Brilliant videos sir. Having fitted the de-cat, my advice would be to leave a quarter of an inch of gasket protruding then tighten the clamp. This prevents the gasket shooting inside the de-cat, as it did on mine. I am very tempted with the cam……when funds allow, it might just have to happen. Thanks for putting these two vids together, I appreciate how long they take to create.
Your sheer delight at riding your modified motorcycle comes through loud and clear. It's never too late to have a happy childhood, especially if you're doing it on two wheels. Cheers!
Great videos. Thanks for sharing. Just one observation, if in dynamometer the power (in wheel) went from 15.57 to 20.46, then the increase in power was not 20%, actually was 31.41% nearly one third of gain, which is very, very impressive on any bike. 😃
I have just bought my Classic 350, to join my Meteor in the garage. My Meteor has the full stainless steel free flow exhaust, DNA filter and intake kit, and the FuelX module. They are fairly good. But now I’m going to try this mod as you have suggested on my Classic 350, and will be interested in seeing the comparative results….. Thanks for doing all the videos, it has taken out most of the guesswork for me!
Great to hear that you enjoyed my video and found it useful 👍 It would be good to know how your two bikes perform if you fit the camshaft to the Classic 350 😁
@@tigerness5555 yes, very useful! Also I had a good conversation with the chaps at Hitchcock’s today about the dyno figures and my forthcoming parts order, so I will be interested to see how your cam beds in and how well your bike performs on the Scottish roads!
Excellent stuff Tiger Ness. Working my way through all your vids.Superbly presented and an exceptionally useful insight to fantastic mods.Very much appreciated .Keep it up.
Another excellent video, please keep them coming, after seeing these cam videos I'm going too get one for my hunter, it's good too see an impartial review of one, your laughter says it all 👍
Very informative video, as normal. The excitement in your voice on the improvement this has made overall is fantastic.😊 It’s not about riding flat out, it’s that it’s got much more manageable improvement up throughout all gears, going up hills and overtaking, etc. I will be keeping eye out on Hitchcocks web site, for it coming into stock. The 3 upgrades looks like a well worthwhile purchase, improving on a great wee 350 bike. Well done Ian, best wishes, and nice to chat again on Sunday.
Hi Marc, great to hear that you enjoyed my video. I can tell that you’re tempted, a wee Christmas present perhaps 🎄🤣 I enjoyed catching up with you and the rest of the Enfield Clan on Sunday. Ride safe and keep smiling 👍
Excellent video TN! Loved it thanks! The joy and glee in your voice on the test ride, that was awesome. I guess I'll stop umming and ahhing and get the cam now!
Well explained and demostrated, sensible modifications that make a refreshing change from the usual TH-cam claptrap. A superbly presented motorcycle with cast wheels (I too hate spokes and innner tubes) and that exhaust has "the right sound". Along with the 'cam upgrade episode the best videos ever about this motorcycle.
Hi Brockett Thank you so very much for your very generous comments. It’s support like this that makes creating these videos so worthwhile. Hope you continue to enjoy my adventures into the future. Cheers Tiger Ness
Loving all this information. You're making me now consider upgrading my bike as well! I ride a lot around 100-115 kmh so anything to help me get to and maintain that speed better on hills would be fantastic.
I had a longer run out today and the bike is running fine i can feel the power on hills stay in a higher gear on heavy banks just wants some fine weather again to have real good long run out thanks for your help again Ian.
Well done and thank you for such informative vids. I am going to buy a Enfield and am torn between the classic and the Hunter, whichever one I have I will do the exact same 3 mods as yourself. It was great to watch you enjoying your bike after the mods.
This was brilliant. Your joy over the bikes improvements are infectious. I suggest you look at "Foxy's" video on his Classic 350 mods. After doing the intake and exhaust mods, he put the Fuel x lite on his and he noticed that there was not really a change in performance, just a smoothness of throttle response. The big change he noted was that the exhaust temperature was halved.. this could have some serious implications with regards to wear and longevity of the engine. I suspect that these intake and exhaust mods run the bike very lean, beyond the ability of the OE fuel management system to compensate for.
Great to hear that you enjoyed my video and found it useful 👍 I’ve watched Foxxy’s videos and would question the references to halving the exhaust temperature. My bike runs perfectly, it’s smooth, no snatching throttle or anything, just runs very well. I’ve taken the spark plug out a few times to check the colour and condition and it’s also perfect. So for the moment I don’t see the need for fitting the FuelX. I followed what Hitchcocks have done on their video. I have a Booster Plug on my Bonneville SE and it works on that bike.
It could be argued that smoothing out throttle response IS improving performance. Performance is based on various factors, eg. handling, braking, even comfort, not just speed and acceleration.
@@tigerness5555 I agree with regards the fuelX device. To me, it's a bit of a bodge akin to leaving the choke out slightly in the days of such things. But opinions vary and I would certainly not disapprove of others wishing to fit the fuelX. It's your bike after all 👍
@gilburton I also have a 2009 Yam WR250R, with de cat pipe, aftermarket zorst, air box mod etc and fitting a Booster Plug on that has just made the bike so much smoother at low speed, makes her much more enjoyable/easier to ride; ergo: performs better.
What I like about these videos is the superbly clear explanation and clarity of the filming. Really professional amateur videography. Thanks. EDIT: I just went to the hithcock's site to look up prices and there is no price on the camshaft - it is unavailable right now. How much was it please?
I’ve enjoyed your videos on this process - very thorough! It would have been nice had RE made the Classic 500 instead of the 350 to avoid all of these mods. Like you I did many of the performance upgrades except the cam and still found it to be under powered for USA traffic speeds and needs so I traded mine in on a near mint 2002 Triumph America with 25k miles and I love it. Thx again for your time and effort! Alan - NE Ohio USA.
Hi Alan Great to hear that you enjoyed my videos. Sorry that you’ve sold your Royal Enfield but fully understand the reason. I’m lucky having three bikes and use the bigger bikes for longer and faster runs. The Triumph America is a fabulous bike, very similar to my 2010 Bonneville. Enjoy your new bike 🏍️👍
Nicely done. Glad the upgrades made you smile. I've done decat and air filter mod, just the cam shaft to go lol. Then I will be smiling as big as you. Great video. Keep up the good work
Well Ian, I've took the plunge. Just ordered all the kit needed to upgrade the camshaft from Hitchcocks today. Thanks again for best video on fitting upgrading camshaft.
Ha! This channel popped up in my "suggesteds" 5 minutes ago so I skipped through the camshaft video and then this one. If only I had a Dollar for recognising Scottish roads within seconds of dropping into a video (in this case, entrance @ 12:04) ... Great looking work. Subscribed.
Ok then, looks like it works a treat. fitted the decat to my bike a while back, I like the sound of the standard exhaust, but now I can hear it better on the run. R E did well to keep the standard exhaust quite small.
Loving this series! I would be very much interested in a follow-up video, where you discuss how you like the mods a bit further down the road (mileage etc). I read in a comment that you removed the FuelX and the decat pipe, I would love to see more about the reasons etc. Keep up the good work and most of all, enjoy the ride(s)!
Great to hear that you’re enjoying my videos and hopefully finding them helpful 👍 As my bike is now almost two years old, I plan on doing a review video of that. The questions you’ve asked should hopefully all be answered in that video 😁
I bought the fuel-x for my bike. I have heard that it does nothing for performance but actually just smooths the engine out more. I think I would say that it made it more lethargic. I took it off. The performance gains I get with a modified K&N filter and cover along with the de-cat pipe are very noticeable. I am surely going to get the cam as soon as they are back in stock at Hitchcocks. Thanks for the info.
I fitted the fuel X lite on my meteor along with the de-cat exhaust system and the dna performance air filter and cover, the fuel X just makes the mixture a little bit richer, as these euro 5 bikes are incredible lean in stock form, I certainly don't find my bike lethargic
Great to hear that you enjoyed my video and found it useful 👍 Sorry about the sound. It’s never easy to get good sound quality in the helmet while riding. Perhaps I was also rather excited in this one 🤣
Great video combined with the cam change video. I have done the air intake and was going to leave it at that but you have convinced me to add the cam and exhaust mod.
Maybe a Royal Enfield dealer can fit those items to a 'J' series 350 at initial purchase of a new bike, with the benefit of having virtually new & almost unused spare parts to help offset the costs. Far better than Joe Blow new owner having those parts sitting around the place in their garage that would likely have some usage already out of them. An interesting & entertaining video on the whole, we see then that 20hp at the rear wheel is obtainable, which would likely be about 25hp at the crank. I suspect with a few other mods 30 hp at the crank is achievable, not particularly what a RE 350 Classic is all about but I say a good 30/30, that being a 30hp & 30 ft/lbs of torque is good enough for most folk even in these days. A 'J' series new 500 then would likely fulfil that criteria. I do have a hope that the main reason the new liquid cooled 452 engine is not a 500, (which I would have ensured it was!). That Royal Enfield soon plan to bring out a 'J' series 498cc engine to slap in the RE Classic & Bullet, whereby the >>older
It’s worth asking a dealer if they would fit it for you. They would probably bring up the warranty issue though. Great to hear that you enjoyed my video 👍
I fitted a de cat exhaust, high flow air filter and changed the rear sprocket for a 36T to my Scram 411. It goes really well and I don't need to throttle it hard. If you're going to the expense of changing a camshaft you may as well just buy a more powerful bike.
I've always said that the entire Royal Enfeild line were way under powered. A 20% - 30% increase is nice indeed. Bike sounds great too. I would opt for the louder exhaust muffler myself, but that's just me. Good job. Money well spent. Ride safe and keep the rubber side down. Cheers from the States. Beautiful countryside there. New subscriber also.
