    While I am quite partial to Endeavour, this was beautiful. I feel like I've lost my best friend of 30 years. Enterprise, Columbia, Challenger, Discovery, Endeavour, Atlantis...thank you for your service to this country and the world. What a great ride it's been.

    You all did a great job! This is the best video - as a USA employee my job will be over with the Shuttle Retirement like so many others, but the music, the video, it was perfect. Pulls at the heartstrings and gives us pride in our Space Program and our country! Great job everyone!

    @colinsubaru thank you.....Columbia, Challenger, Discovery, Atlantis, and Endeavour........you have showed what teamwork, hardwork, commitment, and dedication can do for a single nation's abilities and you have shown that you are the masters at space exploration. God bless all five of you. You will never be forgotten.

    Due to space research, the expectations of life have increased significantly for humans to inhabit the earth.
    Scientific discoveries, new technologies, new materials, electronics, robots, polymers, plastics, rubber, efficiencies, ways of working, ways to manage, how to avoid failures, ways to avoid mistakes, thousands, countless benefits. Thank you, NASA, thank you USA, for allowing all of humanity, achieve better our lives.

    Having retired from the space program in 1993, it makes me so sad to see this all end after all our country has derived from this program. People just have no idea what we've learned from the space program and the benefits we are now enjoying. I love these photos.

    "On the day we did not expect it to go, it went." The missions are over and all we have now is the memory and the legacy. The legacy of Atlantis for most of its career was overshadowed by the accomplishments of its sister orbiters. But she got to finally show the whole world what a truely great craft she is. It is a testiment to the men and women who worked on her that she flew on time for the last launch with no mechanical issues. Thank you to all who worked on the shuttle program!

    You can see how faded the tiles were, these machines had definitely earned their retirement. These amazing rockets will continue to inspire for years to come in both their beauty and their history. We will not let them be the last of Americas legacy in space flight, as long as there are those who refuse to be limited by gravity.

      There will be dragon 2 and BDF that will mark Americas return to human spaceflight. But even then, both America and Russia each have their own great achievements during the space race, thus both are leaders of space.

    Came back to watch this on the same day of the launch of SpaceX Crew Dragon Demonstration Mission 1 from Launch Complex 39A. Nothing can quite match the majesty of a Space Shuttle flight, but it's exciting to know that we're finally nearing the end of the US human spaceflight gap.

    • @pinkwings8036
      @pinkwings8036 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ryan19812012 there was many reasons. The remaining shuttles were over 30 years old, and the flights were becoming more expensive. With its primary goal of constructing the ISS complete, it would be better to send the shuttles into retirement so they could be preserved for ever instead of risking them to the same fates as Columbia and Challenger.

There's 80 segments left over that are within spec for flight. 80 segments is enough for the 1st 8 Artemis missions, for Artemis #9 the new BOLE' booster with its filament wound case will take over from the old STS RSRM segments.

    The 1990's NASA had no shuttle disaster.

  • @Ryan19812012
    @Ryan19812012 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    There still could be shuttle launches. If bush was elected president in 2000. But NASA was worried that another disaster could happen. 1 accident out of 100 mission could happen, but 1 accident is 1 to many. NASA was lucky to restart the shuttle program after the challenger accident.

    • @pinkwings8036
      @pinkwings8036 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ryan19812012 after challenger, it was a great loss but the main goals of the shuttles was not complete. After Colombia was lost, it was clear that the shuttles needed to retire soon. After the completion of the ISS, the shuttles would be preserved for future generations to appreciate while NASA moved forward to developing missions back to the moon or Mars. The private industries can do most of the work at lower rates than the Shuttle ever could. It was their time, and now they can be appreciated forever in museums.
