I'm so gonna steal that one! Usually I'm so tired and busy in the morning before I go to work, that I don't get literally anything done. Well, if I have time to just sit and wait for my coffee to get ready, I should have time to atleast make the bed, right? 😉😁 Thanks for the tip!
Tuija Roininen I use this trick almost everyday. Our mind gets us stuck somethings or our perfectionism. When I was depressed this is how I started doing stuff. I would wash a few dishes while waiting for the kettle and the next time a few more. It really does help. 😘❤️☕️
You have given me a new lease on life and I'm 61!!! Now, everyday I get dressed to shoes, shine my sink, make my bed, etc. and get outside and walk the dogs. Some of these routines I already practiced, some I did not. However, focusing on these daily "do's" has lifted me out of the overwhelming list of things that need attention and given me a starting point, a launch pad. Thank you! Signed: Hope-full in Hope, Indiana, Melissa Vermillion.
Love this 5x5 method. My final morning timer is the arrival of my son's schoolbus at 0700 hours. There are 3 timers ringing before: -0630 hrs husband leaves the house and thus the bathroom. So I get dressed for work and brush my teeth. -0640 hrs I brush my son's teeth and dress him for school -0650 hrs my son plays in the garden. As the house is empty I can tidy up the little bits and drive to work. Or start my day in a clean house, If I am working from home this day .
👍 Awesome!! I couldn't use five minutes, but after watching this, I reached to accomplish some nice results in ten minutes blocks. Just one trick- pretending someone is coming to the house. 😄 God bless you and your lovely family ⚘🙏🇵🇹
Just a tip for getting your kids involved in cleaning as they get older. When you power tidy, put their things in bins with their names. Then, it's their job to put it away. Once they get the hang of it, have them help you put the things in the bins, and slowly get them involved with more and more of the task. Kids can definitely be held accountable for power tidying their own rooms, play rooms, and taking turns with family areas. Watching the kiddos help you is so cute. Especially little bud helping with laundry!
Janet Thornsberry True! My fondest childhood memories are cleaning with my mother. She sang songs and we had fun. Singing Billy Boy, Shortnin’ Bread, Mairzy Doats. Me on one side of the patio sliding door. She on the other. Or standing in chairs. Me washing dishes, putting them in the rinse water and my sister drying and stacking them. Then we used our chairs to put them up. We imitated our mother and sang her songs. I remember hanging clothes on the clothesline while standing in a chair. Putting on socks and sliding on the freshly waxed wood floors. What fun we had. ❤️
I love the 5 x 5 idea! Thank you so much! It's crazy how fast it transforms the spaces. And it's sooo easy to do another 5 at the end to get the tiny bit left. You rock!
Lol!!! Perfect Video!! Disaster Cleaning is every day as I clean out my hoarded house!!! I HAVE to get back into Flylady 💗💗💗 Thank you for the inspiration!!!
Hi Steph! Keeping it real...and amazing how much can be done in just a few minutes. Your baby is so adorable, trying to fold laundry! Children do as they see for sure
I do a ten minute thing like a weekly home blessing when there is a bunch of tidying to do. Then I usually don’t have to return to any room. I’m not a spring chick so those few more minutes let me get as much done as you do in five! Lol ❤️
🙋Hey Sweet Lady, I found your channel 2 days ago and I am hooked!!!! (I actually have a professional cleaning background and I love your cleaning suggestions.) ("Mama Poppins" is a take on "Mary Poppins". I'm a huge fan of her saying "In every job there is to be done there is an element of fun") You made me think of this as I watched you clean and tidy.☺ A fresh take on cleaning ALWAYS interests me.👍 I suscribed and liked the video👍☺ I appreciate how honest you are and the tone that it is presented in is refreshing. Great job. You have inspired me in a whole new way and I REALLY needed it this week. Thank you. God Bless.
I love how you show your kiddos: (1) your daughter trying to cut your shirt made me lol! (2) your daughter following you up the stairs in her tiger costume! (3) your daughter helping with the garbage was precious
I love that your little ones like to help & even the baby! My son helped me hang up his baby brother’s diapers when he was young by standing on his tricycle. So precious.
Thank you so much! This has changed the game for me. It has taken the overwhelmed feeling away. I tried this last week in our lower level and today on our upper level.
I was so tired yesterday, and the house was trashed - but I managed to get myself into gear and did a 5x5. Ive only just stumbled across your channel and ive already learned so much!
Oh I also clean 1 thing in the bathroom each time I go in so it always stays clean alternating bathrooms as needed. It doesn't take long to clean the mirrors if it's the only thing your doing or change the trash. I keep all the cleaners in each room so no excuses either. This way even detailed cleaning gets done like cleaning the knobs and switches.
I have been sitting here needing to get moving, so thank you for motivating me! I still use your sheets. They are easier than flipping through a binder. I have my clipboard by the bed, and I check off what I have done. Thank you so much for simplifying flylady down to one doable page!!
I’ve just had what feels like a breakthrough moment. From the Why Didn’t I Think of This Sooner Department ... as I’m organising my Control Journal this morning (yes, AGAIN), it occurs to me that if I have five weeks of cleaning schedules, why not marry a Meal Plan to each week? So, each week has an embedded plan for meals. Five weeks of meals gives lots of variety and is quite do-able for shopping and prepping. It removes the pressure to do a new meal plan every week, yet it’s as flexible as I want it to be. I LOVE this!
Tuesday. did my plan and pay day with you today. Decluttered at least 27 pieces of paper from files kept in bedroom closet. My bedroom has just my bed and side table as furnishings, sounds grim but actually fresh and restful! Garden is really the focus for the rest of the summer. We moved a big dump truck of soil by wheelbarrow by doing five loads a day. Took us nearly two months but now complete. I remember the busy days of small children!
Oh my gosh, your little man has gotten so BIG! I love that you are teaching your kids early to help out. This video was just what I needed to get me up and motivated to tidy my home. TY
Hi there! Just wanted to say hello and hope youre fine. You look gorgeous still with 3 kids! Remember I said I was pregnant? Now I got a three weeks old daughter! We are so thankful to the Lord! I felt like having a quick inspiring look into your channel again! You keep it up! Love your kids helping! Even your boy!🥰😂😍 So cute!! All of you! God bless you. Thank you for sharing inspiration!
Hey Steph.....life is life....don't be so hard on yourself.... cannot always be on top of things. You are a great mom.and wife. When I feel overwhelmed...I try to do 15 mins task per hour all day long....
I’m currently enjoying a break at my in-laws for the week. Nothing but a bit of tidying and dishes! And lots of helping in the garden. But that’s kind of fun.
Awe your kids are adorable and your daughter is a good helper. My daughter always was too. She’s grown now and is still a great housekeeper. Thanks for the video ❤️
Oh my goodness! He was copying mommie!! How adorable 😍 is he !!! Thanks for the 5×5 really helps this mommie!! I have had a lazy week hard to get motivated. Everything looks great girl!!💛
I do something similar to the 5 x 5 but instead I pull up spotify and do each room for X songs. I've found some good upbeat playlists that get me going. If I have run out of things to do (short of deep cleaning/decluttering) before the song ends, I use it for a room that had shorter songs or more needing to be done.
5 by 5 is a great idea when things are crazy! And just fitting it in where I can works great with a new baby. Thanks for showing it's possible to have a clean home easily!
Love the 5 x 5 trick. I think I could actually handle that! Do you find it odd that I love watching you clean, but absolutely hate cleaning my own house? Lol! Keep inspiring. Someday I hope to get where you are with housekeeping.
Turned the TV off n was headed to bed when your video showed up 👁 👁 so ok.... got my timer n set for 5 minutes X 5 and Kitchen, Living room, bedroom, bathroom and one more to make five and get all rooms rounded up.... Was in no way painful or tedious ~ loved working with your idea and your other ladies n gents!
Hey! You should consider getting a roomba - it’s been a lifesaver for us! No more crumbs or dust on the floor. Living with kids is messy but now we just need to vacuum the baseboards once in a while. Now we get to spend more time doing stuff we love.
Steph...you are a great motivater!!! I'm older & although I don't relate to the little children & chaos, I can get bogged down by other issues. ME... I can (& do) become my worst stumbling block. Yikes, I can come up with more "excuses!" WHY? But I must push through!!! Corona seems to have slowed me down. Not always, but some days I feel a bit vulnerable. I have to stop & pray & clobber whatever I can. Getting started can be the easiest/hardest thing ever. Ok, thanks for that counselling session. Hahaha. Let's do this, people!! I appreciate you soooo much, Steph!! Thanks for coaching us into a cleaner 🏠 house. Keep on fighting the good fight. Much love and respect to you from St John's Michigan.
SO cute that your baby was watching you fold the sheet and trying his hardest to fold the little clothes in his hands! I've watched this video twice and that is THE best part of everything! Love it!! P.S. Your 5x5 system is awesome :D