Hallo tiger, loving your video's. Just bought a 350 classic. I am more confident now to install the performance camshaft. Thanks for that. One question: i am in the ridin in period 300mls. Do you advice me to wait after the runnin in period to make the upgrades or do it while making the first oil change at 300 miles? Thanks again for your optimistic and learnfull video's. Berry from Holland
Hi Berry Congratulations on becoming a Classic 350 owner, like many I’m sure you’re enjoying this fabulous little bike. If I was you, I would wait until the engine is more than just run in, probably around the 2,000 mile mark minimum. The engine will benefit from this bedding in period before being increased in power. Great to hear that you enjoy my videos and are finding them helpful 😁👍
Nicely done! Your videos with the multiple video angles surely contributed to the clarity of the procedure. Please tell me, did you notice a difference in fuel consumption?
Great to hear that you enjoyed the video 👍 To be honest I don’t check on my fuel consumption on any of my bikes. It’s probably not quite as good as the standard bike but it’s still amazingly frugal. Well worth sacrificing a little bit of extra petrol for the performance gains in my opinion.
If worried about dropping the camshaft sprocket retaining bolts down the camchain tunnel, might be a good idea to stuff a clean rag between shaft end and cylinder head casting to prevent anything falling down there, remove and reapply it as necessary 😊👍
I was very careful not to allow any of the bolts to fall into the engine. My comments during the video were purely to draw viewers attention to the possible risks. Yes stuffing cloths down the shaft is a good idea for those less proficient. Hope you enjoyed the video and found it helpful 👍
Hi Ian I went back to the cam and checked with your measurements and I had I right as I had set it for TDC which I'm pleased I did so your measurements were spot on. I've had the bike running and it seems ok but a bit louder so when I get the other bits of maintenance done I'll be trying it out on the road. Thanks for your help again videos very informative. By the way where do you get the information re torque settings and so on I've only got the handbook and don't think Haynes do a workshop manual for our bikes as yet.
Hi Ken, great to hear that all is well with your camshaft installation. I did a google search for a service manual and found a link to one on a Royal Enfield Owners Forum. The site is in Russian but the manual is in English. It does work and is the place I got mine. www.royalenfieldowners.com/index.php?threads/meteor-350-service-manual-pdf-available.2050/ Hope this helps, safe riding.
Hi Ian I have managed to download the meteor manual, thanks for the link. I have had a short run out on the bike but just for 16 miles it wasn't a fair test the rain started pouring down in fact some sleaty snow for a short while, hopefully I might get a better run tomorrow weather permitting. Some of your TH-cam shows you putting on a Xlight is it still on your bike? and a decat pipe but also a stainless steel full exhaust system.
I didn’t like the Hitchcocks free flow exhaust, it was just too loud for me. I only put it on the bike because of the free flow exhaust and sold it along with that exhaust system a while ago. In retrospect I should have kept it as it would be good to try it on the bike with the current setup. As my bike runs really well, it’s hard to justify buying another one.@@kenmoore4737
Hi mate, i thought you fitted the full hitchcocks decat system already? Did you go back to standard? If so why? Too loud? Only just started watching this video so ignore if you cover this lol keep the videos coming matey you’re doing a good job! 🎉
Great to hear that you enjoyed my video and found it useful 👍 The noise was just too loud for me, especially on a long ride. The standard system with the de-cat pipe is just perfect for me.
Nice bike, nice modification, very good video. Thx for that. I like that bike very much. Maybe I have to sold one of my old Hondas and buy an Enfield ... :)
Excellent stuff, Wouldn't mind putting this cam into my Hunter 350, Have you thought about putting a 16 tooth cog conversion, considering it's pulling better 👍 I'd also Go the whole hog and actually fit the DNA air filter, I've fitted the DNA Air Filter on both my Interceptor 650 and my Hunter, But as yet only the 16 tooth cog conversion on my Interceptor, I'm planning to get one for my Hunter, But I may consider the cam after seeing your video 👍 Cheers Paul
I have a 16 tooth gearbox sprocket and may fit it again at some point. I love the bike the way it is now and don’t wish to loose the top end punch that the engine now has by raising the gearing. As for the DNA filter I think any very slight improvement isn’t worth the expense and trouble. Hope you enjoyed my video and found it interesting 👍
Some riders might think replacing the cam is a little beyond their diy expertise but could confidently manage the decat pipe and air filter mod. Would these be a worthwhile improvement, do you think?
Yes the decat pipe and filter will give some improvement. That’s what’s so special about these bikes, completely standard they’re great and they are so easy to tinker with. Hope you enjoyed the video 👍
Just received my cam and looking forward to fitting it using your excellent install video as a guide. Can I ask why you decided to remove the fuel X lite from the bike?
Great to hear that you enjoyed my video and hopefully found it helpful 👍 I sold it along with the Hitchcocks free flow exhaust system which I didn’t like due to the loud noise. I wish I had held onto it now to see what difference it might have made with my current setup.
Another brilliant couple of videos Tigerness - thank you! I did read that once the cam is fitted you should not allow the bike to idle at all for several minutes? This is counter intuitive with the ECU reset procedure though. I doubt it makes any difference to the bedding in process but I wonder if you could carry out the Kent Cams initial running instructions first, then allow the bike to fully cool (overnight?) before doing the ECU reset? Edit: Sounds like the 16T gearbox sprocket might definitely be worth a revisit?
Great to hear that you enjoyed my video and hope you found it useful 👍 What you have said is correct and it’s what I actually did. I did fit the cam first and ran it for a day or so before fitting the decat pipe and making the second video. I should probably have mentioned that in the video, too late now 🤣 I may try refitting the 16T sprocket at some point, really enjoying the bike as it is though.
Hope you enjoyed my video and found it helpful 👍 It’ll be well worth the wait, I’m very happy with my camshaft upgrade. Now done around 4,000 trouble free miles with it installed.
Great vid... but can I ask why you wouldn't think a dna filter wouldn't make it run better again ? Also have you removed the fuel x lite you fitted, surely this would also assist optimal running ?
Great to hear that you enjoyed my video and hopefully found it helpful👍 Unfortunately these are improvements do not allow the bike to overcome the 70 mph speed limit, this is still restricted by the ECU/throttle body. Details of the FuelX Lite be seen at this link: accessories.hitchcocksmotorcycles.com/47038?cont_page=Royal-Enfield-350-Classic-Accessories
Looks like a good set of upgrades. I imagine that in normal riding there might also be an improvement in economy, as the extra pulling power would enable you to use higher gears at times. I was surprised to hear it has a top speed limiter, in addition to a rev limiter. Is it possible to remove the speed limiter? By the way, I loved the roads that you rode. Lovely scenery.
Great to hear that you’re enjoying my videos and hope you found them useful 👍 I don’t expect the economy will have improved, it’s such a frugal machine on petrol that it’s not really an issue. In theory it may be possible to fit the throttle body/ECU from the Hunter as it’s not top speed restricted. Given the expense involved it this it’s debatable if it’s worth doing.
That’s interesting, I have met and talked to a Hunter owner who has also fitted the performance camshaft to his bike. He claims to have reached a top speed of 87mph. I don’t know if different markets have different setups, or if later ones are unrestricted.@gilburton
Fantastic video Ian, I'd be interested to see the colour of the spark plug after a few hundred miles or so. I have the DNA filter & plate fitted but I personally think it's running lean after checking the plug recently.
Great to hear that you enjoyed my video and hope you found it useful 👍 I’ve had the spark plug out a few times to check since fitting the camshaft, all good so far 🤞
Hope you enjoyed my video and found it useful. I’ve just put a link to a service manual in the video description. This is the same link: drive.google.com/file/d/1W1423jB25CfLSj88eQSwQJFw5m0k95nI/view
Great DIY, one question at what km on the odometer you do all this mods? I have decat pipe, DNA stage 2 and Powertronic V4, but only 50km in my classic 350 just have it for 4 days, Im thinking made all the mods arround 500km what do you think?
If I was you I would wait until the bike is at the very least, fully run in. Get to know the bike, understand how well it performs in standard trim, only then will you know if any or all the modifications you make are worthwhile or not. I also assume that it’s a brand new bike and that the manufacturers warranty is important to you. Some changes may invalidate the warranty in some dealers eyes. I didn’t make any performance modifications to my bike until it had done around 4,000 miles. Hope this helps 👍
Could you please put the link up for the workshop manual.I’ve had my halcyon grey for 18 mths now.I just can’t find an actual workshop manual.Kind regards from Australia
I’ve been toying with the idea of upgrading to a motoguzzi 850 but I just love the classic so much. This would work. 11,000 trouble free klms .Thanks again. I’m sold on this route instead .Cheers
Hope you enjoyed my video and found it useful. I’ve just put a link to a service manual in the video description. This is the same link: drive.google.com/file/d/1W1423jB25CfLSj88eQSwQJFw5m0k95nI/view
Hello, I am a new subscriber. Thank you for your great videos and the SM link! Could you let me know what service you have the Classic 350 on in this video please? Thanks again.
Hi Mr Buddha, thank you for subscribing to my channel, and great to hear that you enjoyed this video. I’m not really sure what you mean by what service I have on the classic 350. But at the time of fitting the camshaft my bike had covered around 6000 miles and has been serviced as per the manufacturer recommendations up to that point. My bike has now covered almost 10,000 miles and has been trouble free.
Thanks for these really fun and informative videos, just wondering why you did not add a DNA filter? Is there any reason? As i have always thought the cheapest performance upgrades are, more air in and quicker release of gases. Love to know your thoughts, thanks
