    The movie originally was supposed to be a musical. A serious sweeping epic like Lion King was. But it got stuck in development hell, went through a ton of rewrites, and eventually it just sort of devolved into the very sarcastic wacky comedy that we know and love today.

    Kuzco is best disney princess. Okay but seriously though I adore how they didn't make him directly apologize or say something like he was wrong. He learned his lesson, retained most of his personality but gained a level of empathy he was missing and rather than directly admit his mistakes he fixed them with a different justification for changing his mind. Made peace with that poor old man that he had thrown out the window earlier and then telling Pacha he wasn't going to build over his home because he "didn't hear any singing." rather than finally feeling some form of empathy and care for the people living there, which we and Pacha know is the real reason.

    The movie ‘Klaus’ was released at the end of 2019. It’s an incredible hand drawn 2D animated movie that looks 3D. From my understanding, there are a few 3D rendered elements, but the vast majority of it is beautiful 2D animation with a newly incorporated lighting technique!

    And in reference to your comment about celebrity voice actors, you make a good point. The obsession with having celebrities as your voice actors only really started with Robin Williams as the Genie in Aladdin. That was a huge selling point for the movie. From there it just became a popular thing to make celebrities into voice actors. It’s still around quite a bit today, but with the representation of cultures Disney has been trying to accomplish within the past few years, I think their concern has more been to get authentic actors that fit the culture than A-list actors that every American would know. I applaud them for that. 👍🏻

      It started before well before that. Disney cast Eva Gabor in Aristocats and Rescuers. The Fox and the Hound was almost ALL celebrity cast, from Mickey Rooney to Pearl Bailey. The Great Mouse Detective had Vincent Price voice the villain (awesomely). No, they weren't "a-list" actors, but they were names everyone knew, and they were draws to the movie (at least, for the parents buying the tickets).

    • @PixarShark
      @PixarShark 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@liljenborg2517 It obviously wasn’t the first time, but weren’t most of those people you mentioned more stars of stage and radio? 🤔 That was more their casting realm for a long time, I feel. And Robin was the one to really get the ball rolling. Or maybe his was just noticed much more than the ones before since Disney was so financially troubled in the 70s and 80s.

    Yeah no, celebrities getting cast on animated films is unfortunately still happening, and won't stop happening because celebrities became a huge selling point after Disney marketed the shit out of Robin William playing Genie in Aladdin (even though he explicitly requested them not to.)
    Nowadays it depends on the studio. Dreamworks and Illumination films have an all-star cast most of the time, while other studios use a few. I'm pretty sure Hollywood investors don't even consider green lighting an animated film if the cast doesn't have at least ONE popular celebrity.

  • @PixarShark
    @PixarShark 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    While I would love to see another hand drawn animated film again, somebody pointed something out that I think is an unfortunate truth. CGI animation nowadays seems to be more family oriented in the public eye, while traditional animation has somehow cemented into peoples’ brains as “kids’ stuff”. Seems like the last couple of traditionally animated movies put out by Disney or otherwise have been badly received compared to the computer animated ones and I fear that might be part of it.

    • @artsysabs
      @artsysabs 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hm that's a weird thought 🤔 In terms of disney at least traditional and CGI have the same vibes... arent all disney movies family oriented?! 😂

      @@artsysabs Yes, they are! 😆 but for people who are not regular Disney viewers, I think that’s where more of the doubt comes in. Traditional/2D animation seems more evident in kids cartoons more than big budget animated family films nowadays so I think people have made that association.

    There is a lot of celebrity names in the cast of this movie, but I always thought of that as the "new trend". You see, back in the days, most voice over work was made by actual voice actors.
    Disney was among the first with casting the genie from Alladin with famous Robin Williams, but I feel like the celebrity craze really peaked somewhere around Shrek 😆
    I think it works either way, since voice acting and regular acting really isn't too different. But sometimes it feels like they put big names in a movie just to draw a croud, and it feels a bit cheap.

    Disney did try going back to their 2D formula with The Princess and the Frog in 2009 and the movie didn't perform as well as they wanted it to. Before that, their last theatrical 2D releases were Bambi II in 2006, also underperformed, and Home in the Range on 2004, which underperformed a lot. CGI brought the big bucks and when Tangled in 2010 outperformed The Princess and the Frog Disney didn't look back.
    Edit: Oh, I forgot about Winnie the Pooh in 2011. I think that was the real last attempt cause that one underperformed too. 😅

    10:00 _"Back in the Day,"_ from your perspective, yes I guess they did use celebrities. But the *true* _back in the day,¹_ that wasn't the case. It was less common to have celebrities doing voices in an animated film. You might have *one,* _maaayybe._ But then it became all the rage. And now, virtually everyone who's in an animated film is voiced by someone famous. Which is why many modern animated films are being sold based on the voice talent involved.
    *Re:* _The Tick,_ I was more a fan of the 1994 cartoon.

    I'm not sure if I've already commented this on one of your past videos or not, but I can't recommend enough that you watch the Disney movie Dinosaur from the year 2000. It's on Disney+. In my opinion; Dinosaur's a criminally underrated masterpiece, and one of the two greatest Disney movies of all time alongside The Lion King (1994). But that's just my opinion. Please don't get angry at me and please respect my opinion

    In Japan, their studio only do motion pictures, no CGI... If only it were still like that in our territory
    Kronk works for Ysma because he gets paid for working for her.

    Technically, Princess and the Frog (2009) and the Winnie the Pooh (2011) were Disney trying to return to Hand-Drawn Animation after a time of doing fully CG films...and both underperformed at the box office. Meanwhile, Tangled (2010) and Wreck-It Ralph (2012) performed extraordinary well comparatively. And then Frozen happened...which was basically the nail in the coffin for Hand-Drawn Animation for Disney.
    Granted, other companies have been trying. There's a European company responsible for hand-drawn Gaelic films such as Secret of Kells who have been doing well for themselves. Not to mention Klaus on Netflix did exceptionally well. So...maybe, in the future, Disney will try Hand-Drawn again...but it's most likely not going to be any time soon.

    A movie I want to mention is "Titan A.E.". I think you would love it, but it is probably not a good fit for your daughters yet.
    It is not from disney and gets often overlooked, but for me as a Star Trek fan it is one of the best kids movies ever made.

    The tick was great. It was before its time and aimed at adults back when they thought superheroes were just for kids so the marketing was weird. It never had a big following and was expensive to produce so it got canceled.

    One detail that you didn't saw was that the tiny tent that Kronk has is over his crotch. It's a visual pun for "raising a tent", if you catch my drift.
