend is about people that have been kept in
the dark and they're telling the darkness that they are experiencing
something new in their vision. They (the awakened/aware ones) planted
the seeds of truth/Light, and they are just starting to become aware.
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a streetlamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence
There are fewer of the awakened, and they feel as if they are alone
under the Light of truth, because they refused to by into the lies the
dark has been trying to feed them. Then one day they saw a crack in
the armor of dark, they saw a opportunity to break the sound of silence.
And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
No one dared
Disturb the sound of silence
And in that moment they saw all of the light workers/star seeds
(awakened Ones) telling
those that were still asleep the truth/Light, through telepathy
those that were sleeping heard and saw the truth/Light in a very subtle
way,
but yet they couldn't share this Light/truths with anyone for fear of
being attacked
by those that controlled the sound of silence.
They wrote the truth in songs, the truth had to be give covertly as not
to disturb the sound of silence (the dark). And when the people became
aware of the
Light/truth and realized that they had been in darkness the whole time,
it really pissed them off.
"Fools," said I, "You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you."
But my words like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence
They reached out to those still in slumber, trying to give them
Light/truths, but they wouldn't open their minds to new truths, instead
remained in the sound of silence.
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, "The words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls
And whispered in the sounds of silence."
The people were so caught up in working hard to pay for all of the
things, the boats, cars, electronics, all of the toys that they covet.
They couldn't see or hear the truth, they were too distracted by
consumerism. The awakened/prophets have been trying to tell them through
their songs and poems, and that whisper of Light/truth awakened the
people from their slumber and they became ONE. Did you notice the ship
sailing into the Light at the end of the studio version?
Everyone's heard of Down With The Sickness if you have not listened to that song by Disturbed it's a must it's a classic
I’m just here to like the “voice of an Angel or voice of a devil” comment. Go about your day.
I' listen this son about 100 times in last 2 weeks, and evry time i Feel goosbumps. Simon don't be angri of me, but this guy is better.
The best cover of all time, undisputed!
The guy singing went into a booth, recorded the song in different ways for 3 hours... then edition went on and they made a Masterpiece
Everyone cries the first time they hear disturbed singing this. Don't miss the live performance of the same song on Conan O'Brien, it's more polished and even more emotional.
The origional song takes some beating, but in my opinion this is even better. Apparently Paul Simon reached out to David after hearing this to congratulate him on the cover. Dont get much bigger praise than that if it's true
Your not human if this song doesn’t reach deep into your soul !!!!!
I've heard this song my entire life but I never really felt the words until this ...
How can we feel it when you keep stopping it ruining the ambiance and atmosphere of it
He was meant to sing this song. It's pure perfection.
Honestly it's annoying as fuck when you keep pausing respect the song and listen then give your reaction stoping after every verse not called for
Disturbed Down with the Sickness
Don't apologise for pausing
Your doing a reaction give your reaction as and when you need too
And this is the greatest ever
Version of this song
First time I heard this version
I listen to it none stop for 2 week
Lost my husband and the sound of silence is incredible.
It's crazy to think lots of people have never heard songs or bands I have known for so long
Omg I love this cover! It's absolutely top 5 covers!

You are one of my favorite reactors! So much diversity on your channel. You appreciate all genres.
