In smash bros there is a mechanic called tumble. Some moves send you in tumble and it means that you cannot fast fall I believe. Doing any action takes you out of tumble and Esam like the smart man he is uses the move on his kit that has the least lag (up air) to get out of tumble state. This means that he can be ambiguous with his landings, not letting LeoN know if he is going to fast fall or not
The problem with mainly only one character, is that you WILL have a bad matchup. Leon plays a mean bowser, but as you can see here, pika mains can exploit bowsers hitbox, his recovery, and the simple fact that bowsers toolset CANNOT answer every issue. Sometimes you gotta stop, assess, figure out what you keep getting hit by, why, then figure out if you just happen to have a terrible matchup
Weird, really. Pressure gets the best of us, I think he tried to reverse that uptilt but it truly is weird as sideB is frame 6 outofshield and uptilt is frame 15, not the best option at all.
I didn't even know piston punch was this efficient I used it in 4 for recoveries, but mostly helicopter kick for combos...but smash ultimate....and still seeing mii brawler..... -_-
Honestly I think what makes LeoNs matches against top players so fun to watch is seeing Bowser get the snot beat out of him. 😄 LeoN still makes it close so it's exciting, Bowser puts you at kill percent in like three moves, but I just want to sit back and watch those 80 hit combos man.
I think Leon should abuse more fire vs pikachu as he does to other characters, pikachu isn't inmune to that and the fire can scoop that rat's upB from a lot of angles just by pointing it to the ledge
Leon should've punished all of those air dodges Esam was throwing out. He did it so many times and he didn't even try to bait it a few times atleast. Ik it's different playing in game against a player but I thought that's something he could've been starting to take advantage of
Actually ESAM hates pressing random buttons. He doesn't like things like dash dancing because he cannot react if he is pressing buttons. His playstyle is very reactive
Looking frame by frame ESAM was only -4 or at worst -5 on shield. Bowser up B is frame 6 so it would lose to shield too and doesn't kill. Side B would lose to spot dodge (which ESAM often does in this situation) and probably jump too. LeoN covered spot dodge, probably jump et could have trade so up tilt was definitely a good choice. The only safer thing LeoN could have done is retreat. But I'm not blaming him for losing this interaction since it was just rps

@@kisu_ve625 -9 is UFD numbers however it does not account for auto cancel. You can also watch ESAM's video about frame data where he shows he can consistently get fair to be less negative on shield. Also note that it's not because up B is frame 6 oos and fair is -9 that it is punishable, indeed Pika can drift back so he lands so far that Bowser up B won't hit on the 1st active frame. Here it was just an autocancel so no landing lag and there was no true punish

Long answer: Smash bros is fundamentally different to other fighting games due to it being a platform fighter. This means the movement is centered around how well characters move around a stage. In other fighting games, stages are usually the same with different aesthetics. In smash bros, each stage has different platforms, kill zones, and sizes that players need to be cognizant of. Counterpicking characters based on well they perform on that stage is why both players get the option to change characters, with the winner going first.
It wasn't his choice, his percent was much higher so ESAM had more control. And this is hard to do but if ESAM could react quickly enough he might've been able to hold to the right and forced LeoN to suicide.
