Awesome project Jelle. Your hands tell exactly how sharp that wire mesh is. Very cool the way you broke down why you built it the way you did. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much for this video! I really don't need another project but omg, always wanted to build something like this, you really got my creative juices flowing!
Bravo Jelle, the most inspiring concrete ‘pot’ I’ve seen n you clearly have an artistic bent despite your denial ! I liked this video very much, thanx n God bless you 🙏✝️ ✌️🇷🇺☮️🇺🇦✌️
Thanks for the inspiring video! Thanks also for showing a way to not use plastics, since I would like to avoid all plastic materials while gardening. I will definitely make a pot with this technique.
Looking forward to you adding trees to this, definitely a "different display" . Well done, looks like you have inspired a lot of people to try this style.
Detailed and inspiring walkthrough, and the result came out good. Want to try myself but maybe I end up covered in bloodstains, am so friggin clumsy lol.
@@GrowingBonsai gg evergreen - she has just put out a video asking people to do a more artistic landscape/penjing. they have to inlcude things not tried before...

Definitely want to try this one day! Thanks for the instructions :) I have this vision of making something with a hint of Kimura. Going to try cutting up /sculpting aerated concrete blocks first as I can't find lumps of pumice!
Awesome tutorial again Jelle. By using fibreglass instead of concrete, you can make sure you have a much lighter construction, and still be just as strong. ;-) maybe try that in a tutorial too?
I am not sure what it is called. It is a cement-like powder which is added to cement-based products to make them water-closed. It is used in building basements here!
Great work Jelle, it looks awesome! I saw that you cut yourself quite a bit. Around our area in hardware stores you can find aluminum mesh (it comes in big rolls and is usually around 30€, but you get like 50 times the mesh compared to what you used). The aluminum mesh isn’t as sharp, it isn’t as stable either but it is way finer. You can really shape it well without hurting yourself and it catches the cement very well, I’ve tried it!
Have you tried hypertufa? Basically adding perlite and/or coconut coir to the cement mixture. The perlite will add beneficial aspects to the medium. Give it a search. Cheers!
Oh, wow, I'm loving these shapes. I've never seen anything like it; it is absolutely fantastic. What was the material you added to make the cement waterproof? Because the small mesh is so stiff and prone to cutting fingers, have you ever tried filling the holes of the largest mesh with something like papier-mâché before adding the concrete?
If it's fully enclosed by the waterproof cement, there shouldn't be an issue with freezing and expansion. If there are still occasional gaps in coverage, then yes I suppose you're right.
This stuff is cement-based tile glue. I am sure there are loads of additives to make it somewhat flexible and durable! But I just use it as it comes from the package!
You mention, "can find in any garden centre". In my country you cannot find cement at any garden centre. And when I ask them what pots are made of, they cannot tell me. So I Google a lot, and watch TH-cam. It seems I will have to learn over here by trial and error. I will have to try different cements, and see what works. Even I our building material stores I struggle to find the right advice.
@@GrowingBonsai wow ok so just outdoor tile adhesive. I’ll give it a try, I’m toying with finding the right formula at the moment but most people keep there rock formulas a secret
:) Oh, thank you so much!. I do have gloves, but for some things it just does not work the same way. So in this case I consciously decided to not use them!

Ooohw, that is a great suggestion! Maybe I should plant this up!
@Growing Bonsai by Jelle Absolutely Jelle wouldn't know what to suggest though.
Thanks for showing us how this is done! I'm very interested in trying this.
You should! Do drop me a line telling how it went!

Very inspirational! I will try this eventually. Thanks Jelle! 🐦💙
Have fun! (It IS fun as long as no stitches are needed!)
That’s quite creative Jelly!
Also the pattern you cut in your hands! ;-)

Great video. May well give that a go in the near future. Thanks

re. paper mache.. Feels like that would be prone to trouble once it gets wet & frozen?

Hm.. Hardware store? Try to find the material made for natural stone and permanent outdoor use (Extra flexible?)
Hi, just wondering what concrete mix you used for the final coatings? Was it different to what you used for the base? Thankyou
It is all the same stuff! Just mixed a bit of grout colouring in there
@@GrowingBonsai thankyou, I translated and came to the conclusion that it was basement tanking slurry you used? Am I correct?