I’ve had similar K&N filters in the past, they were a lot more expensive than standard filters and the cleaning and re-oiling of them was a pain. I also don’t think the cost is worth the very slight potential power increase. The DNA filter does give more induction noise but that’s not necessarily more power. I’ve setup my bike exactly as Hitchcocks did for their performance camshaft test on the Dyno. I’m now very happy with the performance of my bike, it’s definitely much better than standard. Great to hear that your enjoying the videos 👍
I don’t think the DNA filter would provide any noticeable difference. Also it’s expensive for what it is and I hate having to clean and re-oil air filters. Hope you enjoyed my video and found it useful 👍
Great to hear that you enjoyed the video and found it helpful 😁👍 The Classic 350 and the Hunter 350 are basically the same bike with a few styling differences. The manual will definitely be helpful as the engine, brakes, suspension etc are almost identical.
Great video. I’d heard that the bike is limited on the ecu to 70mph, have you found this to be the case or have you seen an improvement in that as well?
Great to hear that you enjoyed my video 👍 The Classic 350 Reborn and the Meteor 350 both have top speed limiters, they cannot go above 75 mph. The camshaft definitely improves the acceleration and top end power, but it can’t make the top speed gonany faster. The Hunter on the other hand is not speed limited. I’ve spoken to a Hunter rider who has the camshaft fitted and his bike has done 87mph.
With all the mods would you fail the MOT? Im in the states 🇺🇸 so I don't know of these thing. Great vid btw. Very clear information and Sir you have a very neat and clean garage!!
Great to hear that you enjoyed my video 👍 As they don’t do motorcycle exhaust emission testing in the UK MOT at the present time, I think it should be ok. If there was an issue I would simply put the cat back on for the test 🤣 Thanks, I love my garage 👍
Very interesting TN your clearly impressed with the modifications my only thoughts are about the longevity of the engine with no air filter??? That was a canny wee road you were testing out the Enfield on and when is the merchandise coming?😏
Hi again Old Fella, Great to hear that you enjoyed my video. I think you should watch the video again, it has a brand new standard air filter fitted 👍 This is purely a hobby channel, I make no money from it, so sorry to disappoint there won’t be any merchandise 🤣. The Dunning Glen road 🏍️👍
Bedding the cam in is contradictory to Enfield advice on ECU learning....ie keep it revving between 2k and 3k for the first 15 minutes and do not allow to idle during this time. Personally I don't think either make any difference, fit and go out and ride, the ECU constantly monitors air and fuelling and I see no logical reason for the idling for however long to let it learn. Anyway, love the mods, particularly your demonstrating the cam fitting..might do it myself when Hitchcock's gets more in.
Great to hear that you enjoyed my video 👍 I did actually run in the new camshaft as you described, the video was made days after fitting it. I just followed the ECU learning process as found in the service manual I found online. Interestingly, when all the parts were first fitted there was some popping from the exhaust when closing the throttle. After the ECU learning the popping has completely gone, so it does seem to work.
Maybe....I've only fitted the decat pipe and it was a bit poppy, but it's really sweet now, and I did do a 15 minute idle. After first service really rides on song round country lanes. It can be ridden quite sportily in fact as well as a plodder.
Great videos! You're really good at this. I'm taking delivery of a new Meteor next week and look forward to making the modifications after the bike has a few miles on it.
There may be a slight increase in petrol consumption, I’ve never checked. The bike is so frugal it isn’t an issue. As to the insurance there was no increase as I haven’t told them 🤣 Hope you enjoyed my video 👍
I want to know what all these things do and no one wants to do this. I have heard from some who did the decat, filter and fuelX and said there was every little difference. Just ruined the mpg. Hitchcocks said 10% from just filter upgrade, so I don't know. However, your results sound encouraging.
Hi Allan You’re quite correct, on their own, the decat pipe, filter and FuelX will not make much difference in performance. The bike will go a little bit better and will sound louder giving the impression of increased performance. The performance camshaft along with some or all of the other items definitely does give more power. That said the bike does not have any increase in top speed due to the ECU attached to the throttle body restricting top speed. It’s debatable whether any of these performance improvements are worthwhile, the standard bike is very good in its own right. You have to rev the modified bike much more to extract the power. The engine is quite happy doing this and has proved to be problem free. Would I do it all again, being honest, I’m unsure. Hope this answers your question 👍😁 The modifications I’ve done to my Classic 350 are: Decat pipe Open air filter cover, with standard filter (not DNA) FuelX light Performance camshaft 16 tooth gearbox sprocket
After seeing your video, I'm definitely thinking of getting a Cam fitted for my Hunter 350 When I can afford it, Being a Yorkshireman, We're a bit careful with our money like Scotsmen LOL 😅 But seriously, have you thought about fitting a Fuel X Lite on your Royal Enfield Classic, As it helps lean burn engine's run cooler, and prelongs the engine and engine Oil 👍 As I have put them on both my Interceptor and Hunter, As both have DNA Air Filters and After market Silencer's, But I've only done 12 minutes on tick over, So after seeing your video, I'm going to be doing them both for 30 minutes each now 👍 Thank you very much for that, Great channel Cheers Paul Foster 👍
Hi Paul, great to hear that you’re enjoying my videos and finding them helpful 👍 I actually do have a FuelX Lite on my bike, not sure if it makes much difference, but better safe than sorry 🤣
@@tigerness5555 I've since ran my Hunter for 30 minutes, To do the Check , I'll be doing it for my Interceptor, Thanks again, When I've saved up the money, I'll be getting a Hitchcocks cam for my Hunter 👍 Cheers Paul 👍
From memory I think my bike had covered around 5,000 miles when I installed the camshaft. It’s now done almost 10,000 trouble free miles (apart from a faulty speedometer that is). If I was you I would wait until the engine is fully run in and a bit more, say around 3,000 Km. That way you get to experience the bike properly before installing the camshaft. Hope this helps and enjoy your bike 😁👍
@@tigerness5555it is excellent, pretty much as you found, but because my configuration uses the DNA filter, FuelX, and the free flow stainless steel pipe, I’m now going to have to find a dyno to check its power output as according to Hitchcock’s, my power might just be slightly higher, and they haven’t as yet dyno tested my configuration. Anyway, my experience was that it performs very much like my old 500 UCE Bullet during acceleration, so I am especially pleased with the results! So much so, that I will be upgrading my Meteor 350 too, at its next service. I’m afraid we have a lot of gormless pedestrians with their heads in their iPhones and so loud pipes definitely save lives around my town…also I just love the feeling of liberation my set up gives me. Now, I’ve yet to make my review video as my GoPro decided it wasn’t going to work because of the cold weather, (I have a new DJI Osmo Action 4) and so I will make another attempt to film when the weather is a little bit warmer. I often point people in the direction of your excellent fitting videos if they want to modify their J platform bikes as they are clear and concise, and quite frankly I couldn’t do better than you have already.
Interesting video. More lift generally gives more power over all. Same with opening up the flow. More air an fuel equals more power from top to bottom. Moving the timing of when it opens moves the RPM range it is being produced. That graph shows a slight drop in power at the bottom an lots more power at the top. So that makes me think it has more aggressive timing. Not much more I am sure because its a wast to push the power above the rev limiter. But without O2 reading, I cant say that the engine management is not just doing a bad job of off idle fueling for all that extra air. I have been wondering why everyone is adding these aftermarket fuel systems on a new bike that should have a learning system able to correct for mods. Can the system is has not do its job? I have not found any videos showing O2 reading. Just videos guessing, taking upgrade companies word for it and/or butt feel. This is the first video I have seen to even state the fact that new bike have learning systems. In lots of other peoples videos they dont seem to know that or chose to not talk about it.
Many thanks for your very informative and interesting comments. It’s very difficult to know if fitting a FuelX makes any difference. I have just purchased one (still to be fitted), not for any performance gains but hopefully to ensure the engine has the correct fuelling following all my modifications. It’s simply a belt and braces situation for me as I’m pretty sure my engine is performing really well. Hope you enjoyed my video 👍
You should be able to find all the parts you need here for your classic 350. accessories.hitchcocksmotorcycles.com/information-and-services/Royal-Enfield-350-Classic-Accessories Hope you enjoyed the video 👍
Sorry if this has been asked or answered before but have you had to fit a fuelx following your mods? I have the filter cover and aftermarket exhaust without baffle and thinking of the decat (meteor) but don’t want to do the fuelx. Cheers
Hi Andrew I do have a FuelX Light on my bike, I basically fitted it because of the other modifications I’ve done to my bike. Was it worth fitting, a truthful answer, I don’t really know. All I can say is that with the modifications listed below my bike is performing really well. I think it’s about as good as it can be without changing the throttle body / ECU unit to get rid of the maximum 73mph speed limiter. Haven’t managed to resolve that issue as yet. Hope this helps 👍 The engine modifications I’ve made to my bike at this time: High Performance Camshaft De-Cat Pipe Hitchcocks open air filter cover (I DO NOT have a DNA air filter) FuelX Light 16 tooth gearbox sprocket
@@tigerness5555 thanks for your reply, that’s really helpful. I think the only reason I would fit it is if without it I would be damaging the engine with the mods I’ve made but unsure whether you’d ever really know until it was too late.
Would it be possible to simply cut a round hole in the stock air filter cap for greater flow?, or does the design of the stock filter cap make that unworkable?
Yes you can do this, there’s videos on TH-cam from people who have done that. The only down side is that if you ever want to return the bike to standard, then you’ve destroyed the original cover. Hope you enjoyed the video 👍
We’re in the states , my husband just purchased the350 Classic, 2022, he wants to know if you can tell the link to purchase the camshaft, and the Hitchcock decat pipe

