Yup we’ll do that ! And counter sink. Jeff has a diy system in mind to not go too deep down 👌 (otherwise we’d have to buy a kinda expensive bit and have it shipped in)
Wow someone has nice hair! I’m definitely in favor of taking off the teak deck. You will need a big dumpster and it will take a lot of trips to get the wood off the boat.
Q and As are always interesting, as people have tons of questions regarding your history, boats, destinations, favourite tools and gear, places you'd recommend etc. Conversely, it's useful to give advice on what bugged you about places and how to avoid it, stuff you bought but don't use or need, things you like about the boat and what improvements would make it better, would you have bought it again or looked at something larger(for solar and battery storage) and newer? Plus, it's a great way to make a video if the weather is crappy!
I have an HR 43 - and I hate teak - my wife likes it - it is hot- it makes the boat hot- HRs are badly insulated - it is a pain - it looks good but thats it.. so well done - you will be so happy with a clean white deck
Thank you for doing this, so I can learn from your mistakes. That is, if you happen to make any mistakes. I don't get that nonsense HR people are saying about teak deck being a must have. Sure, since 1977 and HR38 almost every Rassy has had teak deck. But as you say, I too bought mine because of the "quality", layout, potential, affordability, suitability to be equipped with hard dodger. The only positive feature of teak deck was that it lowered the value of the boat. I think Rassy himself said something like that the teak deck is not an issue, because the first owner does not have to suffer the downsides/consequences. Emilea, hull n:o 11 Other HR352 teak deck removals on YT: Abandon Comfort (they did pretty much nothing to the deck underneath) A boat called Wanda (traumatized us all)
Oh I’m sure we’ve made , and will be making , our fair share of ‘mistakes’ , but nothing that can’t be rectified! Hope you’ll stick around for the project, the first video was just posted this morning! And yup we know about those two channels - and yeah Wanda’s is terrifying lol!! We’re hoping to show a middle ground between the two (AC didn’t do anything really to their deck below the teak and didn’t show too much too closely)
Yeah I know they did it like that back then . Terrible ! Just wondered incase they had been one once before . I have done teak decks on 80s boats before . Good luck it’s an awful job . But doable . Hopefully you don’t have to remove too much of the glass underneath due to saturated core .
Right !! It’s lookin so old ! It woulda been beautiful in the early years but can’t get away from how how it is either. Hoping it’ll be cooler down below once it’s gone!
I love the comparison of the timelines…we do the same thing! 😅
Haha !! Usually I’m more hopeful and pick the shorter timeline but in this case I decided the opposite ! We were both pretty off tho 😂😂😂
Run a small drill into all the screw holes but not deep!!!this cleans the holes for filling with epoxy or whatever you decide

Thanks for noticing ! Jeff cleans up pretty well doesn’t he ? 😉😉

These are great ideas thanks much !! I have written down your suggestions , stay tuned :)
Kiwi grip looks good and is cost effective....maybe look into using EVA foam decking in some areas to retain the original look?
When everything for a boat costs at least triple, we gotta stick to a budget somewhere !
We know a few people who have it also and they like it 👌👌
Ha! Two to four months. That made me laugh. Hopefully see y'all this season on the way up the chain.
Lolololol
How naive we were at time of filming ;-)
I think you need to put a canon on your boat so you can fire salutes when you enter and leave ports. 🙂 (jk)
lol what !!!!

These are all very good points and we agree with all of them!
Thanks for watching and hope you enjoy the next videos comin up!

Are the decks screwed down ? There will be core issues.
Yes yes ! That’s how they did it back in the day. We’ll be heading straight into it in the next episode and show you!

We’ve definitely found some surprises so far 😳😳😳
Oooooo I hope it’s not to bad , tough working in the hot sun , I hope you put up an awning.
Almost unbearable !!
Wish you were doing this video in a rubber ring floating in a pool with a ti punch 😂
Lolol ! That would make a very clickable thumbnail for sure !!! 😂😂🍹
That old teak decking has gotta go!
