Mike's frustration is all Dodge Chrysler Jeep owners feelings, he is 100% right, however in my case my external relay was installed in 2014 at 23,000 miles, it just failed me on 10.29.20 all of a sudden. I watched this video and went 1 step further , believe it or not my case was the 20A fuse was blown and you couldn't see it until I tested the fuse and noticed no reading on my meter period..CHECK THE FUSE, once I changed the fuse 2 things happened my Dodge RT 2013 started immediately and for some reason the throttle response improved drastically. I went to the dealer and still bought the Fuel Pump Relay recall kit Chrysler shamelessly sells to you for $60 to $80 because I don't want to hear if something goes wrong I didn't use OEM. Each time I go to the dealer the more truth comes out about Chrysler Vehicles, this issue is over a decade old and they have no fix according to the service center I went to . Even changing the TIPM according to them doesn't always fix the issue. Shame, I really like the Jeeps and Dodge Durango's and with all the money they charge for this vehicle, yet we can get a satellite to work from millions of miles away , buy American, Right with more and more caution, thank God for the Average Mike's and those like him. This has to stop.
Years ago I daily drove a 70 Charger while living in Brooklyn. I upgraded the ignition to Chrysler's electronic ignition. I always had to carry a spare orange box in the car, cause that damn thing would just go when i was driving without warning. Now we have a 2013 Durango, and it looks like this time I have to carry a spare relay with me.

thank you so much for this video. it was 119 in phx this week and my 2005 jeep grand cherokee wouldnt start. i could hear the fuel pump prime when i started engine (thx to chris fix video) and my next step was to check the fuses. i saw your video about the relay, but it was your words that said "if they get hot they might not work" and so i ran outside now that its night time, and sure enough my vehicle fired right up. this afternoon in the heat it was starting but dying. had to be the heat.

Hey, thanks Mike! I have a 2011 Grand Cherokee. I went with the $99 version with the relay bypass from Vertical Visions. I'll comment again when the relay arrives this week.
@@hdz3943 It was extremely easy to install and seems to be working fine. It really saved me. I was having heart failure looking at the $1000 price tag on a new TIPM. Alternatively, I found a place that would rebuild it for $250 but then I would have to ship the entire unit but I was able to install this myself in about 10 minutes. New to the Durango scene I just bought a 2019 Durango a month ago and I’m having this same problem I smacked the fuse box and it started up didn’t have problem for a couple of weeks and now it’s acting up again do you think the 2019 has the built in relay also?
Experiencing the same thing in my 2014 durango. Thought my fuel pump went out until I was messing with the fuel pump fuse and it started. Now its doing the same, turning and no start.
@shanarolkosky2951 try smacking the TIPM box and then start it. The relay is probably getting corroded, and smacking the TIPM box helped get me out of being stranded. Eventually you'll need to do a replacement on that fuel pump relay.
Did you have any OBD codes with it? My 2013 Durango cranks but doesn't start like it doesn't get any fuel. I have an external relay installed. And P0129, P0652, P2127 check engine codes.
I am having a similar issue with a 2016 jeep grand Cherokee It is in the shop but the dealer is telling me 10-20 days I cannot be without my car for that long.
Great video withe great explanation. I see you mentioned the vehicle years of 2011 to 2013. Will the fuel pump relay be in the same area on a 2015? My car is having the same issue and i can't seem to figure out where the relay is and it doesnt have that wire which shows a recalled replacement was done. I have put the VIN in the NHTSA webpage but it doesnt show any recall for my vehicle. Any idea or help will be greatly appreciated.
This is also a problem for the 2013 Jeep Wrangler but it is not covered under the recall so it cost me 1100.00 dollars!!! I had to show your video to the mechanic at the DODGE HOUSE because they could not diagnose what was wrong and because of you they were able to fix my JK!!! Dodge would not do ANYTHING!!! They know this shit!!!!!!!!!!!

My 2010 Challenger did it and the fuel pumps were changed. 1400$ then it stranded me and mom. It cooled down wouldn't start. Towed back to shop. He found it. Ordered a kit. And hopefully I can trust my car again. It's been over 10 years so dodge won't pay for it. Crazy
Have you had any more issues since replacing that relay? We had this recall fixed 3 years ago when we first bought our Jeep. About a year & a half in it started stalling out randomly. We replaced the battery last year. For the past 3 months or so it’s been doing it more frequently & now won’t even start. We haven’t been able to get it to turn over in a week.
Caleb Izdepski it did not. After replacing it, our Jeep turned over for the first time but stalled out & died right away. We ended up getting our fuel pump replaced & that fixed it. Apparently the fuel tank is a saddle with 2 fuel filters & one needed replaced. However, it wasn’t throwing a code for that even though that’s what it needed.
I have dealt with that fuel pump relay even way back as far as 2007 not just 2011 it's all major issue with it and the teacher to bypass it can release to spend $1,000 on a fuse box

So I had the same issue, replaced the Fuel Pump Relay and I was up and running again. However I only lasted about 3 weeks like this, and its doing it again. Im tapping on the Fuel Pump relay like you mentioned, and I also let it cool down for a bit and it works. Would it be the fuel pump relay again? How long is the fix supposed to last? Does a fault fuel pump relay turn on your engine light?? Dealer said no!!! They want to charge me $130 to hook up to see what the problem is meanwhile I have a recall notice.
It does not turn on the CEL. I would be furious if you are having the same symptoms. Using this video and other out there you could probably prove to them that it is in fact the recall
So, I had an issue with the transfer case module on my 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee recently and got it repaired at a local independent shop. They found an issue with a fan which wasn't sending a signal that it was off. It is due to the TIPM, I was told. A few years ago, my car used to start and then shutoff right away. If you went to try to start it again, it would just crank. I then would have to shut off the car, open then door, close the door and it then would start just fine! I am guessing I had a TIPM issue for years! Thanks for the video!

Then a yr ago it gives hard starts all the time U have to turn half way wait for fuel to rise then start. Now for last two weeks it shuts off just like he said. Chrylseor issued a recall.on the recall nov 22 2019. They have no fix till jan 2020. I therefore cant drive my jeep
If you are smart enough to point out a double negative, than you should be smart enough to know what I meant. Two negatives in a sentence cancel each other out. Therefore, “This will be here if the recall was done.”

Had the recall done about 4yrs ago with the symptom being the starter cranking but no fuel in the pump. Fast fwd and the car is now stalling while driving from same issue and Dodge dealer tells us there's 185ppl waiting list for this part and they can only order 1 a week. So basically wait 3-4yrs for the part to become available. Meanwhile putting the family at risk. First and last Dodge I'll ever own. Such a pile of shit product and their go fuck yourself attitude towards customers is unreal. I'll be fixing with this method and dumping this Durango ASAP. Thanks for the video.

It all depends on your skill level and the codes it is reading. If you think you can tackle it then go for it!
Recently bought a 2012 JGC . Had crank, no start situation. Switched two relays, no more issues.

It does not. Just causes the fuel pump not to run which would always be a crank but no start condition.

Try the ASD relay it causes those problems. If your recall has been done it’s probably the ASD relay

VI Massive same here 2011 Jeep I towed the shit to the dealer and told me nothing can be done

I have a 2013 Chrysler Town and Country, and I called and they said my vehicle didn’t have any recalls, yet my vehicle has this same problem
