We retired to Northern Michigan in 2019. We got real lucky getting a waterfront property on East Grand Traverse Bay before things exploded. We love living here. You are right the feeling of community is great and we have made many new friends our age. They are all very active and friendly. I'm paying the same property tax on my waterfront property as we did on our home in Pennsylvania on a cornfield. Our Home Insurance is lower, car insurance is much higher. While winters are cold, our home has a very efficient geo thermal system and I pay less in utilities than I did in a much warmer climate. There are truly 4 seasons and we both love having a true winter where you can get outside and do things. I'm enjoying your videos.
The best place to retire is where you want too. Northern Michigan is not my cup of tea. The weather blows for me. Happy you like it. Lived in Southern Michigan for much of my life. Went South as soon as I retired. I ride motorcycles, not snowmobiles, to each their own. Traverse City, Charlevoix affordable? Enjoy the winter, Merry Christmas!
Northern Michigan isn’t for everyone. The main reason I make these videos is to help people decide if they would be happy here or not. The prices here are higher than they were, but still affordable compared to some areas. Thank you for watching!
I am retired and never thought in my life that Petoskey, MI would be the town I'd retire at and hoping this is where I will settle my life! That is to be determined! But so far it's been great!
@@genodangelo , Hi , good evening ! Yes, life is funny and also fantastic especially considering I am actually living here, it took about 2 years but I made it! I am living in Bear Creek Township , renting an apartment right by the high school! What amazing views up here , I am up on a hill! I'm actually from Pennsylvania (Lancaster County ) but have been living here in MI for about 5 years now! I love " PURE MICHIGAN" the nature in this state is what keeps me here! Lancaster area use to be all farm land a long time ago, before that it was a small town . It is now a metropolitan area, so living here in Petoskey also reminds of my other home town , lot's of country side, rolling hills and I love that I have that here too!
Geno what do you think about Lakes of the North? We just bought a lake house in East Leroy and are selling our home in Battle Creek and we are considering buyin a small lot in Lakes of the North and putting a camper on it for now and planning to build a barn with an apartment in it (or something similar). We come up usually twice a year and stay at Boyne Mountain but if we had a place of our own up there we would probably make it up alot more.
Lakes of the North is one of the most under rated communities in Northern Michigan. You get a lot of bang for your buck there. Lots are incredibly affordable.
