Many words in French and English look alike. They’re useful - you can quickly understand or use them and voilà! You’re bilingual! But watch out because some of these pairings are faux amis-false cognates: they sound similar, but they mean totally different things.
A french language learner can easily make these mistakes so be careful, or you might accidentally insult someone without knowing it.
Let’s prevent that.

Probably the worst mistake I made using French was when I first started studying the language. I went a french pancake stall worker and asked (In French) "Utilisez-vous des préservatifs en vos crêpes?" The poor woman looked at me; I then learned to use "conservateur" instead. Haha

Excited, is to be eager, or anxious but in a positive way
In French excité has a more sexual connotation.
So don't make that mistake or you'll come across to your French friends as a real perv.

eventually = finalement
éventuellement = Possibly
actually = réellement
actuellement = currently
"Jean Bon" sounds like "Jambon" wich means "ham" in English. For those who didn't get it ;)
Yeah, I guess ''James Bond'' is some kind of ham too lol :)
We also say Jambon in Farsi when we refer to beef preserved dry meat !

i understand that "formidable" means "wonderful" in french while in English the definition is closer to "daunting"
Oddly enough, "awesome" (as used to mean "wonderful" in English) is the same - in English the definition is closer to "daunting" too ;) ["awe" and "wonder" are quite similar]

J'étudie l'français à l'université, et dans ma premiere semestre j'ai appris les mots "Actuellement" qui signifie "Currently" en anglais, et non pas "Actually". Aussi, dans la classe d'orale on a appris "le raisin" qui signifie "grape" et non pas le mot anglais "raisin", qui est "le raisin-sec".. J'espère que mon français était bon!

Salut Geraldine. J'ai fait un marathon de videos de « comme une françaises » aujourd'hui. Je pense pendant deux heures, au moins. En un tu as parlé à propos le mot; spéciale. Apres de regardant pendant pour plus de deux heures, ce mot peut-être est convenable. Cependant, le revue était fantastique et je le recommend. J'ai oublier quelque de que j'avais appris. Les temp était bien dépensé et très très utile. Merci !
this is a very common verb but some people mistake "regarder" as a verb "to regard (something or someone" when it means "to look".

Quant aux faux amis, on
peut citer primitivement en français et primitively en anglais.
Par exemple dans la phrase suivante:
Cette voiture était primitivement rouge, mais j'ai l'ai repeinte en bleu ciel.
On ne peut pas traduire "primitivement" par "primitively". C'est-à-dire,
my car was "originally" red before the paint job--not primitively red.😄

Some small correction on "false friends" or "friends". Such words (les mots-amis) are called cognates. We have true cognates translated as "les vrais-amis", false cognates as "les faux-amis" and semi-false cognates as "les vrais-faux amis".

I guess you should just listen to more French. Everyone's brain is capable of imitating sounds instinctively. You don't have to train mechanically, just listen carefully so that your brain gets the exact sound.
I'm no expert but I think people should speak a bit less and listen to a lot more.

According to me, the question would be "Quelle est la traduction en français de ..."
'Spectacular" generaly means "really impressive" both positive and negative senses. "It was a spectacular movie", "That was a spectacular train crash". Does "spectaculaire" carry this sense too? or only "dramatic" in French?
Something "spectaculaire" is something that is crazy, impressive, something that you'll remember. I think this have quite the same sense in english. But in France the world "spectaculaire" came from the world "un spectale" (that mean : a show). I think "spectaculaire" is mostly has positve sense because it's quite a show when you see it (but it sometimes have a negative sense or a neutral sense). A pair of faux amis I've run into a fair number of times are the French "emphase" and the English "emphasis".
En Néerlandais on utilise le mot "spectaculaire" pour indiquer que quelque chose était très passionant, donc le dernier exemple me semblait un peu chelou lol

étranger means foreign, étrange means strange, it doesnt have a negative connotation, but if you say "tu es étrange", it can seem rude :p. you can say "bizarre" too, its a bit informal :).

I didn't understand much about les surnoms, can you please make a video talking about it?
They are just nicknames. The reason she started talking about the Middle Ages is because that's how surnames came to exist - from nicknames passed down to next generations. So "surnom" = nickname, while "nom"/"nom de famille" = surname.

In english, the most important word is the name. Basically, you have a name ; a word after the name : the surname ; and a specific word after the surname used to describe yourself : the nickname.
In french, the main word is the surname (or family name), called "Nom". You have a word before : "le prénom" (litteraly before the surname) and a specific word after used to describe yourself : "le surnom" (litteraly after the surname).
For exemple :
Peter Bigfoot, knows as "Handly" : Peter (name), Bigfoot (surname), Handly (nickname).
Pierre Grand-Pied, connu comme "Coup de Main" : Pierre (prénom), Grand-Pied (nom), Coup de Main (surnom).

Eh ben il va falloir apprendre à l'utiliser dans ce cas, on l'utilise assez souvent.
Il fallut, il fallait, il faudrait, il faut, il faudra, ...
"il va falloir" means "we will have to" :)

okay but first of all, im not a french teacher, so it might be difficult for me to make u understand really well:
first of all, its not the "il" that means "he" in english. "il pleut" mean "it rains".
Maybe my first translation of "il va falloir" is not really good to understand. Maybe we can translate by "it will be needed to".
To translate "il faut", i think you have to look at for a subject. for instance: "il faut que l'on mange" >"we need to eat" but "il faut que tu manges"> "you need to eat".
For "il va falloir" the most difficult is the "il va" i think, so u can say "il faudra", it means nearly the same.
I hope you understand a bit better, keep asking me if you want, it will be a pleasure, but i know Im probably not the best teacher :p..

D'ailleurs, par rapport à l'usage de "special" en anglais on dirait plutôt qu'ils ont "special needs" pour dire que quelqu'un est handicapé. Sinon on dit qu'ils sont handicapé tout simplement ! Mais vous avez bien raison que le mot est péjoratif.
Pour moi, j'ai appris que un manchot en anglais est a penguin, mais que un pingouin est un Auk en anglais. Je trouvais ca très "spécial" ;)