The stock bike makes 15 brake horsepower and Hitchcox report 20 brake horsepower with the modifications. So if we take 20÷15 it gives us 1.33. So with the modifications, isn’t the modified engine making 33% more peak power, or do I need to go back to elementary school? Thank you for the video it was very interesting. It would also be interesting to learn if any of this has seriously affected the fuel consumption, which of course is outstanding for the stock bike. Best regards, David.
Great to hear that you enjoyed my video and found it interesting 👍 I think your calculations are spot on. Riding the bike there is a definite increase in power which feels exactly like the Hitchcocks power curve. As for petrol consumption, if anyone is really that concerned, then they will probably never use the higher rev range anyway 🤣
@@tigerness5555 I never really venture into the higher rev area of mine - preferring to pootle about short-shifting. It's just the way I ride these days. It'd be nice if Kent Cams offered a version which improves low end torque instead 🤔
@@PhilipBallGarryi had hunter 350 which share the same engine. like to short shifted. already at fifth gear @60kmph. i had zard exhaust installed and it sounds more dug dug
Great to hear that you enjoyed my video and found it interesting 👍 If it doesn’t then I’ll refit the cat for the test. The camshaft will not affect the MOT test.
High revs and big single may mean pricing a new big end, which is probably why RE restrict the perfomance. Should be okay if you are sympathetic generally.
This new engine has proven to be very strong and reliable. Yes, if like any other engine, it’s thrashed constantly and not maintained, it will eventually fail. I definitely do not ride my bike in this way, I have sympathy for the engine. Hope you enjoyed my video 👍

