Blaze Foley: Faded Loves (alt doc opening)

  • (The alternate opening for the documentary Blaze Foley: Duct Tape Messiah.) In creating the documentary about Blaze Foley, we considered many different openings. A good opening is hard to create, because it has to work hard: set up the theme, establish expectation for what the film is about, build anticipation and set the hook, making the viewer want to watch the rest of the film. Although this particular opening works well, by showing Blaze and establishing him as a quirky character, it's not a good first impression and it's not his best performance. But I love his jokes and banter with the audience, which people tell me was one of the fun parts of his show, his talking with the audience.
    Watch the documentary about Blaze at:
    typhoonondeman...

    vimeo.com/onde...
    Also on Xumo, Vyre Network, InEdit and Popsy on Plex.

    First time I heard Blaze, got goosebumps and cried. I’ve been into music since the 1970’s. Spent a good portion of my income on music. 50 years and I’ve never cried or got goosebumps as much as that day I found Blaze Foley. Imagine the music he would’ve made. I curse the POS that took him away from us.

      He wanted to be a legend, and he is undoubtedly just that. Things are the way they are, people get sick, people die. The best we can do is appreciate it while they’re still here with us.

    Nobody hits me as hard as Blaze. Not even Townes.

    • @Tasmanaut
      @Tasmanaut 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I love, I mean, really worship Townes and his style. But there is something in the sheer minimalism of blaze that can NOT be beat. He can say just as much, if not more, in a few short lines, some that don't rhyme, than Townes said with all his masterful poetry. Consider this verse;
      almost felt you touching me just now
      wish I knew which way to turn and go
      feel so good, and then I feel so bad
      wonder what I ought to do
      sets a scene, paints a vivid description, relates perfectly to anyone that has ever felt that feeling, and does not even rhyme. True master. People don't realise the artistic talent required to pull this off. He didn't write simple songs because he was musically stunted or not gifted. He was simple and minimal by choice. If an intermediate musician came across Blaze's work they might mistakenly dismiss it as simple folk/country and tell themselves its not really exceptional due to the simplicity and continue about their lives thinking they could pull that off easily if they chose to. They'd be dead wrong. Very few have ever done it, I would however consider John Moreland up there with Townes and Blaze. Not every song is a perfect and hits as hard as Townes and Blaze, but there are a few where he reaches that pinnacle of expression. I've heard them all, i mean ALL of them, and he is the only other in my extremely well researched opinion.

    • @dueyramone
      @dueyramone 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      And that's sayin something...
      Even when Steve is pining because of Townes.
      Just passing a moment on, but check out Steve doing Pancho on this Canadian show with George strombolopalis* sic.
      It's something to witness.
      The film on Steve's glasses. Tone, one man audience, it'll make ya cry like I am right now listening to blaze.
      Blaze did out do them all.
      Raw.
      Soul and Sandpaper.

    Moreover, so happy that Kevin Triplett is broadcasting different videos and interviews, that was'nt included in the final cut of the Duct Tape Messiah. This alternate Documentary opening is a masterpiece, and Faded love and memories is one of Blaze most beautiful masterpiece songs.
