  • After much thought, I decided to make a "How-to" video on making my custom Alabama rigs (aka A-rig or umbrella rig). Once you get all the materials, each rig only costs about $3 - $4 to make.
You can make the as flexible or stiff as you like with different pound test strength on the wires. I like heavier, so 325lb rated wire. Links to materials used below:

I like it. For ease, might want to switch from the aluminum rivets to copper crimps (Home Depot electrical department).

Yeah, you can get some on Amazon - 2 for $10. They are what I started with. But, after using them for a few months and getting comfortable with them, I realized that I wanted to build them stronger and cheaper. With using the AFW wire leader, you can make them as firm or flexible as you want...and 30ft is only $4 for 325lbs. AWESOME!!! It took close to 1k casts before the arms start breaking at the head. That was mostly from casting it in the surf where there is a lot of turbulence from the waves crashing it on the sand. MUCH more durable than any other ones. If just casting in open water, you should get many 1k casts before breaking any arms. All in on materials is about $20 or so. Thanks for watching!!!
