These style of plotters have been around for more than 40 years. Some of them way more advanced than this. I had one that would have once been considered overkill for the ledger sized sheets of paper on what we plotted our designs. It probably had a 36" width and was incredibly fun to watch, even when a sheet of 11x17" piece of ledger paper was inserted as it automatically measured every dimension of the paper, length width and even thickness. Then, when it had measured, it fed the page back and forth at high speed a couple of times to verify the size of the page. It was an old HP stylus plotter that held a total of 8 pens in a rotating carousel. After that, the high school was gifted a wide format inkjet printer with ink wells outside of the machine. It was the first time I encountered one of those and I thought, "Why aren't smaller inkjet printers equipped like this?"
That said, I took many Technological Design and Drafting courses in high school and we started with manual orthographic view drafting. We were also taught how to set up our media on the drafting desks and use the various tools to draft. At one point we moved up to isometric "3D" then we got to work with AutoCAD. It's always a good idea to start with the basics or foundations. You should know that in Architectural School or even before you applied for it. If schools don't teach that foundation anymore we're in big trouble. It's like reading, writing, grammar and arithmetic. Starting with the basics gives us an idea how we did this in the past, thus incredibly essential.

This machine specifically? I see a number of them on Ebay selling for a couple of hundred dollars. As a guy who has seen stylus plotters before, it's not really that impressive since they have existed in drafting rooms for four decades. If anything, this is incredibly simplistic compared to the 36" HP stylus plotter we had access to in high school, and that machine was probably easily 15 years old when I used it. The plotter we had used a RS-232 or RS-485 interface (probably the former) and had some pretty specific BAUD and other settings. I can't remember if it used a Centronics style parallel interface too but I definitely remember trying to set it up in Windows 98 or XP through the serial interface. It could be incredibly finnicky as using the wrong settings tended to make it go ape-scat with "overload" errors and drawing random lines in designs.
How much pain he must have felt to find this awesome product... After how many trials and sleepless days.... This is great one dear..not only for homework its a good invention for many documents... Better than printer...great work... Proud of you...

Imagine the pen ink stopping after every second 😅.. and imagine the next level homework 🤣
DONE THAT during my engineering time. every semester we use to have 10-12 assignments per subject and each semester has 6 subjects. means at least 60-72 assignments per semester each assignment would at least be of 27-30 pages back and forth.
i had 3 of these CNC plotter (didn't buy, rather built them using cheap DVD Boxes of CPU. this is btw 2011-2015 times when Old computer parts were fairly cheap as laptops were tranding)
i use to charge others 500/- per assignment and use to give 200 to the scholar guy of the class for sending completed assignment photos. luckily our assignments werent on books they were on sheets given by college so it was easier to build paper swiper and flipper.
next day in morning the room would have tonnes of paper on floor all i had to do was arange them number wise and staple.
i still remember one time i turned on all 3 machines and went to sleep but current went off and came back within 10 mins but my system was off. lucky for me as a fail safe i had set 4am alarm.
the look on other students face was unbeaten to see when they would know i finish my assignment and make more assignments for others and still have time to play football after college xD