Hope you enjoyed my video 👍 I’ve not informed my insurance company. The bikes top speed hasn’t changed so the bike stability and braking is just the same. Anyway, without stripping the engine and measuring the camshaft, how would they ever know 🤣
I understand your position and agree. I enjoyed both of you videos that covered the Kent cam shaft installation and will buy a 'full set' for my Meteor.
@@simonwalker7957exactly, unfortunately you have literally provided video evidence of the modification to the bike which an insurance company could and would use to get out of claim 😮
It probably does, but this is such a strong under stressed engine that it shouldn’t be a problem. Only time will tell, if my engine has issues because of it, I’ll let everyone know in a follow up video. The bike doesn’t go any faster, the benefit comes from the increased power to climb hills, accelerate faster and overtake other vehicles easier and with more safety. It gives the bike that bit more power that it lacked as standard.
Some caveats here. My cat tube hanger did NOT have a captive nut behind the bolt. It was the worst....what seems to be a combo of a Nylok +Loctite on a free nut with the bolt through an AV bush....I'm wondering if RE has shares in Loctite as the bloody stuff's everywhere. I've damned-near rounded the bastard trying to get that back nut off, and now am looking for a 12mm ring spanner off my mates to hopefully save the day, before I get the angle grinder out. Guys, it's NOT as easy as it looks, if the build has been 'economised'.
Sorry to hear about your experience, that certainly wasn’t the case for me. I didn’t have any trouble whatsoever and have found the build quality of my bike to be very good. Hope you enjoyed my video and found it helpful 👍
Hi Ian, Great to hear that you enjoyed my video and found it useful 👍
Thanks for your comments, very useful.
Your sheer delight at riding your modified motorcycle comes through loud and clear. It's never too late to have a happy childhood, especially if you're doing it on two wheels. Cheers!
Cheers Paul, glad you enjoyed the video 👍
Great videos. Thanks for sharing. Just one observation, if in dynamometer the power (in wheel) went from 15.57 to 20.46, then the increase in power was not 20%, actually was 31.41% nearly one third of gain, which is very, very impressive on any bike. 😃
Yes, you are right, I meant to say an increase of over 20%. Great to hear that you enjoyed my video 👍

