This film was so spot on with how they portrayed kids' imaginations. Kids typically only create fantasy situations with people in their own lives, and be a hero to those people. In this case, it was his own immediate family.
I’m still a kid, but when I was younger like 6 when I had fantasies in my mind I would think of my own house with people I don’t know or know so yea your correct
My VFW member August still has his Red Ryder carbine he bought back in the 30s
That's how I was when I was a kid and Kingdom Hearts 1 came out.
100% correct. People who aren't big fans of this movie, I tell them that it's from the imagination of a child and it's so accurate as to how kids see things/do things
My grandpa loved this movie so much, I can remember watching this when I was little and I asked "grandpa what is he doing?" Grandpa's answer was "he's thinking what he would do if he had a BB gun." This movie will always remind me of grandpa.
Same thing with my Papa. He passed away last June.

My grandfather who's 84 and quit chewing tobacco probably 40 years ago cracks up at this scene every single Christmas day when we watch it. Cracks him up without fail and I record it every year

There wasn’t a small lizard that survived...and we didn’t wear eye protection!
Plus we held can shooting competitions, from 20 feet!

The idiot prop master gave him real chew when they were gonna film this scene. Needless to say, it didn't go to well. Everyone else was smart enough to just give him some crushed raisins to spit instead after.

They gave him real dip, he then starts throwing up and Bob Clark yells “he’s only 12 years old” Peter Billingsley the actor said on a podcast they gave him a bunch of raisins. Pretty funny

i live in SE wisconsin, every year since they started doing the 24hr marathon, watching this movie has been my family's tradition every christmas

The exterior of the house was filmed in Cleveland while the interior was filmed in Toronto. This dream segment was filmed in two of those different locations and was shot months apart.
That spit at the end is great.

I did when I was 5 years old, but I was a ninja karate master. Because I watched Jackie Chan a lot, and played nes Ninja Gaiden, and watched the parts of Ninja Scroll that my older brother would let me watch. I'd dream I would bust in and kick so much ass, I'd daydream about it til I fell asleep. I'd save the princess too. (Basically the girI I played tag with at recess)

Mothers know nothing about creeping marauders burrowing through the snow toward the kitchen where only you and you alone stand between your tiny, huddled family and insensate evil.
This was a great, classic scene! Although, re-watching it sort of creeps me out now...the way those burglars are crawling over fences and down the telephone pole reminds me of films that feature possessed people, and their movements

@@anonymousmobster2444 Yeah, and unlike the abominations of either 2 or the LA Musical, it makes sense because Ralphie is a kid, one that doesn't have that much live experiences aside from what he heard on radio or, on the rare occasion, watched in a theater. For a family that lived through the Depression, they look well off, likely due to a manufacturing boom (probably on the offset of WWII considering it's circa. 1940)

I read that the prop guy gave him real red man chew and he got sick as a dog and had to lay down on the couch till it got out of his system. Then they gave him raisins.

You completely fail to understand the fantasy... they're not smart enough because the fight is 200% onesided. All boys imagine themselves super tough. I suppose they could have gotten guns, but if they did, they'd be such poor shots they might as well not have.
Actually I take that back. If you look at the body of the first burglar, while he's writhing, there is a pistol (looks like a Luger) near his arm. That guy at least got a gun...
