    I love the small cartridges. I would collect all of them.

  • @LazyBunnyKiera
    @LazyBunnyKiera 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    With the new pi zero W, this just gets even better.
    Probably enough room for 2x micro USB ports on the front, using 30 awg kynar mod wire. And usb controllers can use OTG adapters easily.

    yo those mini cartridges actually working really impressed me, i ve seen alot of raspberry pis in console casings but actual working cartridges!? thats awesome

    I think it would be pretty cool if you made a raspberry pi game boy with a functional cartridge slot! Awesome work man.

      +Time Waster Digital really

    • @Hack3r91
      @Hack3r91 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, that's quite amazing. The modder actually used the original gameboy cartridge slot, soldered the slot pins to the microSD pins of the Raspberry Pi Zero and soldered an actual microSD adapter into a custom cartridge.

      @ytisnottwitter 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually I believe he used NFC to do it, contrary to his last video on an Raspberry Pi NES console. He just put NFC tags in the cards that made the console run whatever game the tag told it to run, and could manipulate the tag using his phone.

      There's already a fantastic Mini R.O.B model on Thingiverse here: www.thingiverse.com/thing:1494964

    Thats dope man! Do you own your 3D printer? or do you get the shell printed for you by someone? I make retro videos on my channel, really might consider ordering a kit, then getting my mate to print the housing. I would like to do an in-depth review!

  • @Snedd99
    @Snedd99 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    They both look absolutely fantastic - great attention to detail.
    Not sure if you're aware of it, but there's a great controller that you could use with these builds - the NES30. I've got one and they're great for NES/SNES games (also Bluetooth so would connect just fine).

  • @eliblessed
    @eliblessed 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Here is an idea. put the USB ports for the controllers in the 'lid' part where the games would have gone in the original system. it seems as though that space is being wasted, so that might be an interesting way to use it

  • @Orvis25
    @Orvis25 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Question,
    1) Will this case work/fit with the pi zero W model (Wireless)?
    2) does it have room for a heat-sink if I cut out/dont install the cartrage functionality?
    3) What switches/buttons did you use on the case to power on/restart the pi?
    Cheers!

    • @emralcrewrblox
      @emralcrewrblox 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It will work with the W, it's the same size.

    Wow! The mini-er really takes my fancy lol. Just wondering weather Lakka would be a better option here. Retropie is awsome but Lakka does seem o boot into games a little quicker on the zero.
    Also 8bitdo do bluetooth nes style controllers. Might be worth a look. Great video by the way.

    mike regarding your normal size NES 3d printed shell, are the files you released easy enough to alter?. As i would like to mkae my 3d printed case slightly larger than your model, obviosuly id need to keep the hdmi and micro usb section of the case at the same scale however?

  • @spiritualastralsoul
    @spiritualastralsoul 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Excellent work yet again, love it. Just wondering though does the Wii Pro Controller have any input lag? I found using the Pi 3 with an 8bitdo SNES30 generated a little lag although I was using analogue audio and had my TV set to game mode. I do all my emulation on Retroarch via a Intel NUC 5th gen i3 system and it works lovely with Dualshock 4 controllers. Do you reckon it would be possible to design a NES case for the Intel NUC albeit multiple versions? lol

    • @daftmike
      @daftmike  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure about the lag. I don't notice any, but tbh I don't play too seriously and might just not be sensitive to it.
      If the Intel NUCs weren't 10x the price of a Raspberry Pi I might design a case for it lol.

    • @spiritualastralsoul
      @spiritualastralsoul 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I guess I am a little too serious when it comes to emulation, lol. I fully understand the price cost of the NUC also not being a popular option for most people. Raspberry Pi's are amazing what they can do and cost so little also. Once again great work which puts Nintendo's new NES mini to shame (In my opinion).

      @amaillo 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      @spiritualastralsoul I'm agree with your opinion!

    couldnt you just power it on with the power button itself instead of the reset button? Like a long press for power then a touch for the game? and year reset for an actual reset of the game if not an escape to the menu of games in ES.

  • @random11
    @random11 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    how did you deal with power? In the mini one you said you were adding a new micro usb port for power. But both in your original mini and now in this mini(er) case you use the micro usb port from the pi itself and still have a proper boot up sequence.

    • @daftmike
      @daftmike  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my first build I intercepted the power coming in from the micro usb port and controlled it with the arduino and a high-side mosfet switch.
      In this build I don't control the power at all, the arduino just holds the Raspberry Pi's reset line low when I want it to be 'off' and allows it to go high when I want it to turn on. Kind of a virtual power switch really.
