This final table is still one of my all time favorites. Production quality is top notch. Tons of swings. Some great plays, some pure melt downs. Interesting, entertaining personalities. Lon and Norm being the best. Just so happy to watch this again.

Dannemann was the best story of the 2005 WSOP by a mile. Gotta love it when people win while having fun. He crushed it in the T.O.C. tourney from this year as well.
Amazing person. That's why it probably stung Phil Hellmuth the most when Danneman spoke up to him in the Tournament of Champions.

You don't like hipster announcers who have to talk and talk about analysis while they can see both player's hole cards? And they either think the audience are either fools or try to show their intelligence by going in depth about new age strategy. Oh yeah, and they have to mention in every conceivable way a player in the hand has a 'blocker'

I remember he had Ace 10. Flop came ace, ace, something. TURN or STREET would have had Quad Aces!!! Ahhhh!!!
Snap called the all in with K9 for over 1/3rd of his chips then did the same with Q10 off the next hand.
He must've had work early in the morning.

@elAndy23 people always credit the boom to "The Moneymaker effect" that's not the case... It was ESPN's coverage, it could have been anybody, If Sam Farha calls the bluff and wins, history is almost the same... Moneymaker just made it more marketable... He was a young, Joe 6 pack American. What won the most from Chris's victory was Poker Stars and online poker.

You could see his expression change after that hand and the Andrew black hand. The classic MM blowup was brewing and it showed.

Calls an All-in with Q-10 off, sees Black's hand and says "ahawe" like he got massively coolered in the MAIN... He must have put Andrew Black on J-10.
Scott Lazar's blowup I think was one of the most iconic in WSOP history
no one really remembers it there were worse blowups than this
@antzooma Andrew Black that same year, starting as the huge chip leader with 10 to go in a very inexperienced field.
@antzooma Lazar's calls vs All-ins with K-9 and Q-10 were just silly... He blames that A-5 (quads) but after the flop, 3 players with that board, not many chips are going in... He's acting like he's gonna rake huge chips in that spot.
@antzooma "you wanna gamble, I'll gamble wit ya!" Sees his behind with Q-10, "awhh!" Like he's been massively coolered. That's probably the worst final table pre-flop call in the history of the final table.
Black hardly blew up. He got Dannielman all in being a 75% favorite for what would have been a massive chip lead. Black got quite unlucky.
Norm's commentary on this broadcast was particularly savage. 😂 Also, I know Dannenmann got lucky, but what a class act.
The final table come back from Hachem was incredible. That final table was incredible! Everybody was a class act. I'm so happy to see this again.
And Raymer's run in 2004 and 2005 was second to none!
I don't think Matusow gets enough credit for getting so far 4 years in a row. He was definitely tv gold as well

@@StephenLella yeah, I didn't realize at the time, but rewatching these shows he definitely had an ability to sniff out bluffs, it just so happens a lot of semi bluffs got there
This is my first time watching this (18 years later) & I binged all 7 days! Without looking up the winner, I really wanted Dannenmann to win, but if he lost to anyone, I’m glad it was Hachem. Two Class Acts! I’m just happy the Sheik guy didn’t make the Final Table! Guy just seems to wake up angry. I’ve always liked Poker (specifically Hold em’) & I usually play monthly with my friends, but these videos have given me a whole new appreciation & love for the game! I always play Hold Em’ Bonus when I go to AC & Vegas, but that’s only against the Dealer. I now wanna play on an actual table..

Of all the recent WSOP main event winners, Hachem has by far been the best ambassador for the game after his win.

This was the GREATEST FINAL TABLE ever. It finished the two-coolest gentleman in Poker. I seen Joe Hachem, 2005 World Series of Poker Champion, on the Tonight Show with Marischa Hatigay. That was the most interesting Tonight Show in history. Ausie, Ausie, Ausie 7 of Clubs/3 of Spades!!! Mark.

I still haven't made it through the 23 main event on my DVR but here I am watching these epic older videos. Where they took the time to edit down everything to make an awesome story. Where now it just seems they turn the cameras on and just let it roll.. no effort in the editing room anymore.
i completely agree. the production value alone brought thousands of players to play the MAIN EVENT, not just play poker. i wish they still did it like this so bad
And what's the fun in watching every single hand? Like, I get there's some interest, but it can go so slow sometimes.. And there's no real story imo

MAN! Lazar was on total tilt after that missed Quad hand... great example of why you should leave the table for a few mins when you are on tilt!

