    Great to see you took the time to get some appropriate gear. You need to consider that if this is now your job, you need the proper equipment.

    You are a filmmaker at heart. The intricacies. The trial and errors. The wasted money. The hours of tinkering. The frustration. Keep it up! I didn't have any issues with your videos as of yet. Everything is just a +.

    Eric I've been following you since close to the beginning and I am CONTINUALLY IMPRESSED by your commitment to craft! Your videos improve with time, which is also amazing since your initial efforts were very good. And the fact that you are secure enough in yourself that you show everyone "how you do it". Fortunately, the halcyon days of proprietary living are fading fast, due in part to you and yours. Very pleasurable AND I learned a LOT.
    Thanks for sharing...

  • @thenomadicham5329

    Wow. This is the best video you have made in my opinion. One of the main reasons I have watched your channel is to see how well the GoPro works out. I had thought about a video camera like the Vixia myself and now you have validated my original thought of what system to use. The shotgun mic is great. You now look like a professional with the new camera system. I can't wait to see future videos with it. This is the first time I am giving you 3 likes. Well deserved. I am wondering though how well it will do with close ups. Let's say you are looking at a drawing, petroglyphs and such and you want to get up real close like 1/2 inch or so. How well does the focus work, have you tried that?Have you experimented with digital filters such as a polarizing filter to enable views into water or glass. I have been reading up on digital filters and have experimented with doing videos using my old filters for my film camera.

  • @ray_biker7406
    @ray_biker7406 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I'm not a professional at this by any means. In my opinion the GoPro looked somewhat crisper, with better saturated colors.
    GoPro also had a wider angle lens than the Canon. It's probably no big deal while filming outside but you may need to consider using the GoPro for filming inside the motorhome. It will make it look more spacious.
    I have not seen enough of the walking motion videos with the video with Canon but it was noticeably shaky. What really made your videos stand out and differ from majority of other TH-cam fideos was the smooth, gyro-stabilized filming. I really liked it.
    Again, this is just my opinion.

    I was at walmart a couple weeks ago and bought the vixia h600 for 70 dollars, Love it does not have the shoe. so I cant add the mic that way but will try to get the lens. it looks awesome I hate the time lapse on the gopro. I have to convert it to use it and the timelapse on the vixia I can use it without converting it, so much easier I bought a couple sj4000 knockoffs for 17 dollars each and great at setting up multiple angles for scrapping RV's since I cannot go back and reshoot it thanks for sharing have a great day

    l like the way you concisely and clearly explain all of these details to us. The final shot without the distortion on each side of the frame is really a huge improvement. The camera and microphone setup looks very clunky so I hope you do not develop any problems in your shoulder, elbow or forearm from holding the extra weight. In any case, it's all good information and your videos ate always informative and entertaining!

    Wide angel looks so much better when close up...This inside the RV video looks and sounds so much better then the video about your new chair from a few days ago. I have enjoyed watching the evolution of your filming over the years...I think the GoPro's with stabilizers and microphone helped improve your video quality and helped your channel grow. That being said I am glad to see you finding ways to make your work/life balance better...you have to enjoy what you are doing to do it well.

  • @Jollyprez
    @Jollyprez 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Excellent info! Shows everybody how much work goes into everything. I've always said, "You can't replace glass" - meaning the LENS on the camera is the most important thing. And, there's a reason Canon is revered, and why that lens is expensive. BUT, a "light" wide angle ( equivalent to 35mm lens on a 35mm SLR camera ) is, in my opinion, the best all-purpose lens for this kind of work. And that microphone is doing an excellent job.

    Eric, you turned me on to videoing(just starting). I went the cheap route and bought a Geek Pro which does most of the same things as a Go Pro but way less the price. I got the Feiyu gimble and the handle extensions. I too didn't want to have wind ruin a video so I made my own wind screen to go over the mic holes. I use a felt furniture pad, drilled a hole for the mic holes, trimmed the pad to fit and stuck it on. Works like a charm. Hardly noticeable and if it comes off, just stick it back on, I made a dozen to keep in my bag. I understand you want to have better audio and it IS better with the Vixia and the external mic but you're going to have to do something to better stabilize the shots. The gimble is a spoiler isn't it? Been following you posts for a couple years and now have gotten my wife to watching! Keep up the good work.

  • @Seegalgalguntijak
    @Seegalgalguntijak 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Eric, I appreciate you making continuous improvements on your video quality! This new setup looks and sounds really nice (although when filming from only an arms length away, the mic is almost too base-y and maybe you'll find a way to gain that down and/or normalize it). I really like your videos, and your positive attitude. And as a special bonus point I say thank you very much for not editing the videos in 60fps! Because I watch them all in 720p (more makes no sense on a 1600x900 pixel screen), but when I watch a 720p60fps video, my Computer heats up to about 85°C (that's about 185°F!), which is still within its specified temp range, but rather high, while when watching a normal 720p video at 30fps, it stays around rather cool 60°C (about 140°F), which is much less concerning. So thank you for not taking the (in my opinion unnecessary) step to 60fps and thus giving my 2011 Lenovo Thinkpad another couple of years of good life (I only buy these machines used, because they are in a rather high price range)! :-) Be safe and I am looking forward to many more great videos from you about the American culture, and the things about it that we don't get to know anything about over here in Europe!