Well done and thank you for such informative vids. I am going to buy a Enfield and am torn between the classic and the Hunter, whichever one I have I will do the exact same 3 mods as yourself. It was great to watch you enjoying your bike after the mods.

What fabulous roads you’ve got to ride on. Looks like that little Royal Enfield is just perfect for enjoying them on.
Yes I’m very lucky living where i do, plenty of great riding roads close by.
Hope you enjoyed the video 👍
This was brilliant. Your joy over the bikes improvements are infectious. I suggest you look at "Foxy's" video on his Classic 350 mods. After doing the intake and exhaust mods, he put the Fuel x lite on his and he noticed that there was not really a change in performance, just a smoothness of throttle response. The big change he noted was that the exhaust temperature was halved.. this could have some serious implications with regards to wear and longevity of the engine. I suspect that these intake and exhaust mods run the bike very lean, beyond the ability of the OE fuel management system to compensate for.
Similar to the euro 4 650s. A booster plug is recommended for a full exhaust change.
Great to hear that you enjoyed my video and found it useful 👍
I’ve watched Foxxy’s videos and would question the references to halving the exhaust temperature.
Thankyou so much for taking the time to do such detail in both videos

I’ve enjoyed your videos on this process - very thorough! It would have been nice had RE made the Classic 500 instead of the 350 to avoid all of these mods.

I fitted a de cat exhaust, high flow air filter and changed the rear sprocket for a 36T to my Scram 411. It goes really well and I don't need to throttle it hard. If you're going to the expense of changing a camshaft you may as well just buy a more powerful bike.
Hope you enjoyed the video.
I have two more powerful bikes in my garage, it doesn’t stop me tinkering with the fabulous Classic 350 though 🤣👍
I've always said that the entire Royal Enfeild line were way under powered. A 20% - 30% increase is nice indeed. Bike sounds great too.
Hi Berry
Congratulations on becoming a Classic 350 owner, like many I’m sure you’re enjoying this fabulous little bike.
Great to hear that you enjoyed the video 👍
To be honest I don’t check on my fuel consumption on any of my bikes.
Awesome and informative, many thanks.

You can tell with with your excitement this isn’t a placebo effect. Perhaps RE should release a gt350 with this as standard?

