Can’t wait to get mine, due June. Pretty awesome economy for a big 4WD with a V8. And I think you have 35 inch tyres which probably hurt the economy a bit. P.S Please give us a bit more of your quality drone filming of the landscape and things like that silos, that’s one the attractions of your channel.
@@obs2746 Thanks for the🙏 feedback! We are only running 33's! And yes there will be plenty of content coming now we have our caravan! Glad you appreciate the quality!
Love it . From always swapping out 4s & 6s for V 8s Starting from the late 70s to the 90s, till maturity caught up, (4x4 bottomless pit had a bottom) then Tojo delivered their 8. But when The Patrol dropped in with their 8 ..... I love my wife And our Pajero ....BUT .... that 4x4 kid came back.????? When your first 4b is a 3 speed crash box G60, one can only drool and admire the V8 Y62. As OBS said....Gotta have one. Again, thanks a million for sharing. love it.
Yes fuel economy will be slightly higher than an equivalent diesel, but where you save is cheaper maintenance costs that are also less frequent. My only economy tip I'd say is minimise the amount of stuff you put on the roof and don't get monster tyres. The most important thing is you get out their and explore the country.
Honestly guys That’s fantastic. I drive a Burra powered Territory Cairns to Adelaide every Christmas, & I average mid 12litbper 100kms. Your doing really well
We have an Infinity QX 80 with the 5.6l V8. Hiway gets 11-12l/100km (low 20-21 mpg). But in town it get about 30l/100km (8 mpg). Great millage on the long trips for a full size, but among the worst when in town. For comparison, I have had Sequioa, Chev, Ford, and Dodge full-size trucks with all varieties of engines in them. Best for mileage are the small diesels, and the Chev/GM 5.7l v8. Ecoboost can also be very good provided you never tow or run it hard.
Hmm, thats actually very close to what i get, going to or from Adelaide to Cairns going through Eromanga etc in my LX470. All loaded up with gear plus bullbar, lights etc etc. no roofrack! 13.5 to 15.5 depending on headwind on the flats, that can be horrendous sometimes.
Well Done. Gratefully appreciated and enjoyed. Last time down that way was xmas 1989 driving back from Perth for the final time, (Fruited out Tojo with to many clicks) back home to Gold Coast. (Before FI/FO was the norm)Your Journey assisted our planned South Australia trip mid 2022 from Brissy. Planned vehical - Nissan Patrol. Thanks. Nio P
Hi guys an accurate real world test..when you have V8 weighing close to 3 ton and as aero dynamic as a house brick 12 -14 close to the mark. Recently coming up the Birdsville Track towing a 2.5 ton caravan with howling head wind with LC 200 22 litre per hundred ouch ... got to love V8s though!!
Good tip if you aren't planning on getting an engine/gearbox tune: get a throttle controller. Best $200 I've spent on my 2020 TiL. The factory accelerator pedal tune is obviously designed with economy in mind. But it makes the vehicle feel sluggish unless you really stick the boot in because it wants to hold taller gears and change up very quickly. The throttle controller essentially modulates where your boot is. Once you get used to it you will never switch off, unless doing tough off road tracks where you don't need the power.
Nice work we went petrol over diesel and got a new y62 til last year 2022 All Factory not towing just a 4” exhaust and throttle controller we are getting 11.5km / litre 3 of us and gear
I dont know why but, i get approx 22l/100km or 4.5km/l which i seem is ridiculous. Its a 2013 y62 v8 320hp with a 5 speed transmission. Its a great drive, i only wish i could get better mileage.
Just for companion from the most fuel efficient option - 2017 Toyota Prius can do 1,700 km on just two tanks. 43 litre fuel tank gives about 950 km range. Average hwy driving is about 3.8 l/100km
Yeah I dont think the prius has the power of the Y62, or the size / weight comparison, so for being such a large powerful vehicle I think she goes alright!
@@wosamosman9814Everyone talks about EV vehicles and the cost of batteries. That isn't the whole story. We in addition to full size 4wd own a 2009 Prius ITech since new. About 290000k. Main battery is still original replacement cost is a bit over $2000 from Toyota. Last year inverter failed. Replacement cost at Toyota was $5000. The main battery is still fine. If you compare service costs to 4wd then 4wd costs more. But Prius cannot haul a 4wd load. So yes it's economical but it is potentially much more expensive in some areas. At least if you buy a Nissan or a Toyota these are proven companies with good track records. I would never touch a Tesla or most other EV vehicles.
Love my Y62! They are really pretty good on long touring trips I have gotten as low as 12.5 LPH. Driving around town day to day as my daily driver it’s a different story, they are horrendous anywhere from 18LPH-21LPH. But we don’t buy these cars for their economy.
Still good for a V8 4WD. I just sold my 4.8 GU (pending my new Y62). which averaged 18 litres per 100 combined and about 26-28 L per 100 towing a caravan. And the y62 is an awesome vehicle
@@FoxtailAdventure it’s good for towing mine don’t like Caltex 98 . I get worse fule economy .bp 98 is good 👍 I’m using Mobil 1 95 octane it’s giving me same fule economy . Only one time I got 12L 100 kilometres that’s with factory tyre now patrol have maxxis razr AT
it is simple physics. if you want to move a 3t car, 10ish petrol need to be burnt no matter v4 v6 or v8. actually v8 could be better and v4 would be struggle
What do you think of the petrol V8 Y62?

I think this is much better than the top competitor
Pity Nissan doesn't make diesel variant

It'll be interesting to see the towing figures once the van is hooked up

Just travelled through central aus and petrol was almost 50 cents per litre cheaper than diesel. So a big petrol is a no brainer.

Plus with hybrids once the battery hits 8 years or more you need to budget for replacement which could cost thousands
