    Thanks for the video, I am looking at getting one of your 3000 watt inverters, can you tell me are the 240 volts sockets 15 amp ? I want to be able to connect one straight to my 240 volt system in my caravan through an automatic changeover switch and would need to run a 15 amp cable to do so.

    • @KickAssProducts
      @KickAssProducts  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ian, the sockets on our inverter are 240V 10A, as 15A sockets would require considerably more power. Unfortunately, backfeeding 240V of any amperage into the sockets of the inverter will destroy the internal components, and so we strongly recommend against permanently mounting this into a 240V system that runs both mains power and inverted power.

    actually, the one main reason why i wanted to look at inverters is so I can run an aircon using solar. But you don't recommend it, why is that?

    • @KickAssProducts
      @KickAssProducts  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would depend on an aircon, and in majority of cases the current draw is too high meaning potential harm and damage to your battery.

    • @andrewford80
      @andrewford80 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You would need an enormous battery bank to run an AC for any extended period of time.
      Our split system AC uses about 1.5kw initially to get the room down to temp, the spike when it turns on is possibly higher but I've not measured it. Once the room is down to temp, it cycles between bugger all and 700w.
      So depending how long we run it, and what the ambient conditions are, it can use over 1KW per hour, or 1kwh every hour.
      If you had a 12v battery bank and wanted to run that AC for 3 hours a day, you would need:
      3kwh = 3000wh
      3000wh at 12v is 250AH
      To not go below 50% state of charge, you want at least a 500AH battery.
      Not to mention, you're pulling 1500w through a 12v system which is 125Amps. You're going to need some serious cables to cope with that also.

    • @KickAssProducts
      @KickAssProducts  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Nems, the size of the inverter that you require is actually determined by the appliances you are wanting to use. So if you have a 700w Kettle, you will require at minimum a 1000w inverter.

    • @jimlloyd2961
      @jimlloyd2961 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nems.
      Further to yoru question, you would never connect your battery's in Series. If you are looking for maximum output for yoru Inverter. You should run your 12 volt battery's in parallel. If you run 12 Volts batteries in Parallel the Voltage (12 Volts) stays the same and the Amps (output capacity) would double. (in the case you connect two batteries together).
      Also worth noting, is the battery Amp/Hr rating must be the same. I.e: You shouldn't connect a 120A/Hr battery with a 100A/hr battery.
      Hope this helps.

    Just on modified sine wave, I was always under the impression that due to the power sine wave created that your better off using them for simple electronics such as fans and not to use them for charging complex devices such laptops with the possibility of damaging the battery or electronics

    • @phylaxxx
      @phylaxxx 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The advantage of a pure sine wave inverter is actually only really seen when operating things such as fans, fridges or anything else with an ac motor. There are also a few smaller things such as electric toothbrush chargers and sensitive medical equipment that require a pure sine wave to avoid permanent damage. Back to the ac motors, you can run them on a modified sine wave but they become very inefficient and will run slower and hotter then normal and tend to create a buzzing sound. As for computers and pretty much anything else that lies in the realm of battery charging, a modified sinewave inverter is generally just fine because the ac power is rectified back into dc by a switchmode power supply (known to most as the power brick). This is however quite inefficient as you are going from dc to ac back to dc and might as well just get a boost / buck converter and skip the ac (inverter) step entirely.

    • @jims353
      @jims353 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Suggestion use a Pure Sine Wave inverter.Instead of Modified one.

    I am working on a machine that gives me 64 DC volts. Do I want to feed that into an inverter or convert to AC first? I will be able to produce 240dc volts. Making it usable, the best way. Any ideas?

    • @KickAssProducts
      @KickAssProducts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The inverter converts from DC to AC as well as increases the voltage. A transformer converts AC to DC and lowers the voltage.
      You will just need to ensure that the inverter you use can handle you 64 Volt DC input.

    But does this gadget unnecessarily scream a bloodcurdling, deal·breaking beep when it's unhappy?
    And is it totally useless when the engine is shut off?

    • @KickAssProducts
      @KickAssProducts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      HI, The alarm is to warn you that your battery voltage is to low and therefore is in danger of being permanently damaged.
      The inverter requires a 12/24 volt DC power source to convert to 240v AC. If you are running an inverter directly from your vehicle's electrical system then yes you need to have the engine running so the the alternator can provide a power source.
      If you need to run an inverter while you vehicle is not running then you need to provide another power source such as an auxiliary deep cycle battery system.

    • @KickAssProducts
      @KickAssProducts  ปีที่แล้ว

      G'day Nick,so many facters involved but here is a quick calculation you can do
      As a simple rule, multiply battery amp-hours (Ah) by 12 to find watt-hours, and divide by the load watts to find run time hours. Finally, multiply run time hours by 95% to account for inverter losses.

      Hi Errol, You needs to check the power requirements of the microwave, but as a general rule we would recommend 2x 120 A/H AGMs to run a microwave as to share the current draw.
      1500 watts will draw around 135 amps DC. Drawing this much power continuously from one battery can lower its cycle life.

    • @KickAssProducts

      You will need at least 2. But it will depend on what you want to be able to run and how long you want to run it for. For example running at the full 2000 watts (8 amps) for one hour will require approximately 176 aH of battery.

  • @needsomehike
    @needsomehike 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    When calculating inverter vs appliance numbers all we have to do is to calculate the Wattage? with 20% "head room" 800W appliance needed a 1000W inverter? Don't we have to calculate Amps as well?
    e.g. No.1, load that needed 800W, 800W / 240V = 3.33, so we need 3.3 Amps .1000W / 240V = 4.16 Amps. so we can power the load with a 1000W inverter.
    e.g. No.2, at 7:52 the microwave oven is drawing 1200W. inverter can output 2000W/240=8.3Amps, the oven needed 1200W/240= 5 Amps so we can power that oven.
    is this the right way to calculate it or is there an error in my thinking>?

      You need to calculate how much you are drawing from the 12v battery dc, not from 240v ac. So you need to divided by12. 1200w/12v = 120amp dc . You are drawing 120 amp from your battery if you use your 1200w microwave.

    Hi there. If i buy the 2000w inverter to power a 1200w microwave, can i connected to my hiace normal 80ah battery. It is just to use it about 5 minutes a day. Or i need a extra battery connected to the main one. Thanks

      @KickAssProducts  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The simple answer is: divide the load watts by 10 for a 12 volt system. Make sure your system can handle that load. so a 1200 Watt microwave would draw 120 amps DC and possibly up to 240 Amps on surge. You need to ensure that your battery can handle that kind of discharge.

    Hi, will the 2000w pure sine invertor, run a 2000w (8.6A) induction hob?

    • @KickAssProducts
      @KickAssProducts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Tejet. as explained in the video It is a good idea to give yourself a 20% head room when running an inverter. So a 2500-3000 watt inverter would suit you better.
      You will also need a substantial battery bank of at least 2x170 AH batteries. Be advised the 2000W at 12 Volt DC will draw around 170 - 180 Amps from your batteries so at 100% you would need to recharge 340AH worth of AGMs batteries after 1 hour. At 50% 2 hours etc.
      If you only need to use your hob for a short amount of time between charges then a system like this would be fine. However If you need to be cooking for longer periods of time between charges a Gas hob would be a lot more efficient as even a 8.5 KG LPG bottle will give you a lot more sustained heat for a lot longer.
      I hope this helps.