Excellent stuff,
Wouldn't mind putting this cam into my Hunter 350,
Have you thought about putting a 16 tooth cog conversion, considering it's pulling better 👍
I'd also Go the whole hog and actually fit the DNA air filter,
I've fitted the DNA Air Filter on both my Interceptor 650 and my Hunter,
But as yet only the 16 tooth cog conversion on my Interceptor,
I'm planning to get one for my Hunter,

Cheers Paul
Great to hear that you enjoyed my video and hopefully found it helpful 👍
I sold it along with the Hitchcocks free flow exhaust system which I didn’t like due to the loud noise. I wish I had held onto it now to see what difference it might have made with my current setup.
I also wonder why you don’t use FuelX anymore…
Another brilliant couple of videos Tigerness - thank you! I did read that once the cam is fitted you should not allow the bike to idle at all for several minutes? This is counter intuitive with the ECU reset procedure though. I doubt it makes any difference to the bedding in process but I wonder if you could carry out the Kent Cams initial running instructions first, then allow the bike to fully cool (overnight?) before doing the ECU reset?
Edit: Sounds like the 16T gearbox sprocket might definitely be worth a revisit?
Great to hear that you enjoyed my video and hope you found it useful 👍
What you have said is correct and it’s what I actually did. I did fit the cam first and ran it for a day or so before fitting the decat pipe and making the second video. I should probably have mentioned that in the video, too late now 🤣
I may try refitting the 16T sprocket at some point, really enjoying the bike as it is though.
Ive done all the mods on my meteor except the camshaft. just waiting for them to be available again!!
Hope you enjoyed my video and found it helpful 👍
It’ll be well worth the wait, I’m very happy with my camshaft upgrade. Now done around 4,000 trouble free miles with it installed.
Great vid... but can I ask why you wouldn't think a dna filter wouldn't make it run better again ? Also have you removed the fuel x lite you fitted, surely this would also assist optimal running ?
Great to hear that you enjoyed the video.
I sold the FuelX along with the free flow exhaust system. In hindsight, I should have kept it 🤣
Nice video! Congrats!
What do you think will happen if you increase the DNA air filter?
Very little I recon, definitely not worth the extra expense. Great to hear that you enjoyed my video 👍
Good little series on these upgrades.

Really really great video, do these improvements allows the bike to overcome the 70mph or 115 km/h?
And what Is It the Felix light?

Unfortunately these are improvements do not allow the bike to overcome the 70 mph speed limit, this is still restricted by the ECU/throttle body.

@@tigerness5555thank you!!! If you find a way to overcome and delete the restriction of the ECU and the throttle body please let me know!
Brilliant! Maybe I should try the same procedure on my Interceptor!
Great to hear that you enjoyed my video and thank you for your supportive comments 👍
Great to hear that you’re enjoying my videos and hope you found them useful 👍
I don’t expect the economy will have improved, it’s such a frugal machine on petrol that it’s not really an issue.
Check out Powertronic V4 for the rev/top speed limiter.
Excellent presentation thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it! 👍
Fantastic video Ian, I'd be interested to see the colour of the spark plug after a few hundred miles or so. I have the DNA filter & plate fitted but I personally think it's running lean after checking the plug recently.

I’ve had the spark plug out a few times to check since fitting the camshaft, all good so far 🤞
Please share the link for the online workshop manual. I'm looking at doing the camshaft conversion along with changing the front and rear sprockets.

@@tigerness5555 My apologies...I meant what service stand. However, I figured out it is an Abba by pausing the video. Thanks for your reply.
Thanks that is good to know why you made your choices. Good luck with the channel and please keep making the great videos.@@tigerness5555
This is now the bike it should be.
Great to hear that you enjoyed my video and thank you for your supportive comments 👍
Any reason for not upgrading air filter?
I don’t think the DNA filter would provide any noticeable difference. Also it’s expensive for what it is and I hate having to clean and re-oil air filters.
Hope you enjoyed my video and found it useful 👍
@tigerness5555 yes, loving the videos, I have an interceptor and a scram at the moment and would dearly love a classic 350 to finish the fleet
Great to hear that you enjoyed the video and found it helpful 😁👍
The Classic 350 and the Hunter 350 are basically the same bike with a few styling differences. The manual will definitely be helpful as the engine, brakes, suspension etc are almost identical.
Great video. I didn't have a nut and washer on the cat frame mount, just a threaded clip. Did you have one or just add it?
Great to hear that you enjoyed my video 👍
I can’t remember if the decat pipe came with a new nut and washer. I would have had one anyway 🤣
Great video. I’d heard that the bike is limited on the ecu to 70mph, have you found this to be the case or have you seen an improvement in that as well?
Great to hear that you enjoyed my video 👍
The Classic 350 Reborn and the Meteor 350 both have top speed limiters, they cannot go above 75 mph.
Great to hear that you enjoyed my video 👍
As they don’t do motorcycle exhaust emission testing in the UK MOT at the present time, I think it should be ok. If there was an issue I would simply put the cat back on for the test 🤣
Thanks, I love my garage 👍
Very interesting TN your clearly impressed with the modifications my only thoughts are about the longevity of the engine with no air filter??? That was a canny wee road you were testing out the Enfield on and when is the merchandise coming?😏
Hi again Old Fella, Great to hear that you enjoyed my video. I think you should watch the video again, it has a brand new standard air filter fitted 👍
This is purely a hobby channel, I make no money from it, so sorry to disappoint there won’t be any merchandise 🤣.
Great to hear that you enjoyed my video 👍
I did actually run in the new camshaft as you described, the video was made days after fitting it.
Hello, if I just remove the cats, do I need to do anything else? The idle procedure etc? Thanks👍 Love you videos.
In my opinion you only need to do the idle procedure.
Great to hear that you enjoy my videos and hopefully find them helpful 👍

Great videos! You're really good at this. I'm taking delivery of a new Meteor next week and look forward to making the modifications after the bike has a few miles on it.

