I lost a pair at an amusement park..it was flume ride, they fell in the water and disappeared. I got LASIK about 2 years ago so I don’t have to worry about that anymore,lol.

This is realistic. I had the exact same experience when I was ten. I shot at a metal sign, and the BB came back in a straight line and hit me under my right eye, just like it did to Ralphie. It scared me to death that I had come very close to "shooting my eye out."
A friend of mine wasn't as lucky he had a BB bounce back & hit him in the tear duct of his eye & the doctor's said they wouldn't remove it, it would only make his eye worse so he'll have that BB inside his eye for the rest of his life

Kid learned 2 valuable lessons that day, always wear eye protection, and don't shoot at metal signs. Also the Dad should have supervised him on proper firearm safety before letting kid go off play with a serious toy like that.
At the very least keep the metal sign angled away. In fact that goes for real guns too, steel targets are terrifying.
His dad had a bb gun when he was 8 so he probably thought it was no big deal. But you're right about wearing eye protection and not shooting at metal signs.
One year my dad and I were out Christmas shopping for my mom on Christmas Eve and he said, ‘I think I want to go to Academy to look for a Red Ryder BB gun.’ and I replied back, ‘No, you’ll shoot your eye out!’ 😂

That gets better every year I watch it. Even though I am jewish I have a tradition of watching 24 hours of A Christmas Story every year. I am sure when I have kids they will watch it too.

I’m surprised she fell for it, an icicle hitting him like that haha, although generally when you make a “white lie” on the spot like that it has a somewhat good chance of working, especially when you’re a kid as adults don’t except them to think of lies so quickly. Especially during distress.

Haha. I had something like that happen when I was around 10 years old. I had a Crossman pumpmaster bb gun and shot at a tree with it and the bb bounced back and hit me in the cheek. Left a red mark and I remember thinking how lucky I was to not shoot my eye out. I made up a story that I was sliding down the hill and flipped over and went head first into the snow and scratched my face. That Crossman bb gun had a lot more power than the Daisy ones did. Mine was one of those ones you could pump up to six times for max power and it could shoot a hole through a juice can but the Daisy one my friend had would just bounce off.

This movie reminds me of a time when I asked my mom to go out and play during the winter and she said no because it was dangerously slippery outside and I’d hurt myself. So later that day she went to hang out with a neighbor in my my building and I snuck out and went to go play. Sure enough I slipped and hit my head against the wall and got a giant knot on my forehead. Safe to say I learned my lesson

I now have a Red Ryder, too (still in box, though) but obviously I would be way more careful than that and use real safety glasses.
Heh, I do have a Red Ryder, but I also learned that it's by and far better to use something like Styrofoam or cardboard than to use metal, since a BB pellet going at 550mph is still gonna do fucking nasty damage if allowed to hit something to deflect back, like metal. Archery is a good friend with that.

I had a Daisy BB gun as a kid. Had gun safety drilled into my head beforehand so I was rather careful. I was given the BB Gun for practice and to get a good grasp on aiming before moving onto things like the .22 and the 30-06. Pretty sure it's sitting around at a relative's as a decoration, might use it on rodents as pest control, though a more powerful pellet gun may be more suitable for that.
