I think it took a long while for Bob to get out of the mindset he had with Phelps. Bob was intense but Phelps might have been even more insanely driven than even Bob from 2000-2008. By all accounts Bob was an ass for a long while and that likely stemmed from the very narrow focused relationship he had with Phelps. You could see it changing even. With Phelps when he returned in 2014. Phelps was no longer the same guy who could practice with no breaks and no other responsibility so Bob bad to adjust as well and no he’s rocking the biggest group of swimming talent in the world and has ASU collegiate team trending way up even outside of Leon. Regan Smith has absolutely unlocked herself with Bob and I can see Simone finding her way again there as well.
He’s still a bit in that mindset a bit because he said he was disappointed with how Marchand approached his 4 IM at French trials. But I do agree bowman has changed and also adapted to how he’s done things too.
