Beautiful episode! The sailing and motoring is enjoyable, and the going is actually smooth, as far as i can see. I know that the motor, the breaking down parts, etc. must be a pain... and taking care of all that is part of the job, to be part of this amazing lifestyle. Keeping it light as you both do, in documenting your journey, as it is obvious that both of you are the most positive thing happening on this nice vessel!
Thank you so much for your comment ! Yes we sure had some beautiful, pristine days out on the water - we loved it ! I’m sure we will get used to the breaking down part soon enough lol. Just sucks right now. Thanks for watching!
wait until you get to Beaufort, NC. the water yet again changes color to the beautiful blue of the area..a great stopping place. We went out to Cape Lookout for a couple days and anchored in the bight there.. the trip down ches. bay is a trip of colors..the green of the bay to the dark color of the elizabeth river and below through the locks from the leaves tannen to the NC sounds sort of mahogany or golden color, through the S's below Coinjock where it looks like just the masts are weaving south then Albemarle sound and into the Neuse River eventually and past the rest where you see shrimp boats working. You are headed for a great trip.
You should see my Catalina 30's engine. Every bolt snaps off when I try to take something off. I think it has been under water and a large number of fasteners are seized in place. The exhaust looks fine, but all the rubber hoses everywhere need to be replaced. I'll be working on that engine for weeks.
Eek ! Always something to work on right ? So hard to keep up with it all. We are learning just one step at a time, and maybe eventually you’ll only be 3 steps behind 😂😂😂
Breathe Deep. Procure tomatoes. Slice to preferred thickness. Sprinkle seasoning from green container over slices. Fry eggs, season with tobasco. For health conscience add a little orange juice to large glass of vodka. Enjoy. After nap fix boat. Life Is Good.
Lol love this recipe !!! Yup it’s a good reminder to just chill and it’ll all work out. But in the moment it’s quite difficult as I’m sure you can understand. Also so expensive 👎👎👎
Nice environment and glad to see you're making progress. I just came back from Guatemala taking over ownership of an HR 352 :) Love the boat. Unfortunate that you're having engine problems, but great that you got "rescued!" I'm set to convert to fully electric in a couple of years or so. Limited range but should be less disruptions. Anyway, looking forward to your adventure! Cheers!
Sweet ! Yeah that would be a great idea. We may do that sometime in the future too, but we think the technology needs to get a bit better before we take the plunge. Good on you !
I've driven 1 1/2 hrs (one way) a number of times over many years to have prime rib at the Coinjock Marina. Worth the stop if you happen to be cruising by.
@@sailingjoco which is why you should be out in the ocean. You have a wonderful blue water SAIL boat, yet you choose to "sail" it in a place where you must motor for days on end. I don't get it.
Perhaps TH-cam gives a false sense of reality , with other vloggers just ‘winging it’ and going. That may be fine for some, but everyone’s risk tolerance is different and we choose to be on the safe side. More power to ya if you want to just go ! But that’s not us :) We need to learn the basics first. Our lives are at stake after all ?!?!
@@sailingjoco I am new to your channel and didn't realize you guys were such greenhorns. I understand your not heading off to Norway right now, but you should be good with following the coast and maybe tucking in at night to anchor. Anyway, at least you folks are out there doing it, which is more than us Josh Slocum wannabes sitting behind our laptops are doing. Good luck!
Haha no worries ! If the weather is good, then yup that’s an option for sure , but this voyaging in winter is pretty tricky, lots of storms. Better to just motor along to make miles towards better weather and sail when we can. Plenty of time to shake out those big white things we paid a pretty penny for ;-) Thanks for watching!
crossed the shallow, open Albemarle sound on five trips so ten crossings and on bad days it is often the absolute worst part of the ICW...you were extremely lucky...
We read about that in the waterway guidebook! While it would have been nice to sail across, it was still pretty relaxing to motor. The water was like glass!
@@sailingjoco we owned a citation 35 sailboat for years and years and more than once across Albemarle Sound we had white water over the bow and it was anything but enjoyable. Shallow, open fetch and nasty winds make is a pretty long and sometimes nervous crossing. It was not fun those times..getting through the alligator river bridge going south was always a hallmark.
There is only one bridge that is 64 feet on the ICW. The rest are 65 feet. Remember "It's the journey, not the Destination!" You are creating life time stories now and will be meeting some really interesting people you normally wouldn't meet if you just kept motoring along without any problems. You have been lucky with the weather being calm, the wind was blowing so hard on the alligator river when I went through, the swing bridge wouldn't open up until it was under 35 mph. Cell phone coverage sucks where you are because it is all farm and swamp land. What marina did they take you guys to?
You are so right! We are slowly learning to take some Time and enjoy the journey also. And yes we have met many great people along the way. Great reminder to keep positive! Thanks for watching :) (we’ve been towed to river forest marina)
@@sailingjoco I found when you are on a journey like the one you guys are on now, people come into your life for a reason. You just have to question what that reason is. I learned a lot from the people I met during my journey down the ICW. Also having a keg of RUM along with you always helps too.
oh that must be so hard! You are two smart capable people.. You'll get it fixed! Maybe make it fun again then work on the fix? Dance.. go to a movie.. pet a puppy.. shake your fist at the sky and scream.. go fishing..
Hahaha love all your recommendations! Hopefully we get these kinks worked out sooner than later so we can just get going and enjoy more of the sailing part.
Is that insolated backstay cable you have in this shot? th-cam.com/video/kasROf5GvIk/w-d-xo.html I'm wondering why Ocean going boaters only use VHF way out in the middle of nowhere on an Ocean. I see the benefit of HF on the high seas
It’s a courtesy flag as they are traveling in the US as they have a Canadian flagged vessel. If they were in Spain’s waters they would fly a Spain 🇪🇸 courtesy flag. Hope this helps.

If you can't sleep at night, don't count sheep, count bridges. 😂😂.Stay positive and above all, keep a good mood, everything will be fine.👍💪💪
Haha that’s a good one !! Thanks for the encouragement, we can do this we can do this !

Oh wow ! Yeah we aren’t big meat eaters so while it sounds pretty popular, not really for us haha.
You know….the motor is the secondary means of propulsion on that boat! ;-)
Yes we know. Correct , lol. However you can’t sail down the icw in narrow canals 🧐 That would be nice but just doesn’t work that way

Sounds like we dodged a bullet then ! (However we did plan to cross in the mildest conditions we could find in the few days’ forecast lol)
Lord too many bridges

Yup ! Great, thanks for the reply Troy :)
You bought a beat up and sadly neglected HR - why drag the make down ? Just admit you bought a pup and focus on the positives . . .
Just documenting our experiences! Can’t help this is the way it’s going. Thanks for watching
