So smooth, refined and as Joe demonstrates, it is VERY quick. I have the 20 inch wheels in the Phytonic blue & looks great with the same interior. Fantastic, soooooo please with it.

I cllected my X3 m40i in Sophisto grey with cognac leather interior and M seats with adaptive suspension last week. This car is more enjoyable than my previous M5. The supension set in adaptive is fantastic . I prefer a quiet exhaust and the Idrive setting allows u to turn the sound down. The B 58 engine is excellent.
I'm a brit in Canada and have the X3 M40i too. Sounds great...I think ours are louder here. Love it...Best all rounder. Started following you recently amongst Carwow and DougdeMouro
I got a nearly new (5500 miles) 2018 M40i in July 2019. It’s my first luxury car and it’s a brilliant ride. I watched several videos when shopping for vehicles and this is probably my favorite showcasing the M40i. Also love the comparison video you did with the X3M Competition model in recent months. All around the M40i is the best of the lot in my opinion. Cheers!
There are two cars coming in 2019 that make me want to upgrade my beloved 2013 135i (manual, diff... @400hp/600nm) - Macan Turbo and X3M. Fell in love with Porsches after some track day where we drove pretty much the whole model line and it looks like X3M is going to be amazing as well with it’s M xDrive... Thank you for the great X3 M40i review Joe.
What a machine definitely the coolest suv on the market it's for the man with the big family that can't have a M140 because it's not practical enough definitely the ultimate SUV for car enthusiasts 👌
We are expecting to take delivery of ours week beginning 9th May, that has the stock 20", tech & comfort pack and pano roof, we can't wait. Our outgoing X3 35D M Sport will still be missed though!
I have X4 M40i , it's little bit more insane , wider, longer, lower (roof and roar clearance ) , aerodynamics also , 21 inches wheels , a sleeper . the sleeper must awaken .
MEGA! Nice review Joe. That is one quick (but discreet) SUV. Great sleeper if debadged. Know you were giving it a bit of a workout but what sort of MPG were you getting? Interesting to hear more external exhaust noise if you do another. 👍
MPG on Short runs (less than 15 mins) in Sport plus is about 15mpg. That improves to about 26 on longer runs. In comfort on my 1 hour commute to work on motorways am getting up to 36mpg.

To be fair from a roll the m140i would dust the x3 but doesnt mean the x3 is at all slow. Very impressive car that can do it all. Its the first suv that i actually would love to own lol. The design, the sound, performance and interior quality are all just top notch shit. Hats off to bmw for this one proper car.
The xdrive version of the m140/240 available in other countries could be quite interesting then! , granted not as exciting as rwd but brilliant for out and out grip. Would have the X3 over an sq5 , but would definitely be a toss up between X3 /marcan . As always brilliant 🎥.

Have been keeping an eye on X3M development and it’s going to be a monster, but aside from the cache of owning a proper M, I’d guess this does everything and more you need as a road vehicle. Do you know if there is any M performance parts due for the M40i X3?
That's one rapid SUV. Like you said, that engine and gearbox calibration would mean a stock M140i could seriously scare M2s. The power and torque the X3 puts out must be easily 10-20% higher than the M140i.
Enjoyed this video a lot. Agree with you re performance and handling. Awesome. My only issue when driving the 19” and 20” wheels with RFT was the very high level of “road noise” for the lack of a better term. It is speed independent and audible even at lower speeds ( 20 miles/ hr) Did you experience anything like that in the 21” inch car? Thanks!!

What's the handling really like Joe? I find the M140 to be the least stable car I've ever driven, despite its performance I wouldn't get another. If this is a better handling car in stock I might be tempted.
If the m140i dynos at circa 350bhp stock and weighs 1.5 tonne the x3 must have over 400bhp to shift 2 tonnes at a similar pace. I wonder if it has any hardware differences that can be used on the m140i.
I hate this attitude of "you have sports cars and you have SUVs" That's great if everyone can have multiple cars, but most can't. A "sporty" SUV gives someone who needs a larger car (i don't care if some gobby little Hitler thinks no one needs one) the chance to at least partially enjoy driving the bloody thing.
i picked mine up a month ago and done 2k miles. it is a lovely car, v fast and refined. but compared to my x3 35d it leaves me slightly disappointed. these long revving petrl cars, whilst faster to xx speeds, for me are less fun to drive. the 35d engine has so much punch and relentless torque it is more suited to modern day roads. the new 2019 car, whilst actually lighter, feels heavier and less engaging. if i could add the tech to my old 2016 car i would have not changed cars. compared to the c43 and sq5 the m40i is the better car to drive but x3 35d was the most satisfying suv i have driven
Gary Sandhu unfortunately nothing to compare.... drive both and you will notice how slow and lacking the sq5 is now. It feels like a full second slower to 100.
I have test driven both. The Audi has firmer suspension and felt more car sports car like in cornering but the BMW has heavier steering softer suspension and did not appear to rev as hard. The BMW offers the best mix between sporty and comfort handing.
Sadly the suspension is extremely stiff and if there are any undulations in the road the car literally bounces. If the roads are at all rough then it is uncomfortable as an every day driver.
Sorry guys but you race to what 60mph? I know You have no condisions for that on the public roads in UK but the real race would be like 30-100mph to see the diference ( in all cars not just these once ) :) P.S. I have a x3 M40d , the interesting race would be M40i vs M40d 0-160mph and rolling race....from m40d you can have 400hp by chip tuning:)

My wife just got a 2020 Xm40i. It really is impressive for a SAV. The pick up is incredible. Handling is pretty good it’s a great car for a family.

m140i is more then practical enough SUV is just for people who can afford a bigger car but the 140i has plenty of room for a familie for daily use

I had the 2018 X3 30i msport with 20 inch wheels and just changed to the M40i with 21 inch and the difference is barely noticeable.

My predicament is to buy one of these or a 2017 or 18 M3. Definitely more family oriented but the M3 still has four doors.

Probably not. Off the line the 4wd counters the inferior power to weight ratio then when it gets going the M140i pulls away, as it shows in the video.

They didn't de tune the 140, it came out 18 months ago, since then they have now squeezed more power from the B58