What was that 3 bet by A. Black when he flopped a set of 5's against Kantar? Did he not want the rest of Aaron's chips?
I think he didn't want to see a club. If a club came that didn't pair the board he'd lose to any flush and would have a hard time getting more chips from Kanter. There were also many cards that would complete straights. Also, Kanter might have called Black with top pair if he put Black on a draw.
There were many scare cards that could have slowed down the action on the turn. The 3, 6, 8, and 9 cards complete straights. Any club completes a flush draw. An ace or queen on the turn would be an overcard to Kanter's pair.

Man Lazar's snap call with K9s basically paved the way for Hachem winning the whole thing. If he folds to Joe's shove who knows if Hachem ever doubles up and goes on to win.
Mr. Lazar, I know it's unlikely that you'll see this message. But I'm proud of you. Addiction is such a struggle that a lot of people have trouble understanding. And I hope you are continuing to be well.

I called the king coming at 1:03:24. My reasoning was cuz the 77s in the previous hand just one the flip so the pockets would lose this time. So I said I feel a king coming on the turn. I thought it was pretty cool.

That A6 of Steve vs Andy's T9 is still one of the most devastating hands I've ever seen. The look on Andy's face when the A hits the river- just nauseating. It was pure meltdown for Black after that--we've all been there.
Most devastating ever has to be Affleck's AA vs Duhamel's JJ where Duhamel rivers the straight. Also super gross.

I think if no ace shows on lazars folded A5 then he doesn't blow up. it's happened to me and i felt like it owed me so i would gamble afterwards.

I can't believe Black bet/three-bet a set on that flop with the 55. What a horrible waste. With as aggressive as Kanter was I would've flat-called 100%. Let him go nuts on the turn.

@@HopyHop1he even mentioned it was a big pot. He was happy taking it down with no chance of kanter drawing to a club. He cant see that kanter didnt have them but he had to be thinking he did. I mean i can see why he should have bleed him dry but i also understand why he didnt. One chance in a lifetime for most humans to be there, u dont want to leave anything at chance.

they show them at the beginning. the levels are so long and the structure is so good it doesnt matter.

So funny how Mike truely believes these crazy, unlucky circumstances happen to him the most in tournaments (like he gets coolered or gets bad beat) Everybody in that tournament ran into coolers/bad beats... Mike got very lucky and was on the giving end of more coolers and bad beats than 99% of players innthat tournament.
You are a right. All these players were extremely lucky to made it with more than 5 thousands players in the tournament. But in the final table he got unlucky. He played much better than many winners of the tournament. He would have never gone all in with A6 with a 9 on the flop like the guy in the second place did just with one pair. And what about the donkey Kanter…
@El.Espartano Even worse, Scott Lazar's calls!! With Kanter, that's how poker was played back then, Power Poker, I know they are bad shoves, but in his defense those were pretty good shoves for his skill level, he's not going to outplay or get reads on guys on the turn or river. The one element that is lost for all these hands, is they show 30 minutes of hands for 14 hours of play, he could have been tight tight etc, and thought he could get a fold etc.

my guess even though it seems very unlikely is AhKh. He could just call 3b pre when suited, raise flop as it looks so fos, although the flop raise would be the most confusing part of the hand. Check back turn with TPTK + NFD as he fears no river(he's already dead to AA and KK) and then just calling river thinking likely hands are bluffs or hands that beat him or tie. I dont think he can have a slow played AA as he's missing value against the 6 AKs KAnter could have and only losing to 3 KKs. He' probably just gets AA it in pre anyway.
...or having rewatched it, he possibly had something like AhTh, and raised flop as it would be so difficult for Kanter to continue with anything less than a K. He then checked back when he turned a flush draw and on river made a crying call with A high getting 6 1/2 to 1 . If he had AK he would snap the river or raise and not look so pained

Terrible re-raise on the flop by Andy Black in that hand against Kantor when he flopped bottom set against Kantor's top pair. He should have slowed played that hand....no way is Kantor raising that hand with a flush draw (which his the only hand that Black could have been afraid to be up against). He let Kantor get off easy with that re-raise to 5 mil.
Andy black misplayed that set of 55s. If you was coy and slow played he coukd have made more... that coukd have really vaulted him to win it bc he was chip leader then