Enjoy your new Meteor, they’re fabulous bikes.
I ordered the decat pipe and the special camshaft tools. Cams are still 'out of stock'.@@tigerness5555
Hi, is there any change to the bikes fuel consumption or is it too early to say. Any cost changes to your insurance with these mods.
There may be a slight increase in petrol consumption, I’ve never checked. The bike is so frugal it isn’t an issue. As to the insurance there was no increase as I haven’t told them 🤣
Hope you enjoyed my video 👍
I want to know what all these things do and no one wants to do this. I have heard from some who did the decat, filter and fuelX and said there was every little difference. Just ruined the mpg. Hitchcocks said 10% from just filter upgrade, so I don't know. However, your results sound encouraging.
Hi Allan
You’re quite correct, on their own, the decat pipe, filter and FuelX will not make much difference in performance.
Hope this answers your question 👍😁
The modifications I’ve done to my Classic 350 are:
Decat pipe
Open air filter cover, with standard filter (not DNA)
FuelX light
Performance camshaft
16 tooth gearbox sprocket
After seeing your video,
I'm definitely thinking of getting a Cam fitted for my Hunter 350
When I can afford it,
Being a Yorkshireman,
We're a bit careful with our money like Scotsmen LOL 😅
But seriously, have you thought about fitting a Fuel X Lite on your Royal Enfield Classic,
As it helps lean burn engine's run cooler, and prelongs the engine and engine Oil 👍
As I have put them on both my Interceptor and Hunter,
As both have DNA Air Filters and After market Silencer's,
But I've only done 12 minutes on tick over,
So after seeing your video,
I'm going to be doing them both for 30 minutes each now 👍
Thank you very much for that,
Great channel
Cheers Paul Foster 👍
Hi Paul, great to hear that you’re enjoying my videos and finding them helpful 👍
I actually do have a FuelX Lite on my bike, not sure if it makes much difference, but better safe than sorry 🤣
@@tigerness5555
I've since ran my Hunter for 30 minutes,
To do the Check , I'll be doing it for my Interceptor,
Thanks again,
When I've saved up the money,
I'll be getting a Hitchcocks cam for my Hunter 👍
Cheers Paul 👍
From memory I think my bike had covered around 5,000 miles when I installed the camshaft. It’s now done almost 10,000 trouble free miles (apart from a faulty speedometer that is).
If I was you I would wait until the engine is fully run in and a bit more, say around 3,000 Km. That way you get to experience the bike properly before installing the camshaft. Hope this helps and enjoy your bike 😁👍
I have now bought the cam!
Excellent, let me know how you find the performance change once it’s fitted.
Hope you found my videos useful 👍
I'm definitely doing this to my Meteor. Could you do an MPG test running at normal speeds.
Great to hear that you enjoyed my video and found it useful 👍
This bike is so frugal on petrol, I don’t imagine it uses much more.

@@tigerness5555 so I'm guessing I need the decat pipe and end can?
I only have the decat pipe on my bike, i still use the standard silencer. This works for me and gives a sound level that I like.
Sorry if this has been asked or answered before but have you had to fit a fuelx following your mods? I have the filter cover and aftermarket exhaust without baffle and thinking of the decat (meteor) but don’t want to do the fuelx. Cheers
Hi Andrew
I do have a FuelX Light on my bike, I basically fitted it because of the other modifications I’ve done to my bike.
Hope this helps 👍
The engine modifications I’ve made to my bike at this time:
High Performance Camshaft
De-Cat Pipe
Hitchcocks open air filter cover (I DO NOT have a DNA air filter)
FuelX Light
16 tooth gearbox sprocket
@@tigerness5555 thanks for your reply, that’s really helpful. I think the only reason I would fit it is if without it I would be damaging the engine with the mods I’ve made but unsure whether you’d ever really know until it was too late.
That’s exactly why I fitted mine 🤣👍
Would it be possible to simply cut a round hole in the stock air filter cap for greater flow?, or does the design of the stock filter cap make that unworkable?
Yes you can do this, there’s videos on TH-cam from people who have done that.
The only down side is that if you ever want to return the bike to standard, then you’ve destroyed the original cover.
Hope you enjoyed the video 👍
Muito bom. Meus parabéns, essa árvore de comando está à venda?
Great to hear that you enjoyed the video and hopefully found it helpful 👍
Did these three changes have any impact on fuel economy compared to stock?
To be honest I really don’t know. I suspect the fuel consumption has increased slightly, but hardly noticeable.
Hope you enjoyed the video 😁👍

The stock bike makes 15 brake horsepower and Hitchcox report 20 brake horsepower with the modifications. So if we take 20÷15 it gives us 1.33. So with the modifications, isn’t the modified engine making 33% more peak power, or do I need to go back to elementary school? Thank you for the video it was very interesting. It would also be interesting to learn if any of this has seriously affected the fuel consumption, which of course is outstanding for the stock bike. Best regards, David.
Great to hear that you enjoyed my video and found it interesting 👍
I think your calculations are spot on.

If it doesn’t then I’ll refit the cat for the test. The camshaft will not affect the MOT test.
Excellent.

@@simonwalker7957exactly, unfortunately you have literally provided video evidence of the modification to the bike which an insurance company could and would use to get out of claim 😮
Does that performance cam put more strain on any other engine parts?
It probably does, but this is such a strong under stressed engine that it shouldn’t be a problem. Only time will tell, if my engine has issues because of it, I’ll let everyone know in a follow up video.
The bike doesn’t go any faster, the benefit comes from the increased power to climb hills, accelerate faster and overtake other vehicles easier and with more safety. It gives the bike that bit more power that it lacked as standard.
Any change in fuel consumption?
Slightly, but so little you don’t notice it. Hope you enjoyed the video 😁👍
