As a KSC worker, I'll miss a vibrant Space Program. Sad to see the wonderful Shuttle Orbiters retired but they served us well. Also, thanx to those that 'slipped the surly bonds of earth to touch the Face of God.' You will never be forgotten. Challenger & Columbia & crews. God Bless America............
My five year old and I wait with excitement for each of the Ascent Highlights video releases. We watched Discovery launch on its penultimate flight and feel a great kinship to this shuttle. This video really upheld our adoration for the Shuttle program and Discovery in particular. Well done!
This is a superb video. One last look at the power and intensity of the ascent, and a fine tribute to a ship that has truly changed history. I've been with her since the maiden voyage, and this final flight tugs on some heartstrings. She will be missed.
Amazing. I was an elementary student & saw every launch with a tv rolled in. I watched Neil Armstrong walk on the moon in my class. This is an example of the magic math & science bring together. Plus it brought us drama making our human experience more complete.
This is truly inspirational, it sends a wave of emotion over me I can't explain it . . awesome . . inspirational . . positively breath-taking and aw inspiring . .
In case anyone is curious the song "Victorious" is on a CD from a music company called Non Stop Music. The CD name is Premiere Action 2, Victorious is track #9. Awesome tune for an equally awesome machine. I'm glad I had the opportunity to see a shuttle launch first hand (it was Discovery), it was one of the most amazing things I have ever experienced! I wish my son could have been able to see a launch, videos just are not the same.
Wow. Growing up in the late 70s / 80s I always thought the shuttle was an also ran as I wanted to see a moon landing myself. This video really brought home what an amazing achievement the shuttle really is. I feel so sad the program is ending with no replacement
@nathar83 Tyvek covers over the maneuvering thrusters put there so rain wouldn't get inside while the vehicle is on the ground. They are designed to fall off after liftoff, the bag-like appearance is so the would catch air flowing by and peel them off the vehicle.
Hey TH-cam, thanks for ruining this video by putting an ad right in the middle of the best part. I don't care if I have to watch ads but don't destroy people's hard work. Put the ads at the beginning or end you greedy pricks.
@TheGhostOfSabotage Well said ! I've been watching the NASA TV feed on ustream since she went up, wish we'd had that for all the missions! Just wish I could get to one of the final launches.
@loadingraivis88 Some foam liberated from the PAL ramp on the ET about 3:50 into the flight. It was high enough that there wasn't a concern about it, and that lack of concern proved correct.
"We can confirm that the 747 that is vertical is in complete SPACE SHUTTLE STATUS"- airforceproud95 Just wanted to quote an airforceproud video because he does say "space shuttle "alot during the very normal FSX video involving unsalted peanuts, a hot air balloon, and the occasional 747 going "space shuttle status"
I have an AI-assisted answer from the future: cumulative relativistic time dilation from 365 days in orbit made Discovery 0.2 seconds younger than if it was unflown.

Still watch this now and then, saw her last two launches, she was amazing....hope to see Discovery at the museum soon.....

The greatest machine ever built. Only possible with American engineering.

Long live discovery!
Long live one of the best orbiters in the history of Spaceflight and all man kind

Lets hope SLS will work as planned...
Discovery, like all Space Shuttles, have contributed countless times to science and will be missed.
She’s never missed
She’s still here in a museum telling us how she dominated the shuttle program and considered as the best shuttle in human history
Exceptionnelle
Esse é o Tôpo da capacidade Humana,a Inteligência encantadora a serviço do Bem da Humanidade.
Need one of these montages for Artemis I!
Best Ascent Highlights ever!!!
Superbly, magnificently marvellous.
Thankyou. Vale Discovery.
9'17, a piece of tank foam comes off; fortunately it does not touch the wing. Remember STS-107 Columbia...
The most beautiful video on youtube!!

What's the song at 3:20
4:47 - fucking awesome!
I wonder how many seconds, minutes or hours Discovery had traveled to past (or future, don't know) due to relativity.
I have an AI-assisted answer from the future: cumulative relativistic time dilation from 365 days in orbit made Discovery 0.2 seconds younger than if it was unflown.
Bye Bye Big-D !
R.I.P
USA forever... the first power over the world... long live to the seekers.. of sciences and technologies
Mark Moore - Victorious
The Space shuttle Discovery will be misted even here in the UK! :(
Thanks NASA!!
listen to 4:50 at max volume with beats it's epic :D
@UrgentementeUK Same here man! :(

Can You be more specific? Did You mean orbital maneuvering system (OMS)?
@@placydoplacek I'm sorry. The event happens at 9:15 in this video. Something breaks off the external tank.
@@justincynor3169 That was tank insulation. But that was cleard as non critical thingy.