Thanks for the comment :) Yes, I am aware of the issue with Bumbos, I just make sure I'm there with him when he's sitting in it. He loves it since he likes to be part of the action but can't quite sit on his own yet ;)
Great video & tips. I especially agree about feeling better when the floors are clean. I have pink carpets in my lounge & a yellow one in my dining room & they show every spec of dust etc. I don’t hoover them every day but I do use a carpet sweeper. Also, I feel so much better when my kitchen worktops are tidy & all wiped down.
Thanks Steph! These baseline FL routines are keeping me sane & my house manageable as I complete a particularly challenging project for my job this week (working from home & SO thankful for the opportunity to do that!). Without FL, I'd feel overwhelmed & stressed right now from housework-chaos, but my routines and systems keep me "afloat." :-)
Loved this idea 5×5 so much!! I will start doing it. Im in my 3rd trimester so one hour is a bit long for me, 25 sounds perfect. So happy to see your videos as always

Loved this Steph, especially as I'd been away for 6 days to visit my 91 yr old Dad leaving husband and son at home alone. It was like a horror story when I returned! Xx
Kettle cleaning works when I’m feeling overwhelmed. Every time I make a cup of tea I do something while waiting for the kettle. 👍
Cool!! I do microwaving too :D
That’s a great idea! I do love my tea ☕️

Love the timer trick. Makes it feel much less overwhelming and almost like a race!

Your little man is so gorgeous! I love how he is helping you folding laundry. Its like he imitates what you are doing. ❤️
I know!!
I love the fact that you include your children. Good mom!
Your youngest daughter ... trying to cut your sweater! Never a dull moment! You’re such a great mom! I love the 5 x 5! Keeps everything doable!
